A cold but beautiful morning awaited as I watched the sun rise with a coffee. Once everyone was up and fed we hit the
water which was much swifter today. The scenery was also much more spectacular. Large cut banks of sand awaited
around the many oxbow curves in the river. Swaths of forests which had burned in previous years were springing
up new life. Looking up we saw several bald eagles riding the wind currents or swooping down to land at high points
in the trees.

Forest renewal

The paddling was fairly easy, however it got very windy which slowed us down despite the current. As the day wore on
people started to get a little tired. More than one
fell asleep at the paddle and required a bit of nudge from their partner to keep up the pace. After several
breaks, sixty kilometers of travel, and a little over eight hours on the river we arrived at Dog Salmon Slough, where
an excellent sandy beach welcomed us into the camp site. This was right on the edge of another forest fire burn,
however the campsite itself was spared.
Beach camp

We had time to relax tonight with supper cooked over the fire, and drinks shared around as Duncan sang and strummed
tunes on the guitar.
