        The Derangers were a group of super-human patients/prisoners of Lionel Jeffries at his New Life Clinic. During Alpha Flight's last encounter with Jeffries these beings escaped. Later they were somehow captured and placed under mental control by the being known as Bedlam. Under Bedlam's control they fought Alpha Flight, and all except Dean and Goblyn were killed.

The Derangers included:

• Breakdown, a housewife suffering from a mental breakdown who gained the ability to explode her body and reform it;


• Freakout, a drug-abusing former heavy metal rock musician who ended up burning out the pain centers of his brain and was a berserker;


• Janus, an artist who gained the ability to split into two duplicates of himself.
