Hundred Mile Landing

Mark of Eddyline picked us up at our hotel after breakfast. Another group of five were already loaded in the van and it was not one minute before both Debbie and Sue were re-united with some old friends. This other group was heading up to paddle the Big Salmon river over the next ten or so days and sharing the ride with us up to Johnson's Crossing. Arriving at the launch point, we found a plastic box marked with "For the Ottawa Canoe Club" sitting on the ground. Inside we found enough freshly baked muffins to feed the entire van load, courtesy of another one of Sue's local friends. Since it was now lunch time, this tasty snack was appreciated by all! After unloading the van of our gear and saying goodbye to the other crew we were finally by oursleves and made ready to head on our way.

This part of the Teslin River is very wide with little current. As there was no wind it made for a lovely paddle across mirrored surfaces. At one narrower section of the river we spent a bit of time ferrying and pulling eddy turns into the shoreline, skills that would be needed later on once we hit faster currents. After about six hours of river travel covering about forty kilometers, we arrived at Hundred Mile Landing, our goal for today. It was very hot and sunny so we did not light a fire. Cooked up a quick supper on the stoves instead before retiring to the shade in the bug tent to relax.
