Catlin is upset with himself for having let Sally drive home alone. He went upstairs to reassure Kevin about the service. Brittany rang the bell and asked for Catlin.
Nancy is miserable about ruining Marley's life. Jake stomped in seeking vengeance.
Kathleen insisted on going on Felicia's show.
Cecile told her subjects to look in the least obvious places.
Cass: howl gargle gargle — Strange Man: war is hell, buddy. Cass: how gargle gargle — ow. Will you get me out of here? Man: you will address me as SIR. Cass: all right, all right. Listen, sir, do you have a boat? I desperately need to get back to the mainland. Man: you will get there, SOMEDAY. We're going on through enemy lines. Cass: that's fine. Who is the enemy? Man: who isn't? Cass: yeah. That's a tough one, all right. Listen, does your radio work? Man: why? Cass: I need to reach somebody. Man: I can't TRANSMIT. It's too much of a chance my signal would be intercepted. Cass: by whom? Man: the INSURGENTS. Cass: who's insurging? Man: these days? EVERYBODY. Cass: oh. True. But I'll send the most innocuous message. Man: Mary had a little lamb, the daffodils are in bloom? What do you take me for, boy, a fool? I know all the codes. Cass: OK, listen. Let me try to explain what's happening here. I'm stranded on this island here and the woman that I love — A wonderful, wonderful woman — doesn't know where I am. She must be worried sick. Now if I could just use your radio and talk to her, just for a couple of minutes I could put her mind at rest. Man: negative. Cass: SIR. Have you ever been in love? Man: a MISSION. In order to be successful it DEMANDS sacrifice. No time for women. On your feet. You're going to WAR.
Rachel told Brittany she didn't think it was a good idea for her to let her in but she did tell Catlin she had come by. Liz appeared and informed Brittany [who attempted to masquerade as a sympathetic person] that she was neither wanted nor needed. She told her Sally had died with a heavy heart because of her nastiness at Rachel's and she'd made the last year of Sally's life miserable. Liz got upset and told her she couldn't have Catlin. Brittany was extremely obnoxious [she tried to give the impression of understanding and forgiving unreasonable hysterical fits] and Rachel steered her out. Catlin came bounding down the stairs when he heard Liz carrying on. He comforted her.
Donna tried to comfort Victoria. She advised her not to lose Marley. Vic said she was going out to find her. Donna asked if she weren't going out to find Jake.
Jake feels [not unreasonably] that his own life has been ruined a little too. He blamed Nancy. They prevented him tearing her limb from limb and she told him he'd ruined his own life. He accused her of wanting everyone to feel miserable because Chris had dumped her. She said she hadn't been able to stand knowing Jake and Victoria were hurting Marley because she loved her. SO DO I said Jake with extraordinary vehemence. Nancy called him a liar and produced the letter. He inspected it. Dee told him about Vic's wandering underwear. Nancy chimed in about the alley. Jake told her it was a setup and said nothing of Victoria's had been in his box when he unpacked and if he and Victoria were out of breath when they emerged from the alley it was because he'd been protecting her from Neal. Nancy was rocked. Jake said he had to find Marley and explain.
Kathleen told anyone with information to contact the Bay City Police Department. Now everyone has to go to Sally's funeral. Kathleen broke down.
Cecile was not delighted with the prospect of a visit from nutso Lyndon Lockhart who believes there's a war on until she saw he had taken a prisoner in the form of Cass. He explained Cass had been found naked trying to steal the Redmans' speedboat. Cass tried to explain the situation to Lyndon with graphic descriptions of his wedding but Cecile said firmly he was her royal surveyor and sent him with Gloria to be dressed. She told Lyndon he was rather unstable and confused and she would have him shipped back to the mainland for treatment. Lyndon said he was glad not to have to worry about some lunatic running around on the island. Cecile was not thrilled to hear that in the throes of interrogation Cass had kept saying the name of the girl he loved — KATHLEEN.
Larry said the investigation into Sally's death was closed. It looks like an accident to everyone except Catlin. Wallingford rushed back from Detroit for the funeral and was able to assure Kathleen that the syndicate denied having stolen Cass. Catlin told Kevin Sally had provided him with many wonderful things but he was the best one.
Victoria went to Marley's apartment and found a note for Jake saying Marley was moving away for a while so he could sort himself out. She requested that he not try to find her, saying she'd probably see him in a year or two and not to be angry with himself or her. When Jake burst in Victoria hid the letter. He threatened bloodshed. She told him Marley would be back soon and suggested he wait. He wouldn't let her leave. He told her she'd tell Marley she'd written the letter. She denied everything and said Nancy was spiteful because of Chris. She said she loved him but she hadn't written the letter and all she wanted was for him to believe her. He said all he wanted was Marley and walked out.
Cecile told Cass he would be chained to her side from now on. He said he would not eat, sleep with her, or talk any more.
The minister said nice things about Sally. Jake crept into the back row. Rachel read a poem. "i carry your heart with me" etc*. Mac's spoke about loving Sally. Catlin talked to himself about loving Sally. Mac asked him to come to Mary's Place with everyone. He refused. Liz and Kevin went. Catlin wept next to Sally's coffin. He spoke of his horrible regrets. It's his fault they didn't have enough time together and he can't forgive himself. He broke down and said he'd get the person who had hurt her.
Jake yelled at Dee and Nancy some more because Marley hadn't been at the funeral. He said Victoria had been running this show and it was going to stop.
Victoria thought about the terrible things Marley had said to her. Donna tried to comfort her. Vic said Marley would never speak to her again. Donna told her she would. Vic asked her to tell her what she thought of her. Donna said she loved her. Vic refused to believe her and rushed out. Enter Brittany. Donna said she wouldn't rest until she found out what had happened to poor Sally. Brittany started to go out again. Donna said she hoped she wasn't going to see Catlin.
Cecile tricked Cass into speaking by saying she'd let him call Kathleen. This was a bluff.
Everyone sat around being sad at Mary's Place. Nancy's still not certain Jake didn't sleep with Victoria. Liz and Kevin are worried about [Catlin].
Catlin alone in the cabin thought about Sally in the shower, Sally in a red sweater, Sally in various other attitudes. Almost Paradise. He imagined he heard her say his name but it was only Brittany.
Cecile brought Cass strawberries and whipped cream. He refused to open his mouth. She brushed whipped cream on his mouth and said she'd have to clean it up for him.
MJ told Kathleen someone had called in response to her television plea. They rushed to the station. Jake suddenly figured out where Marley could be. Liz told Rachel Britt was a hypocrite. She had practically wished Sally dead at Rachel's.
Brittany offered Catlin comfort [managing to relate Sally's death to her own in terms of the horrible grief he must be suffering] and help. She asked him to trust her. He wept on her shoulder. Donna looked through the window.
