September 5, 2006 - Islet Lake to Rain Lake

We got up just after the sun rose to the first nice weather day. A cool mist rose from the lake in the early morning sunshine. We packed up as the water heated for a simple oatmeal and coffee breakfast. We hit the trail by 08:00 as the day started to get warmer. Shortly after starting we came to a log bridge that an industrious beaver had decided to convert into a large dam, which made for an interesting crossing. A little while later another section of trail had been flooded over from another beaver project. Trail marker tape led us around the flooding, but we still had to make a tricky crossing over some floating logs in knee deep water. We reached the railbed and hiked to the bridge remains and had a snack on top of one of the old pillars. Another couple hours of hiking brought us back to the trailhead. The drive home was much too long.
