ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

May 23, 1985

Sally and Catlin breakfasted at Smiley's, surprisingly not depressed despite Perry Catlin's dear friend and upon occasion co-conspirator. Maisie offered them more coffee; Catlin said he must needs be gone, but Sally said in an almost confidential aside to Maisie [marred only by the fact that Catlin could hear it too] that she was meeting another man there as soon as she unloaded this one and she'd have half a cup. It turned out to be Kevin so EVERYBODY'S HAPPY. Kevin wasn't too happy about being left at Aunt Liz' but Sally explained to him that she and Catlin needed to be alone. Catlin sure it won't be for much longer. He says he's going to see Brittany today. Sally is worried that Brittany will just keep on seeing what she wants to see but Catlin maintains that she'll see reason soon. Sally told him to call her. She has a meeting with Jamie.

Jamie told Peter that there was bad news for him.

Donna called Marley from Peter's office to fuss over her. She then called Dr. Edwards. He wants to take some more tests. Donna is worried. They'll be there in an hour. He told her not to worry. She called Marley and said "Guess who doesn't have to go to school today. "

Jamie told Peter the board had decided not to publish Nouvelle. There is no market for it. Peter took it very personally. He yelled a lot. Jamie said it was because Peter had tripped along to Oregon for ages and mistimed the first issue. Peter's a jerk. Jamie says there are going to be a lot of layoffs because of this and he wants Peter with him when he tells the staff. INCLUDING SALLY. Peter said Sally's life was going really badly. Jamie said he knew and he'd do what he could for Sally but he was sure she'd understand. Peter: She just might. She's that kind of person. Jamie: Oh, STOP THIS.

Kevin is not eager to go to school. Sally gently got him to admit there was a baseball game at school today. She said she'd be there but he said that wasn't it. It was father/son and he was going to ask Catlin. Sally said Catlin would come, of course he would, why wouldn't he? Kevin sort of made inarticulate gurgles in his throat [meaning: well he's not living with us any more and you don't seem to ever stop fighting]. Sally said that didn't make a difference because Catlin loved him like his own son. She promised to call Catlin from her office for him. Kevin's happy to go to school. They passed Wallingford on their way out. He was cheery. He was nice to Maisie about Perry. He says Felicia is going to be so upset. EVERYONE STILL WONDERS ABOUT THE HAYLOFT.

Brittany went to the hospital for a checkup with her orthopedist. Catlin ran into her. He asked Joyce to tell her he wanted to see her this afternoon. She said she wanted to see him. She asked if he'd read her letter. He said he had. She asked if that was why he wanted to see her. He said he thought he might have a lead on a job for her. DETAILS THIS AFTERNOON. She asked where he wanted to meet. Anywhere she wanted he said. AND JOYCE SAID "She wants to know if you'd like to come to her room." SINISTER MUSIC.

Peter went back to his office and yelled at Donna about Jamie. She told him Marley was ill. He doesn't think there's anything to worry about now. She left to pick Marley up. She has to be all right they say.

Babies are so small said Carter. How come they cost so much money? He thought about yelling at Tom about Quinn's cheque. Dee came over. She's found an apartment for them. Lovely and cheap. On Jackson Street between Whitely and Washington. She gave him her $500. They need only $1,000 more. He's got to check it out she says. She loves it and he will too she says.

Sally [proclaiming herself to be a Ewing] called Joyce attempting to track Catlin down. He's not on the floor. She left a message for him to call her as soon as possible and to leave his afternoon free. She didn't say what about. Donna and Marley arrived and Marley went with the doctor.

Dee went to visit Tom. She was nice about Perry. Tom wanted to see him with the baby. She wants to get out of the hospital. Dee started to chat about the apartment. It turns out Tom knows nothing about the living arrangements.

Wallingford and Carter discussed Tom and Maisie. Wally's a good guy. Maisie keeps going out back to cry. Wallingford got a stock call. I guess Carter overheard.

Brittany finished and told Catlin she was ready to go. Joyce told Catlin Sally'd left a message that she needed to talk to him. Catlin took instant notice and insisted on calling her right away. He got Jamie instead and told him to tell her to call him at -- he thought better of saying he'd be in Brittany's room and said he'd call her. Sounds like a zoo in there he said to Joyce. He asked if Sally been upset when she called. Joyce said she'd sounded pretty happy. Catlin said it couldn't have been too important then. He left with Brittany.

Wallingford told Carter about this great chance he had to likely double his money. Carter asked if anyone could invest. Wallingford told him he wasn't to invest. Carter protested but Wally was firm. Wally left. Carter went to make a phone call.

Marley asked the doctor what was wrong. He said as far as he knew nothing but he wanted to be absolutely certain. He told her to go home and rest. He puts fatigue down to loss of Perry. She left. He called the lab. He wants the Love girl's blood work quickly.

Wallingford return to Smiley's with a gift for Tom. Carter had already gone but Maisie said she was going over there and she'd take it. Wallingford's impressed with the young Todds. They discussed having families and kids.

Jamie told Sally about Nouvelle. She protested but not like Peter. Peter's there being obnoxious saying he disagrees with Jamie. He left to call Donna. Sally asked Jamie if she was out of a job. He said she could be Brava's art director while the real one was on maternity leave and he'd try to find something else for when the real one returned. Sally agreed when she found out Kathleen was purportedly all for it. Jamie apologized for her life but she understands. He told her how Peter felt. She said Peter was wrong and he'd understand. Jamie said he didn't really care what Peter thought.

Peter called Mr. Albertson. [In the middle of the above meeting before Peter left Jamie's secretary had come in to say Mr. Albertson had called wanting to talk to Jamie. Jamie had him put off. He's so busy with Nouvelle. He has no time for dinner meeting.] He claimed to be Jamie and said he could see Mr. Albertson any convenient time.

Brittany wants to show Catlin something. Brittany I think we should talk he said but she paid him no attention. What are you doing he said. Yes, it's nice. You look very nice. Turns out she's showing him rope tricks. He said he couldn't do that anymore. He said they weren't a team anymore and she has to understand that. He said it rather loudly.

Marley went to Smiley's. She asked Maisie what she thought it was like to die. She's been thinking a lot about dying she says. Maisie told her she had a long happy life ahead of her and she owed it to Perry not to dwell on death. She went to school. Dee appeared and talked to Maisie about the apartment.

Tom told Carter married couples didn't HAVE roommates. He told her to calm down. She told him to explain it. She thinks it's a good idea but he should've told her. And they don't have the money. He said he'd take care of that. She suggested Quinn's cheque. He wants to try without it. He didn't say how.

Kevin called Sally to say the game had started with Catlin nowhere in sight. She said Catlin hadn't called her back. Jamie told her Catlin had called but said he was busy and would call her later. She told this to Kevin and said Catlin hadn't known about the game. Kevin cried. She promised she'd make it up to him and she loved him. She told Jamie it wasn't his fault. Catlin arrived. Jamie fled to see Peter. Catlin: what's wrong? Sally: where were you? Why didn't you try to return my call? Catlin: I did. Didn't Jamie tell you? Sally: well, why didn't you try to find me? Catlin: Well baby it didn't sound very important. Sally: There was a father/son baseball game today at Kevin's school. He wanted you to go with him. Catlin: Well, why didn't you tell me? Sally: I didn't know about it until this morning. Catlin: Well, why didn't you leave that in the message? Sally: BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THAT'S WHAT I HAD TO DO GET YOU TO CALL ME BACK. Catlin: I'm sorry but something else came up. I need to talk to you about it. Sally: I'm sorry. I've tried to be really understanding about all this but Kevin was crying -- and I may be out of a job now and I'm just really not in the mood to hear your problems. It sounded like she left. She'd worked herself up rather.

Peter talked to Donna. They're concerned about Marley. Donna is to call him when she hears from the doctor. Jamie arrived to assure Peter there was nothing personal in his decision to scrap the magazine and he hoped they could work together. Peter was UTTERLY UNREASONABLE in that way he has and said he was just upset and he understood. Jamie was pleased and left. YES JAMIE I HAVE EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL said Peter.

Dr. Edwards called Donna saying he had Marley's lab results and it might be better if he dropped over to talk to her in person about them.
