ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

July 25, 1985

Marley told Victoria a friend of hers was hardly speaking to her and she knew why. Victoria said she didn't. Marley said if she were going to stay they'd have to get a few things straight.

Chris stumbled across Nancy in the Cory living room. She's in a wonderful mood. He's concerned about her depression. She suggested they have a drink, get acquainted. "So what do you say, doc? What's your pleasure?"

Catlin called Sally. He's concerned about her. She's dissolved and worried about him. To reassure he said he'd dash over for a few minutes. She was pleased. He bounded to the door and was met by Tommy Lee. He adopted about the same attitude he had with Jimmy. He doesn't like cooling his heels in a motel room when he could be guarding the lab. (If you ask me this is further evidence of not wanting to stay in a hotel. I can't explain Ireland but everything else fits . . . oh, I get it. It must be hotel rooms without Sally he objects to.) Tommy Lee wants to get acquainted (let's go to Nancy's and have a party). Catlin wants to go out and have a good time. Alone. Tommy Lee is hell-bent on taking him to the Plains Motel or he'll tell the Man the gun is trouble. And Catlin wouldn't like that now.

Chris wants to talk. Nancy's silly and squealy. He might be a little suspicious. He asked about her mood swings. "Nancy, are you --" He decided to save his question for another time. She said she'd forgotten to do something in the stables the other day. She kissed him enthusiastically (a side effect).

Marley told Victoria she'd made Nancy upset. Victoria said that wasn't her intention. They quarreled. Marley doesn't understand. Victoria swore she'd show them and fled. Marley was distraught. Bridget was disturbed.

Sally lit anything she could get her hands on lying about the cabin in preparation for Catlin's visit. Someone came a-rapping at her door and proved (disappointingly) to be Aunt Liz. Liz is determined to talk about what she'd heard about Sally's having received a job offer from Washington. Sally didn't want to talk and she set about removing preparatory bottles of wine (when gathered from various caches about the room they numbered three). Aunt Liz: Sally dear, have you been drinking? Sally: Oh, AUNT LIZ. Liz: Oh, thank heavens. She persisted in telling her she should stay at Cory and not move to Washington or commute and upset Catlin and Kevin. Sally lost patience eventually and raised her voice. (She had the door opened pointedly for quite a while.) Liz: How can a marriage survive? Sally: Our marriage is going just fine, thank you. Would you leave, please? Liz: I wouldn't be too sure of that if I were you.

Tommy Lee offered Catlin Polo as a little extra muscle and a beer. (They're in his office at the Plains Motel.) Catlin: Nothing for me. I'm not staying. Tommy Lee: What makes you think so? Catlin: Because I have someplace else to go. Tommy Lee: You know we keep having this miscommunication, Roy. I thought I made myself clear at the hotel. I pay the freight, I tell you where to go and when. Catlin: I understand that you want to make sure I have a good time until whatever has to happen happens. But you see there are a few things tonight that you can't help me with in the having a good time department. If you know what I mean. Tommy Lee: well, maybe I do and maybe I don't. Suppose you tell me. Catlin: Well I was thinking about taking in some of Bay City's natural beauty. Tommy Lee: Well in that case waterside's very pretty this time of night. Catlin: Forget the docks. Rolling hills are more my speed. Tommy Lee: Well why didn't you say so in the first place? Catlin: I'm SHY. Tommy Lee: Well one thing that you've got to learn about me is that I mean what I say. Like about taking care of my people. Any time you need a little squeeze all you have to do is let me know. Enter Brittany (I saw this coming). Speaking of which here's a particularly nice specimen now.

Jake arrived at the Loves'. His car (the Blue Bomber) is on its last legs. (Someone should explain to him as Catlin did to Sally that cars are devoid of legs.) Marley told him Victoria was upset. She told him Victoria's Perry story and that Nancy had been told. She told him about the stomped-on locket. Marley's concerned about her. She's gone off in the car.

Victoria's driving, determined to show them. Sirens.

Chris pried Nancy loose verging on disgust. She was annoyed. She yelled at him. He wants to talk. She got upset and yelled at him. "You know just leave me alone. You're a weird guy," and stormed off as Ada came in. She demanded an explanation.

Tommy Lee: Very good, sweetheart. Why don't you come over here? That's right, come over here. See that, Roy? She's like a trained puppy. She does anything you ask her to. Isn't that right? Say yes. See that? What do you think, Roy? My quiet little piece of sweetness. Wouldn't you like to get your hands on some of this? Perfect. Everything a man could ask for. Face, a body like this one and NO LIP. Perfect. No, on second thought I think I'll keep you for myself. (He kissed her and I think she pulled away slightly.) you like to play rough, is that right? (Catlin intervened.) It's your move, Roy. Catlin: Is that the way you treat your people? Tommy Lee: What if it is? Catlin: Get another gun. Tommy Lee: Wwwait a minute. Catlin: Get your hand off me. Tommy Lee: Why are you so uptight? Come on, we can talk, she can't hear anything. How long's it been for you anyway? You've got the hots for her, don't you? Say something, Roy, before I start taking this personally. Catlin: I just don't like seeing people taken advantage of like that. Tommy Lee: Oh, I get it, you're still SHY. Well, seeing as how you're my guest and you're only in town for a short while, I GIVE her to you as a goodwill gesture. But I'm warning you she likes it rough. Do you think you can handle her? Catlin: She's too STUPID to know what's good for her. Tommy Lee: So take her back to the motel, smarten her up. Maybe it'll do you both some good. Catlin: I'm sick of this. Tommy Lee: If you're thinking of leaving town I wouldn't head back to Chicago. Catlin: I'm going to find me a woman of my own. Exit Catlin. Tommy Lee: A guy like that needs all the help he can get. (Like what? Creepy? Deadly? Shy? Large?) Maybe we should make a surprise party for him. What do you think, sweetheart, are you game for that? She smiled sweetly (and diabolically in my opinion) in agreement.

Victoria was pulled over by a policeman who took her for Marley, a friend of his daughter's. Victoria played up obediently and got off without a ticket just a warning.

Jake told Marley if she wanted to talk he hoped she'd talk to him. Bridget came in and hung about until he left successfully preventing any goodnight kisses. Marley's worried about Victoria. She asked Bridget if she'd seen Victoria in the stables when Perry fell. She can't imagine why Victoria thought it was so important to tell them all even Nancy. Bridget hit upon the happy theory that having led an unhappy life with deceitful and unkind people up until now Victoria suspected ulterior motives in the Loves' niceness. Marley wants to help her so she decided she had to find out everything about her.

Ada told Chris Nancy was in a very delicate state and she wouldn't have her upset. He tried to tell her Nancy might be in serious trouble somehow but she kept interrupting furiously to place the blame on him. He gave up.

Jake found Victoria in Smiley's. He's sick of pretending. He doesn't want to stay in Bay City any more. She told him about the encounter with the police. She's thrilled with the respect and attention she gets here. He cast up the locket to her. She's mad because he gave one to Marley too. He pointed out he couldn't very well give here a better present if he didn't know her. She said they'd get everything they wanted soon if they waited. He doesn't want to. She placed a hand on his knee and suggested they go upstairs. They left.

Sally has a meeting Friday night about the job. Aunt Liz railed at her about not taking it. Sally opened the door again and Liz produced her trump card for staying in Bay City -- it wouldn't be wise to leave Brittany Peterson alone with Catlin. Who knows what she's up to? Sudden cracking of the underbrush which I take to be Catlin. Liz asked what it was and Sally told her raccoons. Liz closed the door and refused to leave with raccoons out there.

Nancy in a calmer mood apologized to Chris for Ada and expressed a desire for him not to move out. She was pleased he didn't intend to leave. She apologized for the attack. All is forgiven.

Victoria and Jake in bed. She doesn't want him to leave Bay City and she's determined to stay. She thinks he finds Marley too much of a temptation. She goes so far as to suspect him of deeming them the same person.

Sally opened the door again (is Catlin lurking in the underbrush hanging on every word?) Liz: Why do you have the door open? Sally: Because you're about to leave? Liz: I don't want to leave HERE if there are raccoons out THERE. Sally: All right then wait. You know they come out in platoons later at night. Liz: very funny but you can't run away from your problems. Sally: I am not running away from ANYTHING. I'm walking into everything with my eyes open. Liz: Brittany Peterson is just waiting to make her move. Sally: why are you so worried about my marriage? Liz: Because you don't worry enough. Sally: You're very sweet. Goodnight. Leave. Exit Liz. Liz: I wonder where those raccoons are. Sally: They're hiding in the BUSHES. Liz: Very funny. Sally: You know I hear they can CLAW THEIR WAY THROUGH STEEL. Liz: GOOD NIGHT. Sally: Thanks for leaving, Aunt Liz. She found a rose with a bit of paper at her feet. The note said he missed her. She says their marriage is doing just fine.

Catlin returned to his room to hear the shower going. He levelled his gun at the bathroom door in time to see towel-clad Brittany emerge. "Hi, Catlin," she said, grinning as is her custom.
