North Rim Traverse

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland
September 5-8, 2017

As Katharina had never been to Newfoundland, we planned a trip including some hiking and biking. One of the hikes I have had on my list was the North Rim Traverse in Gros Morne. Having done the Long Range Traverse back in 2004, I was pretty confident I knew what I was in for. Not a lot has changed, though there is now a well worn and marked path out of the Western Brook Pond gorge as there are now guided day hiking groups making the trek to the the top of this spectacular area. Once out of the gorge though, the North Rim is still fairly wild, with two full days requiring map and compass work. The last day from Snug Harbour out is on a marked trail, though it is a very poorly maintained mudhole of a path.
