Nancy's working too hard. Vince broke it to her that Tony had been officially charged.
Adam made MJ and Val beat the press back. Tony was led through, appealing to Adam's better sense in desperation. Adam looked torn. Tony swooned. Adam felt his forehead and sent for Jamie.
The gang trekked through the jungle until they came to a fork in the road. Donna was disgustingly supportive. Everyone but Michael wanted to set up camp. Michael gave in. Felicia gave directions to the native bearers. Felicia: boys, why don't we set up the sleeping tents right over there and, I think, dining should be right here, OK? Mitch: what do you mean, dining? Felicia: DINING. We are going to eat, aren't we? Mitch: you can eat, but you don't DINE in the jungle. Felicia: Mitch, we don't have to live like the animals. Michael chafed at being put off an extra day. Donna soothed him.
Nancy was suddenly too bright. She avoided Rachel. Mary told Rachel she'd keep an eye on her. Rachel mentioned Mac's birthday was coming up. Enter Mac. He sees the error of his ways and regrets having employed a mass murderer. He's publishing an apology. Mac comforted Nancy.
Adam left the feeling of Tony's face to MJ and suggested aloofly that Tony might be faking it. [Let's give him a copy of Quentin Durward and see what he can do.] MJ doubted it. Jamie arrived and examined Tony. Tony came to calling for Nancy. Jamie rushed him to the examining room. Capt Delaney invited Adam and MJ into the office and asked what was up. Adam admitted he wasn't sure it felt right. He went to watch Jamie at work. Tony has high blood pressure [158/94] at the moment. Jamie told Adam to make Val remove the handcuffs. Adam gave in with bad grace. Adam ascertained that Tony had no history in his family of heart disease. He asked for an inch of Nitro paste and when told they had none complimented Adam on his Infirmary. Adam fiddled with the handcuffs. Jamie went to fetch some supplies. Capt Delaney told Adam to go see big Al immediately. Martin in the infirmary turned his back for a second and Tony phoned Mary's Place to tell Nancy he was innocent. Martin cut the call short.
Nancy was upset. Mac phoned Adam and found he was with the commissioner. Everyone comforted Nancy. Mac left. Rachel told Nancy and Mary she thought they should have a surprise party for Mac to take their minds off things. Mary's professor Chuckie phoned and put Vince's back up.
Contrary to all expectations, one can dine in the jungle. Felicia organized an impressive dinner. These people do not travel very light. Michael saw a shadow on the wall. Thinking it could be John he and Mitch ran out.
Tony and Martin argued. Martin was alarmed. He suggested Tony relax. Tony spotted a grate and pretended to pass out. When Martin leaned over he slugged him and made for the grate.
Michael and his men found a disoriented old soldier outside convinced he was leftover prisoner of war. Japanese. From WW II. They spoke Japanese a little. [No subtitles.] Dr Cheng took care of him.
MJ came looking for Adam. He returned at about the same time as Jamie. They found the door to the examining room locked and no sound inside. Adam kicked the door open and was distressed to see Martin's lifeless body. MJ made phone calls. Adam found Tony had escaped through the air vent. He was very annoyed that he had been forced to have a pointless chat with big Al at such an inopportune time. Martin proved not to be so very lifeless after all. MJ was not pleased to hear Tony had phoned Nancy.
Mary told Vince Chuckie was coming over to talk about her independent study project. He accused her of being naive enough to fall for any line Warren Beatty would throw out, even. She took offence. "LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING. If Warren Beatty called me up and asked me to see his etchings, I WOULD RACE HIM UP THE STAIRS." "This is what a college education is teaching you, to talk trashy?" "It didn't hurt Bette Midler." "Bette Midler has SENSE." The police summoned Nancy.
Donna said if only that night hadn't happened. If only she hadn't been angry with Michael. If only John hadn't been drinking. If only she hadn't been stupid. And Felicia did not tell her not to blame herself, or not to remove any of the responsibility from Johns head. She said merely IF ONLY never helped anyone and Michael would have to accept what had happened. Michael came in to say they hadn't found John. Everyone stood around saying they'd heard of other cases of old soldiers fighting long-peaced wars [failing to mention GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, which is my only source of information on this score]. Michael remembered he'd talked to a WW II vet, Japanese, in Singapore, who had kept saying things about coming from the rising sun. Good gosh, could the old soldier help with this rising sun parameter mumbo-jumbo? Mitch suggested an easterly connotation.
Dr Harris arrived at Mary's Place. Mary introduced him to Vince. He [Chuckie] recognized the [McKinnon] surname and asked if they were related. "DISTANTLY," she said swiftly and lured him to a table. Vince offered food. Chuckie asked about the specialité du jour. This started Vince off about coq au vin ["it's a little more vin than coq, but I think you'll like eet, hein?"] and escargot. Mary sent Chuckie to the table and dragged Vince into the kitchen. Vince explained himself. He said Chuckie was a phony and deserved to be mocked. He said he was just after her like everyone else. Mary asked what HE [Vince] wanted. He said he didn't want to see her taken advantage of. She told him she wanted coq au vin FOR TWO and presented him with a frying pan.
Adam and MJ suggested Nancy go into hiding. Rachel became unreasonable. This upset Adam. Big Al threatened to put someone else in charge of the task force. Jamie cruised in. He said a person couldn't manufacture blood pressure that high and Tony could have a stroke. Adam asked him to bring Lisa down. MJ told him to look at the computer. "hey, Cory... so sorry I ran, no time for goodbye... You know you won't catch me, no matter how hard you try." [I cannot have respect for Dr Glaser[i-mean-the-as-yet-unidentified serial killer] if he can't scan any better than that.] MJ looked grim.
Chuckie gazed deep into Mary's eyes and told her she could have her degree by June. They had no coq au vin. Vince provided burnt grilled cheese. He's got his accounting prof coming over in retaliation. Rachel and Nancy came in with a cop escorting them. Tony crept into the kitchen and, seeing the cop, crept out.
Michael's looking forward to catching his brother. He and Donna went to bed. Mitch and Felicia are sleeping on opposite sides of the same tent. She found out he'd never seen It Happened One Night and explained about the walls of Jericho separating the two beds, only Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert get married at the end. She pulled a quite diaphanous screen across. Mitch took off his shirt and got into bed. Felicia smiled oddly.
