ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

August 29, 1986

Nancy is fairly subdued, for Nancy. She and Greg or at the Northwoods Inn for dinner. She referred to this as their last date. He seemed surprised.

Reginald: Peter has been an absolute TURTLE * through this whole thing. Gomez pointed out that he had been dealing with complicated legal stuff. Reginald seems to despise him rather. He's in quite a stew; he generally is. I mean to call him That Old Carrot henceforth. Marley thrills him.

It's pouring rain all over Jake and Marley. (I am not going to write down any of the Extremely Obscene things Jake said, because I want no truck with obscenity. I don't think I wrote down Donna's obscene remarks about the Lesoleil Tower either, but they are fresh in my mind even after 359 days.) When they emerged from their passionate embrace Jake said he didn't know why they'd ever stopped embracing passionately. He did say it was probably a Good Thing, because now they can see how much they mean to each other. She blames herself. He hushed her. She said she should have trusted him.

Nancy asked if this weren't The End. Greg laughed. Nancy's friend Julie appeared as a waitress. She loves working for Felicia. Samantha rushed up and said her date could win a national competition for most boring date at a walk. He's gorgeous, but he has no brains. Even that could be tolerated if he could dance. He can't. Nancy and Greg made sympathetic noises. She borrowed Greg for a dance.

Marissa can't understand why the magazine is so mean to Reginald. She loves him terribly.

Adam and MJ invited Reginald to come downtown for questioning. He's been re restrained. That Old Carrot objected but they insisted. He made threats.

Samantha rendered unto Nancy the man which are Nancy's. Nancy: you must miss Jake a lot. Sam: TELL me about it. I have been SO depressed ever since he ran off with Marley. Nancy was thrilled to hear they were together. Sam got upset and said she'd leave him [Greg] with Nancy to celebrate his decision to stay at Bay State. It was a surprise.

Adam got That Old Carrot down to the station. Peter turtled in. ("You're not exactly the cavalry, but you'll do.") Peter was upset. Adam and MJ want to interrogate the Carrot about stuff stolen from Tanquir. Enter Michael and a lieutenant. The Carrot and Peter said heads would roll. Adam asked MJ to escort Messrs Love and Love (he said it ever so nice, did Adam) to the interrogation room. Exeunt omnes except Adam and Michael. They can't think why a cool calm collected Carrot should suddenly be so agitated. Michael's worried about Marley because there has been a hurricane warning.

Marley was profoundly suspicious when Jake told her to open her mouth and close her eyes and accordingly talked through her teeth. He produced caviar. She ate some. He refused. With missionary zeal she attempted to convert him. He said he didn't like anything about it. (He doesn't like the way it sits on a cracker.) She got him to eat some but he did not reform. He likes her. The storm is raging about them. (Brings back memories, don't it. No bracken, though.) They enjoy being together. The lights went out.

Greg was admitted to Bay State last spring as a backup. He told Nancy he'd decided to stay because he didn't want to leave her. She panicked and gave her very best impression of Janet Dailey in Boston. He said he loved her.

Peter looked at the new restraining order and said he'd have it lifted in a couple of hours. That Old Carrot said he'd have it lifted in half an hour. Peter tried to explain the concept of being a lawyer and doing things legally but he clammed up when the Carrot told him the law was a joke. Adam wandered in. Peter wandered out. Adam produced some receipts. The Carrot told him he wanted to see Michael.

Jake and Marley lit candles. Jake: did you think about me all the time when you were gone.? Marley: no. Jake: what do you mean, no? Marley: I mean no. Jake: what kind of an answer is that? NO. Marley: its the TRUTH. Why would I think about YOU ALL THE TIME? Jake: you're kidding, right? Marley: I can't BELIEVE you. What an ego. I tell you I didn't think about you every single second of every single day and you tell me I've got to be kidding. Jake: OK. What WERE you thinking about? Marley: Jake McKinnon, did it ever occur to you that I might have done SOME dating? Jake: NO. Marley: NO. You mean, it's OKAY for you to date Samantha Houston, but it's not okay for me to go out on a couple of dates? Jake: she didn't mean ANYTHING to me. Marley: I know; That's what they all say. Jake: she DIDN'T. Marley: okay, so she didn't. You still went out with her and I still went out with some guys. Jake: WHO? Marley: guys. Jake: GUYS? that doesn't mean anything to me. Give me some names. Marley: Jake, they're from other cities. I'm sure you don't know them unless you happen to know every single guy in every single city in the United States. (PAUSE) Jake: how many guys did you go out with? She described the guy with the last word in faces, bodies, and summa cum laudes. You name it, he had it. He accused her of making it up. Marley: Jake, you'll just have to get used to the fact that I've become accustomed to playing the field. He tickled an admission that he was the only man she'd ever loved out of her.

Michael phoned Marley's nearest Sheriff and asked if she'd been evacuated. The line went dead.

Jake told Marley he loved her so much. The bracken began creeping up to the door. They realised it was better than a storm. The road is flooded.

MJ reassured Michael. He refused to be reassured and succeeded in alarming her.

The Carrot dismissed the receipts. Adam asked where the gold was. The Carrot looked bored. Peter trotted in with the restraining order lifted and one against the police. The Carrot demanded an apology from Adam. Adam apologised and went to get the captain. Samuels told Reginald once Adam returned he could go.

Marissa landed. She intends to go to the police station to find out why the big bad policemen are persecuting a Carrot.

Greg asked if Nancy were surprised he loved her. She was. She said it was too much and she wasn't anything special. "I'm not the kind of woman a guy can't live without. I'm not the kind of woman a guy can dream about." He assured her he dreamed about her and loved her knowing her for what she is.

Adam has decided that it's not gold since Reginald relaxes when he mentions it.

That Old Carrot prepared to leave. He told Peter he'd be in touch and dismissed him.

Adam stalled getting the captain to sign.

Jake diagnosed a hurricane. He said that they would make a great movie. (Jake is obsessed with movies.) Somehow they got onto the subject of Singin' in the Rain. He sang and sproinged; she sang and moved her arms. She laughed at him for not being Gene Kelly.

Greg and Nancy breathed heavily all over each other. He warned her he'd be busy during the term. She said she was glad he was staying. He was relieved. He told her again he loved her. She welcomed him to Bay City. Kissing.

MJ waited with the Carrot. Michael came in and chatted about the storm (out of Reginald's hearing, natch.) MJ assured him Jake was a moderately intelligent human being and would be bound to do something sensible if he knew it was a hurricane. Mary burst in and flung herself into the Carrot's arms. She asked what the nonsense about Reginald Love was.

Michael's Key West house is very, very wet. Marley said she was scared. She told Jake she loved him. He said she'd feel much better when the candles and lanterns were lit. A beam creaked; Marley screamed. Jake was laid low.

* Ogden Nash:

The turtle lives 'twixt plated decks
which practically conceal its sex
I think it clever of the turtle
in such a fix to be so fertile

Jake is so like Catlin.

Theory: the man with the perfectly foul moustache who was married to Brittany was not Josh but Reginald. HER NAME IS BRITTANY REYNOLDS (same as Reginald) PETERSON (Reginald has a son Peter) LOVE. I find this significant. They must be in cahoots. Another sinister link: when she met Brittany, Adrienne said she knew A DEAF PERSON NAMED MARY ONCE.
