Prayer

"Lead me to the Cross, where we first met;
Draw me to my knees so we can talk."

OK, I admit it, my most heartfelt prayers go to God when I'm in trouble. Should be when I'm happy and counting my blessings; prayers of praise and thankfulness.

This page will grow as a place for guidance in prayer.

A thought from Max Lucado in his book "The Great House of God":

    You can talk to God because God listens. Your voice matters in heaven. He takes you very seriously. When you enter his presence, the attendants turn to you to hear your voice. No need to fear that you will be ignored. Even if you stammer or stumble, even if what you have to say impresses no one, it impresses God--and he listens....

    Intently. Carefully. The prayers are honored as precious jewels. Purified and empowered, the words rise in a delightful fragrance to our Lord....Your words do not stop until they reach the very throne of God.

    "I pray that as you share your faith with others it will grip their lives, too, as they see the wealth of good things in you that come from Christ Jesus." Philemon 1:6

So many prayers are received by our prayer page asking for God to change someone: usually a spouse. These are wise prayers, in that we are seldom able to change anyone, particularly those close to us. We can only change ourselves. Changing someone else is usually too hard for us, so it must be turned over to God.

If you need convincing about the effectiveness of prayer, keep a prayer diary where you list all the matters and people you pray for, and periodically check the list to tick off those prayes that have been answered.

Intercessory Payer is prayer for others, probably unknown personally to you, and prayer for groups and events. It can be done by individuals acting alone, or coordinated so that multitudes pray for the same purpose. Patricia King runs an intercessory prayer ministry out of Kelowna B.C. with a web presence at Extreme Prophetic. If you would like to pray individually for others, you may like to visit our Ottawa Alpha Prayer Request Page. If you an experienced intercessor, you may be interested in spiritual mapping.   Every Home For Christ is an international organization promoting the transformation of cities and communities to a higher awareness of Jesus Christ, in association with One Way Ministries and The Sentinel Group. For example, as detailed in the wonderful film Transformations II, God has totally changed Uganda in the space of 15 years from killing fields to God-centered government and society.

A charismatic revival occurs just abour every century, and in about 1963 such a revival was led by episcopalian priest Dennis Bennett, which has gone from strength to strength ever since, bringing a charismatic wing to many denominations. Listen to Dennis Bennett on the subjects of baptism in the Spirit, tongues and healing.

I suspect that the absence of daily Christian prayer in our schools has been a major factor in the spiritual vacuum that is today's society. More and more school children are upset and concerned about laws that prohibit public prayer in school, in the interest of other religions. In Canada this has spilled over into public life, so that politicians and other speechmakers are discouraged from referring to God. In the USA there is a far healthier attitude, and President George W. Bush when in office took a leadership role in placing The Lord first and formost in the business of government. Noone doubted Bush's faith.

Earnest requests for your prayers:

  • While many of us are so fortunate to live in countries where the worst thing that could happen to you for confessing your faith is that some people may laugh at you, there are thousands if not millions of persecuted Christians in the world today. November 10, 2002 was last year's international day of prayer for them.
  • We particularly ask your prayers for the plight of Pakistani Christians
