MJ summoned Chad to help with the code. He assured her the snake and apple symbol would lead her straight to the killer.
Mother carried on. Mary dropped by. Dr Glaser collected himself.
Michael freaked out. Jamie asked him and Donna to leave the room. Adam appeared in the corridor and they discussed the blindness. Donna assured Michael it was probably only temporary. Adam said John could be the only one who could identify the killer. [He wasn't blind when he saw him. Surely he could say "it was a white haired gentleman." It would at least be a clue.]
Jamie was forced to admit to John he had a 50/50 chance of regaining his sight. Ho ho. Zurich time.
Michael fretted. Jamie came out and hedged. He mentioned a potentially fatal haematoma and potentially fatal surgery. Adam begged to be allowed to talk to John. Jamie said he didn't want John excited before surgery, but Michael took Adam's side and won him over.
Mary talked to Dr Glaser about working with children or the homeless. He was a little out of it but he rooted around for brochures. He said he could call a woman he knew at a shelter to help her. She asked if she could use his phone to call her daughter because it was getting dark and there was the stalker. Dr Glaser agreed.
MJ and Chad agonized. Mary phoned and asked for a ride. Mother told Dr Glaser not to let her stop him. MJ said she'd be over in 15 minutes. Dr Glaser allowed Mary to wait. She chatted about John and said she thought the killer was botching his attempts on purpose to be caught.
John was vague about the killer. He never saw his hair. Adam was nice and left. He wandered out into the hall and asked Michael for his permission to set a trap. He proposed luring Dr. Glaser down by broadcasting that John had seen him and would expose him as soon as sufficiently conscious. Michael and Donna put their foot down. Adam said it was John's decision. They went into the room. Adam promised to make it as safe as possible. Michael put in his two cents.
Mary psychologized about the killer. Mother advised Dr. Glaser to kill her. Dr Glaser tried to ignore her but she was persistent. She pointed out how wicked Mary was. MJ arrived opportunely. She caught sight of an incriminating snake and apple paperweight and recklessly gave her car to Mary and sent her on alone. The hospital is across the street. Exit Mary. Dr Glaser was not thrilled.
Vince was uncivil to Chad. He asked why he was hanging around. Chad said it was a free country. Vince said he couldn't get his kind of action around there. Chad informed him he wasn't Dr Glaser and MJ believed that. Vince asked what was going on with him and MJ. Chad said nothing was going on. Voices rose. Chad stomped out. Enter married. Vince asked Mary if she had wondered how close Chad and MJ had been. Mary said if it was their business MJ would have told them. Enter Diane, bearing her memorable devil's food cake. Vince nearly hyperventilated. He introduced her [Diane Flannery] to Mary. Conversation flagged.
The snake and apple thing belonged to mother Glaser. MJ brought up Linda Lee. Dr Glaser admitted to having seen her regularly. MJ said the entry always appeared with the notation for money taken in, and the snake symbol was the last one in the book. [How so? What about blue boy?]
John insisted on helping for Donna's sake. He said he wanted to see Donna again. Michael said he would. They left John alone. Donna crept in. John kidded around. She wept with gratitude and sympathy. [Be VINDICTIVE, already.] She seemed to think he was too cavalier about everything. Enter Jamie. He suggested surgery immediately. John said it was ironical: "Vietnam didn't kill me, but Bay City probably will."
Vince has been afflicted with Mr. Jolly syndrome. These are not complete sentences I'm hearing. Eventually he was able to explain he and Diane had known each other a long time and had gone out. Mary seemed a little jealous. Vince drooled over the cake. Diane refused to partake. Mary insisted she stay. Diane was very noble and generous. She insisted on leaving. Mary told Vince Diane was very attractive. Vince reminisced about cakes past. Mary was too sweet.
Dr Glaser said he had been Linda's therapist. MJ asked if he had receipts. He said he'd talk to his accountant. He refused to violate the doctor/patient relationship. MJ seemed apologetic. She told him John would identify the killer and left. Mother told Dr Glaser to kill John. [Nary a peep about MJ. I can't think why he doesn't brood about her probable relationship with Adam, at the very least.]
Mary told Vince there was no reason for him not to see Diane or anyone else. He moaned about the Revenue. It wouldn't like him to date. She said she thought they should play the field. Diane wandered through to be remarkably resigned again, since she wouldn't be seeing Vince any more. Mary asked why.
MJ reported to Chad about the therapy. She thinks Glaser's a dead end. [Why doesn't she suspect him? The symbol to which she had pinned all her hopes fits. The medical background fits. The civilian with heavy duty police clearance fits. Honey, where are your BRAINS? Or don't they work if it's not clowns?] Chad promised they'd track the killer down together and said they had to destroy the book. She promised to look through it once more and burn it. She hopes she might find evidence to save someone's life. He said the book could ruin their lives.
Dr Glaser arrived at the hospital. Donna asked him to talk to John about the surgery. Donna said she'd take him in and introduce him.
Diane admitted she cared about Vince but he'd never stopped loving Mary. Now it's time to give up hope.
Dr Glaser told Donna she was too upset and it would be better for him to go in alone. In he went. Mother advised him to kill quickly and then pretend to have found the body. He hesitated. John asked "who are you? What do you want?"
