Another nice day, which turned out to be the day of blueberries. We were slow moving due to the countless stops to
snack on these tasty morsels found pretty much everywhere we looked. Today was also a day of walking along vast
stretches of rock slabs and boulder fields along coastline with an unobstructed view of water to the horizon. We took
the longer route along the coast which was well worth the extra distance. As we came to the mouth of the Willow River,
we spied our campsite on the far side, with several tents already on it. Shortly after, we met a couple people who
were out for a stroll, and after a brief conversation it was revealed that it was their tents across the bay. They
were not too apologetic, and the conversation got a little tense at one point, with finally us hiking off to see what
could be done when we got closer to our designated campsite. We crossed a suspension bridge which was large and well
engineered enough to drive a tank across, and then we were hiking the beach. There were many other people here who
were also looking for campsites, as well as a pair of rangers who had just finished dealing with an evacuation due
to a broken toe on another hiker. A brief conversation with these fellows settled the campsite issue, as the site
poachers were then promptly evicted, and we moved in for the evening... quite a bit of a different experience from the
tranquility we have enjoyed the last four nights. All the kerfuffle was worth it though as it is
a beautiful site, at the mouth of the Willow River, looking out at the great expanse of Lake Superior. It is probably
the only site large enough for our sizable group as well in this area.
Pretty forests to walk through when not on the coast.
Ate a few of these today.
Descending down to the rocky coastline.
Walking along the coast.
Scrambling the rocks.
Stolling along my way to work.
Crossing the Willow River.
Maintaining the watch fire after doing battle to secure our territory.
