ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

July 8, 1985

Dayouts on July 4 & 5 on account of Wimbledon. Carl is gone; I don't know who is responsible for any resulting children. Since we know that Catlin was staring at the floor and most emphatically not sleeping with anyone in the room, we can assume that he is responsible only for children in Washington who wouldn't be dayout babies anyway, just brought about by Alicechat. No, for this dayout my money is on the Man in Chicago, wildly sinister (Carl's in jail there) and mysterious.

Scuffling. Larry is surrounded and weaponless.

Wallingford's helping Grant out by being maitre d'. Felicia is going to have dinner with Michaud and Daphne. He might hang around; he says Daphne's as sweet and smooth as chocolate mousse. Daniel and Kathleen are reportedly in the private dining room. Felicia: Boy, I wonder what Cass would do if he knew that. Wallingford: Oh, he'd probably say something insulting just to prove he couldn't care less. Felicia: Right. Boy, is he predictable when it comes to Kathleen.

Daphne took fits at Cass.

Rustling. Britt: You know I remember every part of your body. I haven't been with a man since the last time we were together. Remember? Catlin: It was the night before you went off to Alaska. Evan was teething. We kept thinking we'd wake him up. Britt: (laughing somewhat seductively) Bless his heart, he slept through the whole thing. Thinking about that night got me through so much in the past three years. It was so WILD. I want you to take me like you did that night. I've been alone for so long (most of her lines are spoken in a slow husky whispery voice bordering on the offensive. One wonders about her. I keep expecting her to get really obscene, somehow.) Come on. Make love to me like you did that night. Just once. Just one time. She reached up and kissed him. He reciprocated, sort of. (I don't suppose there was really any sort of about it but I'm loth to make him sound wicked, poor dear.)

Larry: You think I'd be waiting for a goon like Polo all by myself? I got guys all over this place. Jimmy: Oh, yeah? Polo: I don't like it when he calls me goon. Larry: You're going to be a DEAD goon when he pulls that trigger. Polo: JIMMY. Jimmy: Shut up. He paid no attention to him [Larry] and had Polo and Muscles tie him up. Larry talked big but Jimmy talked big too. He went to drink leaving Polo and Muscles to rough him up.

Cass took exception to being taken fits at. Her butler is called Jose. Cass: This is CASS, remember? I'm not going to tell anybody that I saw you peeling the wallpaper. Daphne: It doesn't matter. I can do what I want. Cass: Hey, you own the joint. They got back on friendly terms. Cass talked about Frederick Chapin and teenage mistress (unaware that Daphne was said mistress) and criminality. (He said his wife left him taking his son. They call him Frederick now but with the CLH business they spoke of Leslie Chapin. How so?) Cass wants specifics regarding the Lesoleil Woman. ("No, not a model." " There goes my chance to meet Christie Brinkley." "Billy Joel will be relieved.") Someone very American. (Is Cass making passes at Daphne?) She told him to keep interviewing and she'd tell him when he got warm. He left. She returned to the wallpaper.

Vast amounts of kissing. She withdrew briefly and unbuttoned her blouse (very indecent). I don't recall what Catlin did exactly, whether he just stood there or resumed about her face, but she said "Not now. Don't you leave me now." We were left to stew during the commercial. I expect Catlin was hovering on the brink of indecision not doing much at all. For when we returned -- Brittany: It's just to say good-bye. Catlin: I can't. Brittany: We were so GOOD together. Remember? ( I can't stand the way she says "remember." Ick.) Catlin: Brittany, I love Sally. Brittany: Sally has got you the rest of her life. I only have you tonight. Catlin: Brittany, it wouldn't be right. Britt: I hope you were as faithful to me when we were together. Catlin: I was (but then again he probably didn't have the temptation of excess females draped about his neck being revolting). Put your shirt on. Britt: Well at least I know I can still get to you. I was wonderin' if I'd lost my touch. Catlin: Brittany, I don't think you have to worry about that. Britt: (laughing delightedly) All right. I won't. Catlin: You know it would be too easy to let something happen between us. But the whole time I'd be thinking about Sally, and how I was hurting her. Britt: Only if you told her. Catlin: I'd know. Britt: I just don't want to scare you away now, y'know? (I guess like Nancy he'd been swept about as far as he could be swept. I really can't see Perry sweeping Catlin though. I can see Catlin losing wives in rivers. Wading in after them and finding them (let's be realistic, I mean Sally) unconscious and fearing the Worst but not knowing AR and being distraught until a decidedly damp but still living wife comes round and noting his distress manages to cheer him considerably by not being dead.) I hope we can still be friends. Catlin: We are. Britt: Close friends? Catlin: Best. Britt: Good. He kissed her cheek and she looked peculiar. All right, you know where to reach me. Cory stables or the motel if there's any problems with the divorce. Catlin: Okay. Thanks. I know that sounds STUPID, thanking somebody for a divorce but -- I don't know what else to say. Britt: Are you mad at me for what just happened? Catlin: No. LONG PAUSE. Britt: Good friends. Catlin: Good friends. (They signed it.) Exit Britt.

Cass told Felicia all about his inner beauty difficulties. She accused him of sounding like he was talking about Kathleen when he spoke of inner beauty. She said she'd talk to Michaud. Wallingford summoned her to make sure she wasn't telling Cass about Kathleen & Daniel. She said she wasn't but she SHOULD because any mature adult should be able to hear that a former lover was well interested in someone else. Wally said that was why she couldn't tell CASS. They hope he'll be gone by the time Kathleen & Daniel appear. She returned to Cass. He went to take a phone call. It turned out to be Catlin desperate to meet Wallingford at Smiley's immediately and it could be trouble. (Darling boy, I thought, to arrange to have his path cross beloved Wallingford's.)

Daphne's still looking. She has a dropper of fluid to aid her in her search. Michaud found her at it and said he thought it sad. She's determined to find whatever it is. Sort of vengeful. He likes her better not angry and bent on revenge. She said she wanted to make love to him but he said they'd be late for Felicia. She was put out.

Catlin wants Wallingford to have Larry's Willa's stuff analysed. Wallingford is terribly concerned and asking questions like "are you planning on dealing this?" (Wallingford: Catlin's father.) Catlin said he wasn't and he just needed to know what it was. Maisie hove into view and asked questions about Sally and said he was lonely (good god, I thought, not another of them). She dispersed. Wallingford told Catlin (who had had a difficult time collecting his scattered wits to deal with the simplest of Maisie's questions) he'd have to act cooler than that if he intended to carry stuff like that about with him. He asked why he didn't have it analysed at the hospital. Catlin said there was no one he could trust enough there. "But you trust me?" "I HAVE NO CHOICE, WALLINGFORD." Wally asked if the stuff belonged to Catlin. He said it belonged to a friend and the friend had a lot. Wally said if the stuff was what he thought it was the friend had better watch his back.

Jimmy went for a drink at the Plains Motel and told Adrienne nothing, thereby alarming her.

Felicia returned to Cass and started talking to him about the Lesoleil Woman but he saw Kathleen and Daniel emerging from the dining room and rushed to greet them. He said a large number of obnoxious things and insisted on calling Daniel DANNY in spite of Kathleen's objections. Felicia was called away. Cass: So. What did you have? Kathleen: Medallions of veal. Cass: You never used to order that. Daniel: I ordered for her. Cass: Oh, isn't that sweet. Well, how come I didn't see you two kids in the dining room when I got here? Daniel: I reserved the private dining room for Kathleen and myself. Cass: Kathleen, you little DEVIL. I'll bet you didn't tell Danny here that you know all about that private suite. It has a bedroom. Did you know that, Danny? Kathleen: We had a lovely dinner. Cass: I'll bet you did. Daniel offered to take Kathleen away now and she jumped at the chance. They left. Cass: ARCHITECT. BIG DEAL. Felicia: Did they leave? Cass: They don't bother me, you know. Felicia: RIGHT. Cass: I mean they're staging these little scenarios for my benefit. I don't know why they're going to all that trouble. Felicia: And they left together. That was also for your benefit, was it? Cass fled when Daphne and Michaud arrived.

Adrienne told Jimmy he'd blown it. Carter arrived. She was scattered but she managed to tell him about the run. He had to remind her about the money. She paid him his advance. Jimmy took him aside and offered him $20 to clean up a room in the basement. Adrienne worried aloud about Larry. Jimmy $50 in advance and left. Carter's suspicious.

Britt told Maisie she was staying in Bay City. She said her future was there. [Aside: her future with Catlin.]

Kathleen and Daniel are in Smiley's after seeing Singin' in the Rain. (She likes the "I can't stand him" bits.) She asked him about his work. He'd rather talk about her and not have her be nervous. She said she wasn't used to being treated so nicely. It came out that she'd been involved with Cass. He thinks Cass is jealous. She thinks he's merely juvenile.

Michaud wants to hear Felicia's ideas. He seems to be accepting them all and Daphne doesn't like it. Felicia was called away and Michaud asked Daphne not to be petty. She says he accepts Felicia's ideas just because they're Felicia's. He warned her not to tell Felicia he knew her.

Dee's serving Muffy and a couple of friends egg creams. Muffy was obnoxious. She and her friends went out to the car to get high. Dee bitched to Carter about Muffy. He said "Muffy -- the lowest form of life." He cheered her up. He told her about all the money floating about. Dee says don't knock it. Carter thinks it's weird. He's going to find out what's up.

Daphne is resentful of Michaud's attentions to Felicia. They're in bed. (Michaud and Daphne. Felicia is nowhere about. They're at home.) She loves him and is afraid of losing him. And America frightens her. Rustling.

Wallingford went to the cabin.

Cass is fussing about inner beauty. He keeps thinking about Kathleen. He said he couldn't care less about Kathleen and her architect and he'd prove it just as soon as he could find a woman pure and shining like the sun.

Kathleen and Daniel left Smiley's.

Britt has a photograph of Catlin in her wallet. Bearded. She said to it "You wanted me. I KNOW you did."

Wally told Catlin all about phantonal [sp.?], recreational drug, and lack of illegality. He says his friend had better be careful and Catlin too. He's concerned. He left. Catlin took the rest of the drugs out of the chimney and said more things about stupidity and idiocy.

Larry is being worked over.
