Liz raved to Sally about how Brittany might STAY. Sally said Brittany had as much right as anyone to live in Bay City. Liz told her she should think of herself. Sally said she'd already had a big fight with Catlin about it. She said he felt sorry for Brittany. Liz said she should tell Catlin how she felt before it was too late. Enter Catlin. Exit Liz. "Too late for what?" inquired Catlin.
Peter as Jamie reconfirmed with Mr. Albertson.
Dale's still missing. Larry and MJ think she's been done away with or something. And Larry figures the only person who could've known she was a danger to Sly had to work at the station.
Wallingford wants to find Felicia so he can be the one to tell her about Perry. He told Cass about the mysterious party giver. Cass wonders why he wasn't invited. A package came for him. It's "Something from somebody with a crude sense of humor" said Cass. It proved to be from Kathleen with a card suggesting they call off their bet. Cass explained the circumstances to Wally. Felicia called from the Northwoods Inn. Wally wanted to talk to her. They missed each other. He said he'd go right over. He doesn't know how he's going to tell her.
Felicia thinks Grant's acting funny. They wonder what the guests have in common. She wants to invite Perry and Nancy. Grant stopped her from calling Smiley's. He reluctantly told her about Perry. She got upset.
Catlin wants to take Sally and Brittany to the Northwoods Inn for dinner. Sally: You've got to be kidding. Catlin: Now listen to me--Sally: WE'RE going to take Brittany to dinner? Catlin: You're not -- it's not -- Sally: HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND? Catlin: I want her to see the two of us together. I want her to see how we ARE together. That way she'll see that she and I don't have a future ... come on, Brittany's stronger now. The job at the Corys' has really helped her. She's ready to face the truth now. Sally: Then why don't you just tell her? Why do the three of us have to sit down to a candlelight dinner together? Catlin: I want to do it GENTLY. Sally: Gently. Catlin: What, what does that mean? Sally: She's never going to give up on you. Catlin: I want us to be together. But I don't want Brittany to be miserable. Sally: FINE. Catlin: I want her to find somebody else. But the only way she's going to do that is if she knows there's no hope for us. Sally: Is there? Catlin: No, not a bit. I love you. Sally: I try to remember that. I try not to push. Maybe I'm not doing you any favours. Catlin: What does that mean? Sally: That THINGS HURT ME TOO. Catlin: I know that. Sally: Like going to this dinner tonight. Catlin: Baby, just for one night. Sally: I -- no, I'm sorry. Catlin: I already invited Brittany. Sally: And you just ASSUMED I'd go along with it? Catlin: Now how am I going to explain this to her? [STONY SILENCE] Okay, I'll take her myself. Sally: If you're so anxious for her to find somebody why don't you invite Zane? Catlin: He's OUT OF TOWN. Sally: I don't have any other suggestions. Catlin: Baby, this isn't a big deal. Sally: ISN'T IT? Catlin: I WANT US TO BE TOGETHER. I COULD CARE LESS WHO ELSE IS THERE. Enter Liz. Liz: Excuse me please. Catlin: LIZ. WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO TO DINNER WITH BRITTANY ME AND SALLY TONIGHT? Liz: Dinner? Catlin: I'VE GOT IT, I KNOW, I'LL ASK LARRY AND CLARICE. IT'LL BE MY FAMILY. Just my family. Sally: I don't think I can get a sitter for Kevin. Catlin: Come on, please, will you try? Sally: Yeah, I'll try. Catlin: OK. I'll pick you up at 7 o'clock tonight. Liz, I'll see you later. Exit Catlin. Liz: You know that you can get a sitter for Kevin. Sally: How am I supposed to sit across that dinner table from her? Liz: By the end of that dinner, Brittany Peterson will know she doesn't stand a chance.
Kathleen asked Peter to get someone else to deal with Cass. Peter will think about it. She's going home early. They'll meet at the Northwoods Inn tonight. She left. Peter wondered aloud how he'd live without Marley. Enter Sally. "Peter. What's wrong?"
MJ didn't believe him. Clarice arrived. The Bakers are worried about Dale. Larry cheated over getting her filed as a missing person before 24 hours. Clarice told him Dale had called asking for him. He sent her to be with the Bakers. Larry's convinced his theory is right.
Wallingford was kind to Felicia. She can't think why Perry was in the Love stables. Perry didn't even like horses. Wally told her Carl had been to the service. He told her she could call him anytime. She said she loved him. He said he loved her and didn't know what he'd do without her. She decided she had to cancel the parties. He told her Grant needed the money. She gave in. She thinks maybe they can do something to show how much they loved Perry.
It seems Peter told Sally about Marley. She was sympathetic. He asked her not to tell anyone. She told him not to give up hope. He's scared. She said he could talk to her any time. Peter: I always could talk to you, Sally. And I know you're with Catlin--but I can't help feeling sorry that what we had didn't last. Sally: it wasn't meant to last, Peter. She told him she knew he'd find somebody. Sally hugged him as Aunt Liz appeared. He left. Liz: Sal, that is not going to solve anything. Sally: Aunt Liz, please, you don't understand. Liz: WHAT? WHAT? Sally: I don't want to talk about it. Liz: Well yes, you're right, I don't understand why you had your arms around him--Sally: I CAN'T talk about it. Liz: I KNEW Peter would be there the MINUTE there was any trouble between you and Catlin. Sally: That's NOT what he was doing. Liz: STOP DEFENDING PETER LOVE AND TRY TO SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE.
I've discovered Kathleen sent Cass SNAKES. He accused her of running away. And not trusting him or HERSELF ALONE WITH HIM. He galled her into staying. He said she didn't trust anyone and had ruined their relationship. She left and said she had a date at the Northwoods Inn. She said she'd do her best to get him out of her life permanently.
Larry is being sneaky in order to avoid the inside criminal cop. MJ told him he was being a jerk. Catlin hove into view and asked Larry and Clarice [in the form of Larry] to dinner. He declined. Catlin asked about Willa's murder. Larry snapped at him saying he weren't no cop no more and mind his own business. Catlin took offense and left.
Peter's mind is not with Kathleen although he's dining with her. Mr. Albertson arrived to be informed by Grant that Jamie Frame had no reservation and was not there. Albertson came all away from Chicago for this. He's upset. He recognized Peter and told him his woes in regard to being stood up by Jamie Frame. Peter saved the situation. Scum. He was so apologetic on Jamie's behalf.
Cass appeared to tell Kathleen he'd been invited to the mystery party and asked Daphne to be his date. He was obnoxious because she hadn't been invited.
Kevin told Sally she looked beautiful. He's not looking forward to staying with Billy. Liz is going out too and Alice has gone away. Everybody goes away. My mom and dad. Alice. Catlin. Sally told him Catlin was coming back and she'd never leave him. [I have suddenly got the conviction that Catlin will tell Sally that Brittany's wearing the same dress ...] Enter Catlin. He said Britt was outside and they had to go and apologized to Kevin for stealing Sally. Kevin wanted to see Brittany. Sally immediately told him he didn't have to stay with Billy. They'd stay home and she'd read him Hardy Boys. He was sent to put his pajamas on. Catlin asked what she was up to. She said Kevin needed her and he was a very important part of her life. Catlin said she just needed an excuse. Brittany came in and Kevin dashed in to see her. She gave him a book on sign language much to his delight. Sally told him to thank her [he did] and out of the other side of her mouth told Catlin get her out of there. Kevin begged to be allowed to show her his coin collection so Britt went with him. Sally: Does she want my son now too? Catlin: WHY are you acting like this? Sally: I don't want her in this house. I don't want her in KEVIN'S ROOM. Catlin: There's no reason for you feel threatened. Sally: I DON'T FEEL THREATENED BY HER. You know she may be deaf but she's got a lot of nerve. She gets along better with you and Kevin than I do. Catlin: WELL THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BRITTANY. Now are you coming? Sally: No. Catlin: WELL I HOPE YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND. Enter Britt and Kevin. The inn isn't far away. Come on. Exit Britt and Catlin. Kevin: Catlin didn't say good-bye. Sally: I guess he's upset. Kevin: Did you really change your mind? Sally: Yeah. Reading Hardy Boys is a lot more fun than going to the Northwoods Inn anyway. Kevin: If you changed your mind, then why are you sad?
Peter clinched the deal. Albertson adores him. He'll deal with him rather than Jamie now. Pretty soon he [Peter] will be Jamie Frame's boss said Fred. [Albertson]
Wallingford gave Kathleen her invitation and told her he had to give Cass who had been depressed and fearful of being invited not his. Kathleen suggested he give her Cass' and she'd see he got it. He refused. She convinced him. She said she'd make sure he got it.
Liz arrived at the inn. Catlin and Britt close on her heels. Catlin's speaking in this strange tight voice explaining Sally had decided to take care of Kevin instead and it was just the three of them. Then Larry and Clarice appeared to join the party. Liz said she didn't feel well and rushed off. Clarice suggested she and Larry leave but Larry wouldn't.
Wally was nice to Felicia. He gave her her invitation to the party. [Strange, she said, because she is the hostess.] "Ho ho ho" she said reading it "The plot thickens. "
Liz went to yell at Sally. She told her she'd look after Kevin and Sally was going to the Northwoods Inn. [Sally had been moping around looking at photographs of herself and Catlin I think.]
Catlin is not having a great time. He wants to call it a night and go home. He asked Britt if she'd mind. Larry ever the obnoxious older brother said HE minded. He said it was his treat. He ordered champagne. He's gone weird. He went to make a phone call. Catlin asked Clarice why Larry was weird. She doesn't know. She pursued him. Catlin asked Brittany if she were having a terrible time.
Somebody wants to talk to Larry. The captain wants to see MJ.
Kevin woke up and was surprised to see Aunt Liz. He wants to show her something. It was Brittany's book. Liz asked if Sally knew he had this -- present. Kevin said yes. He told her he liked Brittany. She told him he probably shouldn't get too friendly with her. He said Sally said it was okay to make friends. She said it was hard to lose them and she didn't think Britt would be in Bay City much longer.
Catlin: I'm glad you're happy Brittany. That's all I want for you. Enter Sally. Sally. You came. Sally: Yeah. Catlin: I love you. Who's taking care of Kevin? Sally: Aunt Liz. Catlin: So that's why she wanted to leave. [Pause during which it sounded like Brittany was signing with the cutlery hereafter signified by @] She wants to know what grade Kevin is in. Sally: Well, you can tell her that. Catlin: Why don't you tell her? Sally: First grade. Catlin: Sally and I love Kevin very much. Sally: The three of us are very happy together. @. Catlin: she doesn't understand. Sally: I wonder.
Felicia is hostess-CUM-guest of honor. Maybe the party giver was is Liberace said Felicia. Wallingford said it would be a helluva party especially since the Bickersons were invited.
Cass and Kathleen. She made him squirm for a bit when she told him she'd received the invitation this afternoon. Then she gave him his and said he'd been bluffing. He told her he'd be at the party tomorrow with Daphne and get the job. YOU'LL BE SORRY WHEN I WIN THE BET. Exit Cass.
I think Larry is maybe a little tipsy. [According to Catlin he's been seen drinking martinis. Buckets and buckets from the sound of it.] Clarice is trying to curb his boisterousness. Larry: Clarice, would you leave me alone? I'm trying to have a good time. Clarice: I know Larry, but this is not the night for it. Larry: Hey, SALLY. SALLY, you made it. Sally: Yeah, I did it. Larry: hm. Well, I hope you're cheerful. I'm getting a little tired of my brother here and my wife. Sally: I'm doing my best. Enter MJ. Larry: Oh, McKinnon, McKinnon, join the party. MJ: I can't Larry I'm here on business. Clarice: Is it about Dale? MJ: We haven't heard anything else, I'm sorry. I have to ask you to come with me to headquarters. Larry: What the hell for? Catlin: What's going on? MJ: Well, I can't talk about it here. Larry: Well, I'm not going. So you can takem OK and get out of here [?] Clarice: [sotto voce] Larry. PEOPLE ARE STARING. Larry: I don't care. MJ: you're not giving me any choice, Larry. Larry: Choice? What do you mean choice? I don't know what you're talking about. MJ: I'M SORRY LARRY YOU'RE UNDER ARREST.
