Felicia tried to find out from Mitch what was bothering him.
Nicole retired to her dressing room. She opened her closet and screamed.
Michael danced with Nancy.
MJ refused to talk about professional singing with Adam. She thought about the man from the shower. He said he wanted to know why she was so tense and nervous. She said she just wanted to go home. He was offended until she added that she wanted him to make love to her. Then he got flustered. He rushed off to get the coats.
Reginald addressed the noise as McKinnon. Whatever it was went away. Mary was appalled to see that he had been ready to use the gun. He told her many people were threatened by his power and said he would never let anyone hurt her.
Peter warned Scott to drop his investigation. He said they had to back Reginald. Scott ignored him. Peter danced with Peggy and asked her to let Brittany go to Montana so reporters would stop bugging him. She said she couldn't because Brittany was such a big risk. They turned the conversation to other topics.
Jamie emerged from Nicole's closet bearing flowers. Nicole yelled at him for scaring her. She called him a creep. She told him if she'd known Reginald owned the club and not Peter she wouldn't have agreed to sing. [It's a fine line.] She refused to go out with him tonight because of poor dear Michael.
Michael chatted up Nancy and MJ. Adam was lost in the coat check. MJ: there was a big rush for the coat check right after midnight. Michael: they must have found out their host is the Vulture. MJ: isn't he unbelievable? Michael: Reginald Love, the only man in captivity who has to TRICK people into coming to a party.
Wallingford was no help to Felicia. [Felicia: oh, Wally, good. You can ask him. Wally: what? Felicia: why he was so down. He won't tell me, maybe he'll tell you. Wally: oh, Felicia, people just get down sometimes. Felicia: why, Wally, THANK you. You really pulled that out of him. Wally: well, Felicia, you know, it's the ANTICIPATION waiting for the new year to come in, and when it comes, you're down a little bit. Felicia: yes, yes, well, I'm certainly glad we had this little talk. Has he been this helpful for you too all night, Jeannie? Jeannie: well, he's been fun. Felicia: I GUESS WITH ME HE'S JUST PHILOSOPHICAL.] Felicia found out from Nancy that Rachel had been late for the family celebration. Mitch wouldn't say anything. Nancy was unable to find anything about Tony from Wallingford. He didn't hire him.
Michael held Adam up a little to chat about Reginald's set up against Vince. Adam in his haste agreed to everything feverishly and finally escaped in order to run MJ home. Michael conceded that love took precedence. Adam rushed MJ into her coat but somehow they missed an elevator while standing around kissing. [cf. Carter missing an elevator. Do love and elevators have some mystical association I know nothing about?]
Mary has become disillusioned by the gun episode. Reginald promised to throw the gun away and leave himself
MJ: where's the elevator? Adam: I don't know. I think we missed a couple. At long last the elevator came.
Cheryl yelled at her mother. MJ stayed behind to watch. Mary was unable to justify her kissing Reginald. MJ sent Adam on ahead so she could take Cheryl home and calm her down. She will be over afterwards. She took Cheryl out of the fight. Mary told Reginald she had to go home to think. Scott went after her. Michael bugged Reginald little about her McKinnonness.
MJ and Cheryl heard a noise in the car park. They called "Pops? Is that you?" But there was no answer. They got into the car and left.
Nancy remembered she had a note for Felicia from Rachel and gave it to her. It explained what had happened with Mitch. He refused to talk about it. She tried to talk in spite of him.
Mary told Scott Cheryl hadn't been out of line. She's confused about Reginald.
Felicia refused to butt out. Reginald interrupted with an offer for her. He suggested she buy it [for generous terms] and run it for him. Mitch refused. Felicia was sceptical. He told her she'd run the classiest places in town. [If her business ventures have been so great, why haven't they ever turned a profit?] He assured her he wouldn't interfere but he would back her. She was tempted. She told Mitch she was broke and she owed her staff jobs. He told her that Reginald was a bad man. She changed the subject.
Michael praised Nicole's singing pipes and dancing stems. She told him she hadn't dated in a long time because her sister Donna got the last good man.
MJ attempted to explain to Cheryl as delicately as possible just exactly why she was going out and not coming home that night. Cheryl stopped her early on and said she understood. MJ called her a rotten, precocious kid, hugged her, and fled with her little overnight bag. She heard a noise outside and called out to Pops.
Michael assured Nicole he had faith that Donna would get better.
Mitch found Reginald out on the observation deck and made oblique threats to push him off if he didn't listen.
Receiving no answer, MJ got into her car. The man from her shower rose up in the backseat and clamped his hand over her mouth. "How's my best baby?" he said.
