Adam and MJ's wedding reception is to be at Tops. Mary made plans with Felicia, who was abstracted. Mary thought she was crazy. Felicia began extolling the virtues of San Francisco. When she mentioned Mitch in relation to it, Mary clued in.
Chad toyed with his coffee (Sara said the only amusing thing she's said in months: "Are you just going to stare at that, or are you going to give the caffeine a fighting chance?") and refused all nourishment. MJ bounded downstairs and began chatting loudly with Vince and Ada about Adam. Ada brandished her invitation (which name MJ more or less correctly as MICHAEL JOSEPH. I was pleased.) Chad wilted. Sara tried to take his mind off it.
Bridget served Michael and Donna breakfast. Peter rolled in and began telling Michael about John. When John appeared Peter took the opportunity to whisper to Donna that he wouldn't tell Michael she'd been at Tops with John last night. Molly came in and plunked herself immediately in John's lap. Molly was introduced around. Michael suggested Donna do something with Molly, like go shopping. Donna suggested they go on a double date. Molly said John had muttered in his sleep about some other woman. Peter was interested. Molly is a long-distance telephone operator and it gives her a great sense of accomplishment. She had to leave for her shift. John walked her to the door. Michael and Peter made Remarks.
When Ada said she'd like to bring Cap'n Delaney along Vince and MJ teased her unmercifully. Adam crept up behind MJ and joined in the kidding. Sara insisted on taking Chad for a walk. She went into the kitchen. MJ approached Chad and suggested he spare himself and stop hanging around Mary's Place. She told him she was marrying Adam and there was nothing he could do about it. He left. Adam came up and asked MJ what was going on.
Felicia denied everything. Mary didn't believe her. Felicia retaliated by prying about Vince. Mary became defensive. They laughed at each other. Felicia: We're pretty lousy liars. Mary: How did we get INTO this mess? Felicia: How do we get out of it?
Jamie arrived at Mary's Place to talk about Lisa. Everyone assured him she'd be okay. Adam took him aside and explained that he and Neal didn't get along and asked him to be his best man.
Donna bitched about "the Barbie-doll cutout". Peter was suspiciously nice to Michael. He pretended alliance to the Hudson family. He mentioned that he and That Old Carrot were trying to acquire a shipping line. John recognised the name and informed Peter that the guy in charge of it was extremely crooked. Peter took note and left. Michael warned John that Peter used people. (Donna: I hate to admit it, John, but Michael's right. I just died. This is so sickeningly backward it's almost funny.) John expressed a desire to visit Mom. Michael went to answer the phone. Donna requested John not bring his one-night stands back to Michael's office. He made some remark about her and Michael carrying on in the stables.
Jamie was delighted to oblige. MJ told him to make sure Adam showed up. Adam expressed no reluctance. He cudgelled his brains trying to think of a way to help Jamie with Lisa, but Jamie didn't think she'd be able to talk to him either. Jamie left. Adam and MJ went to check up on Mary. Diane showed up and tempted Vince with summer concert tickets. (They seem to have been members for years, in spite of Vince's random employment in distant states. Go figure.) Vince fell.
Felicia asked Mary to help her do something with her show about victims to see if she could help Lisa subtly. Mary was thrilled. Peter came up and more or less broadcast the fact that Donna appeared to be jealous of a woman in a pink leather mini-dress. Peggy was interested. Felicia pounced on Chad. Mary tried to stop her, but Felicia rushed right ahead and asked him to help organise MJ's wedding. Chad very graciously agreed to help. When Felicia rushed off, Mary told Chad that she knew about him and MJ and he didn't have to do this. Chad said it didn't matter. Mary told him he had to accept the fact that MJ was marrying Adam or else he'd grow up to be bitter and resentful and did he want that?
Clara insisted on being allowed to move back to the farm. Michael couldn't budge her. She asked what was wrong with John that he didn't come to see her. Enter John and Jamie. Clara asked why the sunglasses. John got everyone to leave so he could talk to Mom alone. She asked what was wrong. He told her he was blind. Clara was upset. John made light of it. Clara demanded to know what had caused the accident. She said it had something to do with Donna.
Diane asked about Mary. Vince explained that they weren't sleeping together. Diane asked why not. Vince said vaguely that things had changed. Diane didn't believe him. I think she gave him the concert tickets for him and Mary.
Chad told Mary he wasn't in love with MJ any more. She apologised for being out of line and for suspecting him of being the Stalker. They discussed bands. Peter told Peggy he was convinced that That Old Carrot knew more than he was telling about Donna and John.
Chad went out to the roof to brood about MJ. Sara followed him. He was peeved. She insisted on giving him a massage. Suddenly, in one of the klutziest moves ever seen on daytime television, he pulled her around onto his naked chest and kissed her. She pulled away. He was mildly surprised. Sara explained that she was starting to like him a lot and he didn't need to hear that. Sara fled. Chad seemed perplexed.
Vince talked to Ada about the frustration of living with Mary. Living in limbo. Ada advised him to 'eat dinner or get out of the restaurant.'
John told the lighthouse story. He told his mother he didn't have Those Feelings for Donna any more. Clara dropped it.
Chad thought about the first time he'd taken MJ to Tar Beach and soothed her virgin fears. Felicia and Mary and MJ tripped over him, planning the reception. MJ was unnerved. She decided against having any of the reception up there. They went back in.
Clara told Michael and Donna not to keep things from her any more. She's being released. Michael told her he wanted her to live with them. Clara changed her mind in order to keep an eye on John.
