Marley ran into Jake on her way out. He said he needed to talk to her. She flinched away from him but gave him an opportunity to speak.
Mary gave John the hospice contract. He was convinced she was playing a trick on him. She insisted she wasn't. He swung her around. She asked if he knew why Jason had missed the meeting. He said no and he hoped Jason had a hangover.
Ronnie told Jason to go home. He made her promise to call as soon as Mikey woke up. Matthew and Kevin and Tracy returned to the hospital. Ada yelled at Matthew.
Jamie told Sam temporary blindness was not uncommon. Amanda fainted suddenly. Sam was particularly worried because he couldn't see what the commotion was about. Mac and Rachel and Jamie led Amanda to the waiting room. Jamie arranged to have someone look at Amanda. It turned out Amanda had been neglecting to eat and sleep. Jamie told Amanda there was a good chance the blindness was temporary. Felicia comforted Rachel. Rachel said even temporary blindness was terrifying.
Mitch sat with Sam. Rachel came in and assured Sam Amanda was fine. She kissed him and held his hand comfortingly.
Matthew and the Julians told Ada what they'd done. Ada told Matthew he had a lot of explaining to do. Matthew promised to tell all. He hugged Ada delightedly when she said she would help.
Jake told Marley their love was too powerful to resist. She thought it more likely that they had loved the drama — Romeo and Juliet, princess and stranger. He grabbed her and tried to kiss her. She fought him off. He told her she was wrong about everything. This time he managed to kiss her. She pulled away eventually. He told her he would always love her and slid her down onto the floor.
John told Mary now he had a reason to break away from Jason. She was about to tell him why he shouldn't when she got called away. Exit Mary. Enter Jason. John yelled at Jason for missing the board meeting. Mary and Ronnie came in. Ronnie told John Jason had saved Mikey's life. John forgave Jason. Mary and Jason were left alone. Jason said if the vote had been unanimous [as John had said] Mary must have voted for them. Mary said she'd followed the board's lead because she believed in John despite her personal and professional reservations about Jason. Jason asked how come she could forgive everyone but him.
John invited Burt back. Burt was delighted. A blonde from the PR department of the hospital came to take their photo.
Mac told Ronnie he wanted to pay Sam's hospital bill and to arrange for a private room for him. She told him to talk to the business department. Mac wandered off. Zack came up looking for him and approached Ronnie at the desk to try to find out where back had got to. Although Ronnie was talking on the phone, Zack obviously considered that he was more important and insisted that she neglect the phone to attend to him. I cannot begin to describe how obnoxious he was. Ronnie was not inclined to help him find Mac. She is busy. She refused to page Mac. Exit Ronnie. Enter Mac. Zack did his emergency business and complained about Ronnie. Mac was surprised there was anything to complain about. Exit Zack. Enter Ada and Matthew. Ada told Mac they needed Rachel so Matthew could confess. Rachel was summoned, along with Mitch and Felicia. Rachel was not particularly pleased by the confession.
Mary and Jason told John they didn't want Mikey to go to strangers. John heard helicopters. Jason dragged him off to celebrate.
AFTERWARDS Marley wept. Jake told her he loved her. She ran upstairs wrapped in a sheet and her hair hanging loose.
John and Jason found Mary's Place empty. Cheryl brought coffee. Jason ordered one of everything. They deplored the state of a world full of intelligent women with opinions who don't want to be treated as objects. Matthew and the Julians came in. Kevin made a beeline for Cheryl. Tracy thanked Matthew for saving her. They gazed into each other's eyes. Kevin and Cheryl talked about Leave it to Beaver.
Zack had another run-in with Ronnie, but this time they sort of patched it up when she admitted being tired. [Zack never once admitted being rude, incidentally.] He offered to drive her home. She refused. He found Mac. She shoved a wig into her bag furtively. Enter Rachel. Exit Zack. Rachel asked Mac what was wrong. Mac assured her everything was fine.
Amanda relieved Mitch on the hand-holding vigil.
Marley came back down with her hair back up. Jake told her they loved each other. She told him she wanted to forgive him but she couldn't.
Mac assured Rachel family took precedence over business.
Amanda told Sam the baby was fine. He told her everything would be fine because there was just no way she would have a baby he couldn't see.
