Another beautiful day. We drove for an hour to Corvara and stopped at a bakery for supplies and then drove a bit further up Gardenia Pass which
brought us to a huge parking area where our route started. About ten minutes of easy hiking brought us to the first section of ferrata. Lots of
stemple ladders and easy climbing took us up this section. The low grade was a blessing as this rock was very wet and slippery. Without too long
we topped out on this and then hiked for about a kilometer to reach the next section.
Lots of stemples on the first section.
This was fun climbing. Excellent holds borught us up the steep sections which were intermixed with some fun scrambling, all of it very well
protected. The route also became very busy and we stopped more than once to let faster parties pass us. A few ladders and a bridge made the climb
memorable near the top. A short hike brought us up to a hut that smelled like sewage, and then we climbed a little higher to reach the descent
route.
Bridge near the top.
Top of the ferrata.
Approaching hut stink-ore.
Down was steep and full of loose shite down a long gully. Fortunately a bunch of it was cable protected, and the clip in was appreciated on some of
the steeper sections. A guided group followed close behind, but did not pass. The angle slackenned a little bit for the last few hundred meters, but
a million switchbacks made the descent seem to take forever. Finally we reached the bottom and went back to Corvara to find coffee and food. This
was the crux of the day as nearly everything was closed for the season. Finally we found a place that was open and paid way too much money for a
refreshment.
Descent route.
Cool wooden bicycle in Corvara.
Total time: 5.5 hours
