August 12, 2006 - Big Dam Lake to Inness Brook

Slept over at Dave and Erin's house in Halifax. Woke up early and then we drove to Bridgewater for breakfast. Dave drove his car and we drove our rental. Breakfast was really good and greasy, just what we needed. We arrived at the park and checked in. The checkin girls gave us the full run down on bears, fires, camping, and everything else. We shuffled the cars, with my car at the bottom and Dave's at the top, as Dave is only staying one night. The hike starts out easy. The first 10 km are roads which allow you to boot along. We had lunch at a campsite along the trail and then continued on. The woods here are fantastic. Every kilometer brings a different type of forest. We passed through hardwoods, coniferous forests, cedar bushes, fern filled rain forests and others. The trail also got more technical, but since this park is as flat as a pancake, it was not too difficult. By 16:00 we had reached the campsite. Rested for a bit and then cooked up some supper. While we were resting, a warden showed up and chatted with us for a while. After supper we played Boxcars, a game with dice. It was really fun. We spent the rest of the night sitting around the fire drinking whiskey.
