The invitations for Amanda's wedding arrived. They'll have to be delivered by messenger. Rachel pointed out that Sam had crossed his mother's name off the guest list. Amanda gasped.
Jason nagged Adam. Adam told him he had to make a case before he could do anything. Jason said the watch was the key.
Donna found Elizabeth's watch in a drawer in a desk and slipped it into her pocket. Michael came down and phoned Adam, who told him to bring the watch. Michael looked in the drawer. Donna asked if he wanted the watch. She dangled it in front of him and demanded answers. Michael convinced her it had to be a surprise. He asked her to stay home. He said it so sweetly she said she would, but as soon as he left she put on her coat and ran to the door. She was intercepted by Victoria.
That Old Carrot yelled at André. André said Michael had increased security too much for him to get into the suite.
Liz was horrified that Sam would exclude his mother. Amanda said Sam must have told her he was getting married, at least. Mac rolled up and asked what Sam had done. Liz told him. Amanda said to leave it to her.
Vicky told Donna she was concerned about Jamie and Lisa. Donna hastily advised her to talk to them and ran off. Vicky thought about Lisa accusing her of pursuing Jamie and then apologizing for being jealous.
Michael brought the watch to Adam. Lisa asked to see it. Holding it she got the feeling it was safe for Elizabeth to hide something. They decided to investigate Elizabeth's bank. Michael was sent to do that. Lisa said she would take André. Adam advised her to be careful. He told Jason he needed him as a decoy. Donna watched Michael from behind a newspaper. She followed him.
Sam dropped by Brava to pick up his last paycheck. Liz sniffed at his painty sweatshirt. Amanda dashed up and said her parents wondered about his mother. He said it was none of their concern. Appeased, she ran off. Rachel found Sam and begged him to invite his mother, particularly for Matthew's sake.
Lisa ran into Tops dressed as Roxie and waylaid André with a story about the drinking of her [recently ex-]boyfriend. Jason came in. André couldn't take his eyes off him. He went over to the bar to be near him.
When Michael came up against a wall in the bank Donna burst in to help him. She introduced herself as Elizabeth's daughter and asked the bank guy to open Elizabeth's safety deposit box. Michael had the bank guy leave them alone. Donna demanded answers. He accused her of lying to him. She told him he'd been lying to her. He said it would have put her in danger if he had told her the truth. He told her the truth. She said she and Nicole should have been told. He sent her home and reminded her she didn't know anything about this business. The bank guy appeared with bad news.
André told Lisa he had to leave but he'd make her forget Artie later. Vicky emerged from the elevator and was stunned to see André kissing Lisa. When André left Lisa dabbed her mouth with a napkin. Vicky asked Lisa about her problems with Jamie. Lisa said André was just an old friend and she'd rather have Jamie any day.
Sam told Rachel his mother just couldn't come and Mitch understood why. Rachel apologized. Sam left. Rachel told Mac she had the feeling Sam had invited his mother and she had refused to come. Mac went to set things straight with Sam.
Lisa told Adam André had followed Jason. He assured her Jason had backup. Adam thanked Lisa for her help and told her she would never wiggle undercover again. He asked how Jamie had reacted. She said Jamie would be fine. Enter Jason. He told Adam he'd noticed the guys following him but he wasn't sure if André had. Jason had pawned a watch and when he left André was flinging money around the pawn shop. Enter Michael. He said the bank needed a key. Adam said he'd call for a court order instead.
When Donna got home she made a phone call. That Old Carrot was in her apartment. She hung up without making her connection and ordered him out. He ignored her. He said he wanted Elizabeth's watch for sentimental reasons. She said she'd never had it. She asked about her mother. He refused to talk about it. She accused him of driving her mother to suicide. He flew into a rage and left.
Rachel told Amanda not to worry about Mac and Sam. Amanda suspects the mother refused to come, too. She decided to write a note to her. Rachel approved.
Sam painted. He thought about seeing his painting in the gallery in Chicago with Amanda and later showing her the cheque from his first sale. Mac dropped by. Sam was extremely civil. Mac was even more so. They discussed Rachel's art. Mac told him he was making an effort to improve relations and he hoped Sam would too. Sam refused to talk about his mother but agreed to come to dinner and call him Mac instead of Mr. Cory. They parted on good terms.
Rachel told Liz she didn't think Sam's mother could afford to come so she was going to send her a ticket and a note.
Adam discovered it would be 48 hours before they could get their court order. He gave Lisa the watch again and told her to think about a key. She said all she could get was the watch. Everyone despaired. [maybe it's inside.]
André told That Old Carrot the watch he'd got was a fake and he'd heard Adam was trying to get a court order for a safety deposit box in Chicago. That Old Carrot asked for the name of the judge.
How did That Old Carrot get into Donna's suite if Michael increased the security so much? He said he had convinced the superintendent that he had to see his daughter, but surely the private security would know never to let That Old Carrot in under any circumstances.
