Victoria sat on the terrace eating melon. Donna read the paper. John came out to talk about his car, to which he is sentimentally attached even though it always needs repairs because it is the same car in which he raped Donna. He's going to fix up the beach house. Michael came out and ordered Victoria to dress for the funeral.
Mary woke Vince. She has no regrets. They thought about Kathleen.
MJ came to Mary's Place and got upset when she found a black bow and a notice announcing a death in the family. Cass came up behind her. She demanded to know who had died and wouldn't let them touch her. Cheryl and Scott and Julie came out and brought her in. MJ got hysterical. She found out it wasn't Pops or Mama and then realised it was Kathleen.
Victoria apologised for being selfish and shallow and offered to drop John at the beach house on her way. She went to change. John asked what their connection to the McKinnons was. Oddly, Michael began with the Carrot arrangement. John recalled Jake and Marley on his own. Donna went to change. She kissed Michael thoroughly before she went up. Michael advised John to try marriage. John said Viet Nam had messed up his leg, not his brain.
Vince and Mary sat around in bathrobes, She made him tell her stories about Kathleen (Kathleen seems to have been a frightfully backward baby. She was only up to 'Dada' at 14 months.) They argued about letting her sleep with them. She gave in to him. He told her he loved her and went to dress. MJ phoned in tears and talked to Mary.
Felicia and Mitch carried on. Mitch said they could go to the funeral with Cass. Felicia phoned and found he'd checked out of his room. Felicia worried.
MJ refused tea and had a fit because she hadn't been home. She talked with Scott about the parents. She and Cheryl embraced and cried. MJ very creatively blamed herself.
Donna and Victoria came down. Michael told Victoria all about John's teenage way with girls on the beach. He left him in the shade. John and Michael argued because John was being overly sensitive. They left for the funeral.
Chad worried about MJ. Wally told him nobody knew where she was. Felicia and Mitch came up and found out that Cass was at Mary's Place. They were relieved.
Cass told MJ she was being ridiculous. MJ said Kathleen wouldn't have died if she hadn't been rushing to attend her wedding which hadn't even taken place. She said she should have called the wedding off weeks ago because no one would want to marry her. Cass told her not to talk rot. She freaked out and said she wanted to die. Cass was shaking her as Vince and Mary came in. He calmed her down and told her they all had to be strong for each other. Nobody says anything about Kathleen's being a barracuda. Vince was very nice to Cass.
Julie Ann reported to the gang at Tops. Chad listened from afar as Wally told Felicia and Mitch and Mac that MJ was in rough shape. He hurried out. Felicia asked Mac to give Cass a job. Mac was pleased to.
Victoria watched John in action with a power saw. She seems to think the beach house will be her new place when it's done. (How right she is, I cannot say.) She told him that the beach house was the site of Michael's renewed courting of Donna. She left.
Everyone collected at Mary's Place after the funeral. Mac told Vince he'd like to talk later. Vince was agreeable. Cass began making a speech. He said Kathleen had always brought him around to believing that 2 + 2 = 5. She was the most. He stopped and fled. Mac pursued him with intent to offer him a job. He said he was being sued and Zack was frightfully busy and he needed his help desperately. They had described a candidate for state senator as 'wide of girth.' He lost. He blames Brava. Cass refused the job. Mac told Cass he owed him. He pled.
MJ attacked a tomato in the kitchen. Mary came out. MJ said she had to tell Vince about the prostitution. Mary asked her not to add to his grief just now. MJ said she had to tell everybody. Chad came in. Mary gave MJ a last warning and left. Chad embraced MJ to comfort her. She pulled away and told him he had someone else now. He dismissed Sara as a kid. She rejected him. She said she couldn't make the same mistakes twice and she was going to be the daughter her family deserved starting today. Exit MJ.
Donna came to fetch John from the beach house. He refused to leave. She refused to wait. She stayed to argue. She started to leave. He started up his saw and got sawdust in his eyes. She rushed back to help. A stranger lurked with a camera.
Mary thought about last night. Vince came into the bedroom. He seemed a little awkward. MJ came in to talk. Mary looked pleadingly at her over Vince's shoulder. MJ told Vince she'd been jealous of Kathleen when she was younger but she realised she had to stop feeling sorry for herself. She isn't blaming Kathleen any more. She has to be more like her. She has to be honest. Mary told her NOT NOW.
Michael asked Cass to work for him. Cass yelled and said he was leaving Bay City for good. Felicia chased him and told him he was a dirty coward.
