ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

April 18, 1985

Victoria arrived at Jake's room disguised in such a way that he was reminded of Greta Garbo. She's seeming more Marley-like. She's determined to go to the Love house tonight.

Marley's escort called to say he had the flu. Donna threw fits and said he had to take her anyway. Marley doesn't want to go at all.

Felicia's telling Maisie and Lily about the Northwoods Inn and Grant. She says Wallingford's been acting strangely ever since. She's perplexed. He's on the phone to Cass. Cass says Dee is crazy about him. He's asking questions about what are euphemistically termed "Escort services." Wally's squeamish about that. He rang off.

Dee's wandering around with her dress in her arms. Cass calls her honey altogether too much. He said he had to go see Kathleen on business and left. BUSINESS said Dee bitterly. Mind your own BUSINESS Kathleen.

Felicia asked Wallingford about his strange behavior. She put it down to bad stock and rushed off to get him coffee. He told Lily the Northwoods Inn was going to be demolished to build a highway and he hadn't found out until Felicia had finalized the deal. He feels rotten. Lily told him he needed to break the news to Felicia right away. She's mad at Geoffrey. She ran off telling him to meet her at the Northwoods Inn in half an hour.

Peter is thrilled by Cass' book. Kathleen is pained. Cass arrived. Peter removed himself discreetly. Cass said he got a better offer from Tomorrow's Woman. He needs the money. She released him from his contract with Brava. They discussed Dee. He asked her to dinner to discuss business but she declined. He left. Oh, CASS she said wretchedly.

Marley wanted to go with Ben but he hasn't even answered her letters and she was dreading going with Martin anyway. Donna suggested Perry but Marley refuses to take him away from Nancy. And she can't go without an escort. Donna wants her to find one. Marley left for Smiley's. Donna went to lie down. Bridget [who overheard all] called Jake and suggested he escort Marley. He said he'd see what he could do. He told Victoria what Bridget wanted. She said it was too bad he couldn't go because they were going to the Loves' tonight. He thinks he should take Marley and get information and they can go the Loves' anytime. She seems a little jealous. She in her artistically off the shoulder undershirt threw herself upon him on the bed.

Grant wanted to talk to Quinn about renovating the Northwoods Inn. They decided to go out there. They discussed Tom and Carter. They're on good terms. They left.

Peter told Kathleen she shouldn't've released Cass. Blamed it on her personal involvement with Cass. She denied it and told him not to make insinuations. She had to go to the art department. He apologized. She accepted but she's cross. He's being devious on his own.

Jake asked Marley to go to a Hitchcock double feature with him tonight. She told him about the cotillion. He told her to ask someone else. She said she'd be too embarrassed to and she'd DIE rather than go unescorted. He said to practice inviting him. He gazed at her. She asked him. He accepted and she was confused and thrilled. He got some food (enough for two to her surprise) and went to his room.

Lily has charge of a young man with a box. She sent him to the kitchen with it. Told Wallingford there were now board of health violations. "You know it's a shame that Mr. Cartwright sold Felicia this place when he knew very well that there were things living in that kitchen" she said righteously.

Cass has got a young man from an agency. He's impressing upon him that he is only to take Dee to the dance and back (he fears far more extremely gigolo-like conduct). He's not to ask Dee about her uncle. He's Cass' nephew Dirk Stewart. He gave him a lot of money with promise of more. Dirk said it wasn't his run-of-the-mill gig. Cass asked what was. Dirk said he couldn't tell him. His agency guarantees total discretion. ("Why doesn't that make me feel any better?" asked Cass of the heavens.) he said he'd like Dee. She's nice and refined. Dee wandered in in a vaguely swaggerish way, looked Dirk up and down and said "Who's the stud?" Cass: Why, Dee, what a way you have of masking your fragile nature. Dee: you're didn't tell me who HE is. Cass: Deirdre Evans, my nephew Dick -- um, Dirk. He informed her that he was her escort. Dirk left. Dee says he's pretty nice looking but she'd have a better time with Cass.

Jake is going to rent a tuxedo and buy flowers. Victoria seems somewhat jealous. He said the cotillion should be fun. Not too much fun said she biting his shoulder and traveling to his face.

Felicia Grant and Quinn and converged on the Northwoods Inn. Quinn is impressed. They're going to make it more comfortable. Wally and Lily appeared. Felicia called them rats [affectionately] for running out on her.

Cass is perusing Brava and looking at Kathleen's credit in it. Kathleen M. McKinnon. He wonders what the M stands for. [So do I. Last I heard her middle name was Theresa.] Dee appeared and said he'd be proud of her tonight. She's thinking about what she's to do after her debut. He suggested college. She said he needed a secretary. He said he just wanted to get through tonight. He went to make them sandwiches. "I'm not going to walk out of your life Cass. I CAN'T."

Marley went home to tell Donna she was going to the cotillion with Jake. Donna is glad she's going but she doesn't quite like the with Jake aspect. Marley was surprised and a little upset. She says Jake is cute and available and it's not like he eats with his hands or anything. Donna: I just don't like to see selling yourself short like this. Marley: I'm not doing that Donna. Donna: I know Jake is handsome and I know this is just to dance to you but [Peter appeared in the shadows out of their sight about now.] it could mean something more at your age. Marley: Donna I thought you'd be glad when you heard that I was going to the cotillion. Donna: I am glad. A boy like Jake could begin to mean something to you. Dancing close, and you have a beautiful dress on and you're feeling giddy. Donna said she'd made some mistakes and she didn't want Marley to. Marley said she was taking the whole thing too seriously and she didn't think going to a dance with Jake would be a mistake. Peter made his official entrance. They were delighted to see him for lunch. Marley dashed off to make it. Donna was opposed but Peter encouraged her. Donna told Peter she'd given up the sewing and had bought the dress. Peter told her if she wanted to be a mother to Marley she should tell her.

Lily told Felicia that Geoffrey Cartwright had sold her a bugged restaurant. Wallingford went with them to check out the kitchen. Quinn told Grant apologetically that Lily had a horror of bugs and sometimes imagined them [hopefully]. Felicia screamed in the kitchen destroying that theory. They came back "I never knew they had such long tails" said Felicia. Lily said things about seeing lawyers and getting Felicia's money back. Quinn said they didn't need to and gave them the number of a terrific exterminator, much to Wally and Lily's horror. Grant and Quinn left. Lily and Wally tried to convince her to try to get her money back. She got suspicious. Felicia: I can tell by the look on your faces. Lily: [after a beautiful pause] what faces? Felicia demanded to know what was up.

Kathleen told printing not to stick in Cass' book and call Peter to find out what to do instead.

Donna told Peter she is thinking about it but not the night of her debut. Peter thinks Marley can handle it. Publishing called and Peter said in effect that Kathleen was Deranged and Confused and Silly and of course they are serializing the Winthrop book and how had she got the idea they weren't in her pretty little noggin. He said he had a signed release. Peter told Donna Marley should be told.

Victoria's "Admiring" Jake's tux. He went to try it on. She called Bridget and in a peremptory fashion said she was to come to see her tonight.

Quinn's at Grant's. She laughed and said "How very masculine" when he managed to get her dead car started. He asked her to dinner [if you ask me they were standing too close together]. She said she'd go if they took Tom and Carter. She agreed.

Felicia is dumbstruck. Wallingford apologized. The exterminator arrived. Felicia sat down on the floor. She's really depressed.

Victoria is distinguished from Marley at this point by her mouth. Marley sort of purses her lips and contrives to look cute and sweet and happy whereas Victoria sort of purses her lips and contrives to look petulant. Bridget's watching her wear an outfit of Marley's she [Bridget] copied. It has only to be hemmed. Victoria asked what it was like working for Donna. Bridget said sometimes Donna was quite nasty and other time she was sort of sad. Like Victoria herself. Victoria wants to go to the house tonight. Bridget told her she couldn't without Jake. Victoria is mad. Bridget told her she had to wait and she'd get what she wanted. Victoria said she'd do the hem herself. Bridget left. Victoria said to herself "I'll get what I want TONIGHT. I'm going to that house."
