June 12, 2022 - Boundary Lake
I got up an hour before everyone and read my book down by the lake. The bugs were ferocious though, so I attired in full rain
gear and a head net to keep them at bay. Drinking coffee with a head net was an interesting challenge. The privy for
this site
is quite a long hike up to the top of the hill, which just happened to be the only place where we had cell reception.
For some reason, visits to the privy seemed to be longer than normal this morning.
Shigaug Lake calm in the morning
Tell us a story Papa! How about the journey between Shigaug and Boundary lakes?
As we left camp we encountered a very aggressive grouse who really did not want us passing by. We gingerly stepped
around her, looking around for a nest, but not seeing one. As we only had about seven kilometers to go today, we
took several breaks at lookouts along the ridge. While hiking down one steep section, our friend Grant appeared
on scene as he was on his second day of a three day speed hike of the trail. We filled him in on the helicopter
rescue and hiked along together for a little while before he declared we were too slow for him and he sped off.
On the ridge again
Grant fancy-pants catches us up for a bit
Camp on Boundary Lake was the nicest spot of them all so far. A slab rock beach leads into water that is warm enough
for an extended swim. Silver Peak, which looks pretty green from this angle, provides the backdrop. We plan to climb
it tomorrow.
Descending to Boundary Lake

This is why we do this. Fantastic photo taken by Mel.
