Warmer Skiing on the P19 Loop
Today's ski was 7 km from P19 around the Trail 51 and 53 loop. Our recent skis have been at temperatures of -10 to -14°C, but today was at -3°C, as we have a slight thaw here for a few days, before winter is forecast to return. This was ski number twenty for this winter.

Skiing from P19 to the Mud Lookout
Today's ski was 18 km from P19 to the Mud Lookout and back under brilliant sunshine.
A Ski to Lusk Cabin the Hard Way
After a total new snowfall of 69.2 cm in two back-to-back storms, we headed back to P19 in the north end of Gatineau Park to ski to Lusk Cabin, one of our favourite runs. What we found was harder than expected, though. There had been no grooming for two days, as we were told a grooming machine had been dropped into a ravine on Trail 55. That, plus some serious wind yesterday meant that the trails had a lot of leaves on them, especially in the classic tracks, which made skiing slow and hazardous.
Ski to Healey Cabin
With the Gatineau Loppet ski races on, we tried to avoid it by leaving late and skiing from P16 to Healey, but they fooled us, by being much slower than expected and so had to avoid some of the stragglers. We still did the 10 km to Healey for lunch and back.
Valentine's Ski to Lusk
For Valentine's Day we did the 10 km ski from P19 to Lusk Cabin and back.
Sixth Skate on the Rideau Canal
Today I did a solo skate from the Rideau Canal's south end to the north end and back again including Dow's Lake in both directions. I completed that in 1:06, plus a five minute break at the north end.
Return to Healey Cabin
The ski run from P16 in the Meech Valley up the Eardley Escarpment to Healey Cabin and back is one of our favourite trips. It is 10 km and has a lot of great hills.
Skiing the P19 Loop
This ski was 7 km around the Trail 51 & 51 loop from P19.
Skiing to Lac Taylor
This ski was 12 km from the P19 gatehouse to the Lac Taylor junction and back via trail 51.
Skiing Trails 50, 51, 53, 54 & 55 to Lusk Cabin
This time out we skied Trails 50, 51, 53, 54 & 55 to Lusk Cabin and back for 13 km round trip. When we got there we found no one there, but the fire was blazing in the woodstove and the place was nice and warm.
We also put together a short video on this trip.
Skiing Trails 30 & 1 to Keogan Cabin
This route was one we had not done this year, on Trails 30 & 1 to Keogan Cabin and back for 10 km.
Skiing Trails 51 & 50 to Renaud Cabin
This route was one we had not done in several years, on Trails 51 & 50 to Renaud Cabin and back for 9 km.
Another Ski to Lusk Cabin
Today's ski was once again 11 km from P19 to Lusk Cabin and back. This time we lit a fire in the woodstove and were there for almost two hours.
Fifth Skate on the Rideau Canal
Due to 7 cm of fresh snow skiing was "off", so we took the train down and did another skate on the Rideau Canal. The temperature was -10°C, with a windchill of -19.
Fourth Skate on the Rideau Canal
Once again the Rideau Canal was open end-to-end and rated "very good", so we rode the train down to skate. The temperature was -13°C, with a windchill of -21.
Skiing to Lusk Cabin
Today's ski was 11 km from P19 to Lusk Cabin and back.
Skiing the P19 Loop
Today's ski was 7 km from P19 counterclockwise around the loop.
Third Skate on the Rideau Canal
With the Rideau Canal now open from end-to-end and rated "very good", we took the train down to skate. The north end was more like "very poor" but the rest was in good shape for skating. The temperature reached as high as -10°C, with a windchill of -19. We did get our BeaverTails.
Skiing From P16 to Herridge
Today's ski was 10 km from P16 to Herridge Cabin and back again.
Skiing in the New Year
Skiing finally restarted today after our 7 cm snowfall. We skied from P16 to Healey Cabin and back again.
Second Skate on the Rideau Canal
We got in a second skate on the Rideau Canal today, since it was almost all open now. We even did the trip to get there by train.
First Skate on the Rideau Canal
We got in a skate on the Rideau Canal today, our first since . It was quite busy on the ice and in the BeaverTail line, as well. Only 4 km, from Bank to Laurier, of the 7.8 km total length was open.
