ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

December 21, 1987

Rachel was abstracted. Mitch was unreasonable. Cass insisted they talk. Nicole dashed up to invite Mitch to come to Europe.

Jamie's manner alarmed Chad. He said he wanted to rerun tests and ask more questions. About the blood transfusion and the donating mother's lifestyle.

Sam and Cheryl were oblivious to Amanda for a while. When Julie Ann asked Amanda if she wanted to leave, Cheryl perceived her and introduced her to Sam. They admitted they were acquainted. Julie Ann dragged Cheryl off. Sam let Amanda know there was nothing between him and Cheryl. Amanda was unreasonable. Vicky fidgeted, thinking the party would be improved by Jamie's presence. Adam's on to her.

Chad said his mother had nothing to do with it. Scott tried to get him to see reason. Jamie started in about intravenous drug use and the "lifestyle." Chad admitted she'd been a prostitute. Jamie ran off to the lab. Chad thought he didn't know what he was doing. Scott looked as if he might comprehend the situation. Leastaways, he looked very distressed.

Mac took Rachel out on the terrace. Felicia was not pleased with Nicole. Mitch said he'd think about covering the fashion show. Nicole took Cass aside to discuss commentators. She looked unhappy when he said he'd asked Felicia. Felicia tried to talk Mitch out of talking to Cass. Mac perceived that Rachel would rather not go to New York and agreed to take her home to discuss it.

Lisa opened gifts. Sam refused to dance with Cheryl. She coaxed. He gave in. Amanda refused a drink. When Cheryl excused herself Amanda approached Sam and said she had to talk to him.

Nicole talked PR. Cass fled, having collected Mitch. Felicia brooded. Nicole told her she could see the differences between Cass and Rex. Cass is so sensitive. Too bad about Kathleen.

Cass has forgotten that he slept with Felicia in order to get or keep her business in his publishing company, and that they had an acrimonious breakup [involving a grapefruit, I am told. Acrimonious in the extreme]. Mitch asked Cass what he was up to. Cass said he wasn't up to anything. Mitch accused him of using Felicia and risking her life. Cass said he was leaning on Felicia a little because she understood about Kathleen. Nicole came in as he said he didn't want anything to do with another woman.

Chad stared into Dawn's room. Scott thought about telling Dawn he loved her. Jamie came out and said Dawn had pneumonia. Scott and Chad were relieved. Jamie was forced to admit it was better than pneumonia. The positive result of the ELISA test puzzled him until he found out that the blood donor mother had been high risk. The backup western blot confirmed the ELISA. Dawn has AIDS.

Amanda convinced Sam to talk privately with her. He said she could meet him at his loft later. Rachel phoned to discuss who had been told. Although Amanda would have liked her to put it off, she said Mac had the right to know. Mac overheard.

Rachel told Mac she would tell him at home. They passed Cass and Mitch and Nicole in the elevator. Cass rushed Nicole outside. Mitch made cryptic remarks.

Nicole offered to share her fur with Cass. Cass told her he was avoiding Mitch. She asked wistfully if he really thought he could never love again. He was pretty definite.

Chad refused to believe it. He kept saying girls like Dawn didn't get AIDS. He wanted another doctor. Scott calmed him down. Jamie said Dawn had insisted he talk to them. She wouldn't listen. Chad suggested she didn't have to know. Jamie and Scott ranged themselves against him. Chad deflated. Scott went for a walk. Chad said he couldn't understand it, Dawn had never hurt anyone. Jamie said most people who got AIDS hadn't. Chad went for a walk. Jamie phoned Lisa to be frustrated about the fact that he's helpless.

Mac grew impatient. Rachel asked him to sit down. She began by saying she accepted full responsibility.

Chad tried again to convince Scott and Jamie they didn't need to tell Dawn. He was overcome. Chad blamed himself and his mother for sullying Dawn.

Adam and Lisa kidded around a little after the rest of the party went home. Vicky saw a promise. Jamie phoned to say he wouldn't be home. Vicky took the message and passed on that but not that he'd said he loved her. Adam and Lisa thought something was lacking in Jamie.

Mitch apologized to Felicia. Felicia was pleased. Cass and Nicole came back in. He said goodnight and left. Her eyes followed him longingly.

Jamie and Scott and Chad gathered around Dawn's bed. She kidded about being able to cough and play Camille. She suggested a trip to New York for next year. Chad burst into tears and ran out. Dawn doesn't realize how serious it is.

Rachel told Mac Amanda loved Sam but he wanted nothing to do with her. Mac was upset when he heard they'd been lovers and Sam had dumped her anyway. Rachel said Amanda was pregnant.

Amanda stopped by Sam's. He made her tea. She led up to what she had to say.
