Got up around 07:30 and started making some coffee. Dave got up and joined me so we sat around shooting the
shit for about half an hour until Emily got up. We cooked up some eggs, bacon, sausages, and had a nice big meal.
There was a couple eggs left over, so I hard boiled them for later. We packed up camp and then said goodbye to Dave
as he was hiking out today, back the way we came yesterday. Emily and I were continuing. The trail today was much
more difficult. All was single track, most was overgrown, and much was very muddy. We crossed a few boggy areas which
were completely flooded and created ugly slurping sounds as you splashed through them. The trail looked like it had
seen much more bear traffic than human. There were several instances of scat, lots of tracks, and a chunk of the
railing on one of the bridges was torn to bits with claw marks. Several of the boggy sections were filled with
poisin ivy. All this sounds negative, but it was actually an interesting day. We stopped for lunch at a campsite
along the trail and had egg and cheese sandwiches. Continuing on we crossed many different forest types again, and
saw lots of interesting fungus and several pheasants which flew out of the brush as we passed. We were warned that
the campsite we were staying at had no easy access to water, so we stopped at a stream to fill up just before we got
to camp. I tried to take a picture at one point but a tick had climbed into the camera lens and jammed it. Fortunately
I was able to pry it out with a twig and got the camera working again. The final trail to the campsite was completely
overgrown and mostly unmarked. We had to pick our way through the brush for about 500m until we finally found the tiny
campsite. After hanging the food rope, I found a tick attached to the back of my neck which pulled out easily. We
ate a spagetti supper and then hit the sack early as we were pretty tired.
