ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

June 19, 1985

Kathleen in a black sequined dress came upon MJ in the kitchen. Kathleen: MJ, you're supposed to DICE carrots, not PULVERIZE them. MJ: WHAT IS THIS, CRITIQUE OF COOKING? Kathleen: I'm sorry, you just seem a little tense lately. Isn't everything okay with Jamie? MJ: FINE, fine. Fine. Kathleen: Well, what about work? Wait, wait, that is a dangerous weapon you've got there. MJ: You're right. They're small enough. Oh, look at you. Kathleen: Tell the truth: what do you think? MJ: I think it cost a fortune. Where are you going? Kathleen: Oh, nowhere, I thought I'd stay home and dice carrots with you. MJ: Come on McKinnon, out with it, who is the lucky man? Kathleen: Oh it's not really a man, it's just Cass. MJ: You're dating Cass? Kathleen: NO, MJ, this is NOT a date, definitely not a date. MJ: You dress like that and it's not a date? Aha. Kathleen got on the phone. Cass: Good evening, Cass Winthrop. Kathleen: Hello, Mr. Winthrop, this is Ms. McKinnon. Cass: Well, hello Ms. McKinnon, what can I do for you? Kathleen: I just wanted to know if you were all set for our meeting with Daphne tonight. Cass: I am completely set, and yourself? Kathleen: Oh, I am very much looking forward to it. I just thought I'd call and wish you luck. Cass: Why thank you, same to you. May the best man win. Kathleen: Oh, don't worry. She will.

Daphne isn't really in town but Felicia told Cass and Kathleen she wanted a meeting with them to suit her purpose. She insists her plan is foolproof.

They're flying Dr. Wakefield (a specialist) in from Atlanta for Marley. Dr. Edwards is not hopeful but Donna insists that Marley is going to live. She won't let her die. She sent Jake to tell a nurse she wanted to see Marley.

Sally's grateful to Brittany. She told Catlin so. He's wandering about on one very large crutch. He wanted her to go home to eat (she hasn't all day) but she didn't want to leave Kevin. He's asleep so they compromised: she'll go to the cafeteria. He said he'd go with her and they left. Brittany slipped into the room and looked fondly at sleeping Kevin.

Donna spoke encouraging words to Marley about the specialist. Marley woke up and whimpered about the voice in the closet. Donna told her to rest.

Vic said Donna loves Marley very much. She doubts she'll love her that much.

MJ rebuked Kathleen for playing games with Cass. Kathleen attacked her for attacking her as being the one at fault because she was the woman. MJ said she wasn't singling her out she thought they were BOTH foolish. Kathleen raved about how qualified she was and how conceited Cass was. MJ accused her (them) of having personal problems masquerading as professional ones. Kathleen brought up Jamie. MJ went back to her carrots. Kathleen left and met Jamie on his way in bearing flowers. MJ whirled around upon his entrance with knife raised. MJ: Jamie you shouldn't sneak up on me like that. Jamie: What's the matter with you? This is like bringing flowers to Norman Bates. (My heart is won.)

Brittany told (sleeping) Kevin all about how upset she'd been when she'd heard he was missing and that she'd lost her little boy Evan. "So I can understand what your mama was going through. And Catlin too. I don't know what Catlin would'a' done if he'd lost you too. I figure it's kind of my fault you ran away. I messed things up between you and Catlin and Sally. But you see I love Catlin and I've been selfish 'cause I wanted him back and I didn't care about everybody else. Then when you ran away I SAW that I was hurting people. So now I'm changing. Kevin from now on you're going to be happy. I promise."

Vic talked about how she'd come to get even with Marley and now she was crying for her. What if she dies? She'll never even know Vic existed. She wonders if Marley ever felt like a twin. Vic does so much it hurts. She doesn't think she's really a part of the Love family. She asked Jake to take her home. He remained staring at Marley a little too long for her liking. They left.

Jamie: Hey, I'm sorry I snuck up on you. MJ: It's all right. You just scared me. Jamie: I said I was sorry. How'd I know you'd be wielding a knife? MJ: I was not WIELDING a knife I was -- chopping vegetables. Jamie: Yeah well you almost chopped off my head. I would've ended up a vegetable myself. MJ: Who is Norman Bates? Jamie: Tony Perkins, Psycho. MJ: I guess you say that to all the girls. Jamie: No, just you. He asked what was wrong. She didn't want to talk about it. He wants to be there for her like she was for him when Rachel was poorly. She said she couldn't tell him now. He said he wasn't leaving until she did.

Felicia and Wally and Lily are manning their battle stations. Lily is s'posed to sing love songs. Grant doesn't know everything but he disapproves. Felicia took Cass and Kathleen to "Daphne's meeting room".

Bridget prayed for Marley. Enter Jake reporting that Vic was taking it pretty hard. All they can do is wait. Vic's resting. She wants hot chocolate. Jake thinks she's crazed and she might screw up though Donna and Peter like her. Bridget said Vic needed him [Jake] and her [Bridget].

Cass and Kathleen were impressed with Daphne's spread. Felicia & Wally left locking the door. Kathleen laughed. Cass: What's so funny? Kathleen: Us. Here. Alone. Cass: Kathleen, the two of us alone together is not funny, TRAGIC is more like it. Kathleen: Don't you remember this place? Cass: No. Should I? Kathleen: You SHOULD, but I'm not surprised you don't. You brought me here to seduce me. Cass: I'm not that kind of guy Kathleen. Kathleen: Oh, Cass. I would LOVE to see you change but I doubt seriously you would EVER change that much. I'm sure you've brought plenty of people here before. Cass: Before what? Kathleen: before me. And after me. Cass: I don't recall. Kathleen: You mean there's one room in the Northwoods Inn where Cass Winthrop didn't get lucky? Cass: Kathleen if I was here -- and according to you I was -- LUCK had nothing to do with it. Kathleen: Oh? Cass: no. Charm, élan, animal magnetism yes. They realized the table was set for two and that didn't account for Daphne. So Cass went to tell Felicia and found the door locked. Kathleen found the room with the bed and its windows nailed shut. They clued in to Felicia's devious plot.

Catlin and Sally returned to Kevin's room. Sally (not unhinged) wants to talk to Britt. Alone. They went elsewhere and Britt apologized for interfering. Sally said she'd saved Kevin's life and she didn't know what she would have done if anything had happened to him. Britt said she didn't have to explain and after she'd lost Evan she thought she'd go out of her mind. Sally said she wished she could repay her. Britt said she could let her be Kevin's friend. Sally said he'd like that. Britt said she knew things had been rough on her and Catlin since she'd come to town but she'd just naturally figured when she found out he was alive and in Bay City that they'd get back together. Sally told her she still didn't know what was going to happen. Britt said she did and Catlin was obviously in love with her [Sally] although it had taken her [Britt] a long time to admit to herself. She said she knew finally and left with Sally trying to call her back as Catlin hove into view on his crutch.

Cass pounded on the door. Threatening Felicia. Kathleen ate caviar. She's not completely unthrilled. They found a note from Felicia saying romance was in the air. Cass: Right now I would prefer a little fresh air in the air but the windows are NAILED SHUT. Kathleen: Hey, I am not thrilled to be here either but like it or not WE ARE HERE. Cass: I DON'T LIKE IT. Kathleen: You are so suave. Cass: Oh, aren't I though. Kathleen: Yeah, you should've joined the diplomatic corps. They would've assigned you to a war-torn country. Cass: You would've tried to take that job away from me too. Kathleen: I would've gotten it, too. Felicia's voice came over a speaker announcing to the restaurant that Lily would be singing and no one would be permitted to leave until they had all fallen in love. Kathleen says they'll be in there a long time. They decided to eat. He didn't hold out her chair and said ungraciously "Do you want some of this stuff?" Kathleen said in a wonderfully trashy voice "You know that's what I like about you Cass, you got so much class."

MJ told someone on the phone she'd be there if he/she needed her. She apologized to Jamie for having been so long on the phone. He asked who it was. She said merely a friend. He said it sounded serious and was she in some kind of trouble? She said she couldn't tell him. He pressed her. He said he was worried about her and he didn't like her to shut him out. She said primly she was not at liberty to discuss certain professional matters with him. He said he loved her. She said she knew. He wants to help her. He loves her and he doesn't want to lose her. He told her to take care of herself. She said she would. He made as if to go but she said "Jamie Jamie Jamie please don't go right now I need you to hold me." he stayed.

Vic is worried. She carried on to Bridget and Jake about how everything was always MARLEY and she was living in Marley Love's house wearing Marley Love's clothes. Jake told her to calm down. She asked what would happen to her if Marley died. Bridget told her Marley wouldn't die. Vic persisted and said she would only serve as a reminder.

Lily's In the Mood for Love. She took a 15 minute break. Grant told her he didn't think folk could force people to fall in love. She said they weren't forcing them, just giving them a little push. She sang further.

Kathleen: You know, if you look at this objectively, I think Felicia is being kind. Cass: I don't want to look at this objectively. Kathleen: She cannot stand seeing us constantly at each other's throats. Cass: So what does she do, huh? She locks us in a room together. Kathleen: I said she was being kind, not brilliant. Cass: Try STUPID. Kathleen: I never use that word. It's a dumb word. Besides it's an insult to Felicia. Cass: Felicia basically has no common sense. Good intentions yes but she has no real understanding of our situation. Kathleen: Just like you and me. Cass: KATHLEEN. You and I understood that we weren't working out, we had the good sense to admit it. Felicia, on the other hand--Kathleen: Is SWEET. Cass: oh--Kathleen: she IS sweet. Look, Cass, we are adults -- well, at least, I'm an adult--and as adults I think we are capable of friendship. Cass: What are you getting at Kathleen? Kathleen: I think all Felicia wants is to see us -- friendly with each other. Cass: Oh, PLEASE. Caviar. Champagne. Romantic music piped into the room. Oh ho ho. No. Friends -- a bottle of beer and a bologna sandwich. Kathleen: FORGET what Felicia wanted for this evening just for a minute. Cass: Felicia Gallant is a ROMANCE NOVELIST. Fiction. She expects everything to have a happy ending. Kathleen: What do you want? I think that's the question. Cass: Kathleen, you and I and Felicia have to realize that our relationship is OVER. We are totally wrong for each other. Kathleen: I agree. Cass: You DO? Kathleen: Yes. I mean my career is just too important--Cass: I want to play the field -- I -- Kathleen: I don't know why we ever fell for each other in the first place--Cass: I want to have some fun. A complete mismatch. Kathleen: I mean how could I ever fall in love with a guy who dresses like a woman? Cass: You're too staid, you know, Kathleen, you're not the adventuresome type. Kathleen: You're so VAIN and CONCEITED and OBNOXIOUS. Cass: You always brought out the worst in me. Kathleen: DESSERT? (plunking his share viciously in front of him. ) Cass: (plunking it back) I LOATHE strawberries and cream. Kathleen: I LOVE them. You know it's amazing we have ACCIDENTALLY nothing in common. Cass: Well I'm glad we realize it. Now let's hope Felicia does. She plunked his strawberries back in front of him.

Catlin: Brittany just stormed out of here. What happened? Sally: We had a talk. She seems to think you and I belong together. Catlin: Why does that surprise you? Sally: Don't you think she's giving in all of a sudden? Catlin: No, it's not all of a sudden. It's taken her a while to accept that I want to be with you. It may seem sudden but it's been going on for quite a while. Sally: Well I hope you're right. Catlin: There's one thing that you and I have proved to each other over and over again. Sally: What's that? Catlin: That we can get through anything. Don't worry about Brittany anymore. Sally: You know what? I won't. Catlin: Because YOU are MINE. Kissing. Sally: Well what would I ever do without you? Catlin: Oh, probably go crazy. Kissing. [Ed. note: Catlin though incapacitated is permitted to wear his shirt.]

Donna worrying about Marley.

Vic asked Bridget to leave her and Jake alone. She said she needs him. She's scared. WHAT IF SHE DIES. She asked him to hold her and promise he'd never stop loving her. He held her and said nothing.

Donna talked to Dr. Edwards and Dr. Wakefield about Marley. They're not hopeful. She has absolutely no white cell count -- that's about 5000 short of normal. She's very weak. If she doesn't start producing white blood cells she'll die. They're doing all they can. There's not enough time to get another specialist. If she doesn't straighten up within 24 hours it's all over. Donna insists she has to get better.

Felicia proposed a toast to Kathleen and Cass -- may the love that they rediscovered tonight last forever and a day. Wally said the day would be a miracle. Felicia deplores his pessimism. Wally: Well you seem awfully certain that Cass and Kathleen are going to fall in love with each other all over again. Felicia: Again? No, they've never stopped being in love. Wally: Funny, I counted at least three times they stopped dead in their tracks. Felicia: No, no. They're still trying to find each other. Wally: Maybe right now they're finding out very slowly that they don't even LIKE each other. Felicia: WALLINGFORD, this isn't like you, you're usually so optimistic about things. Wally: I know I am Felicia but I still don't know why you're so certain that this plan of yours is going to work. Felicia: Honey, when a man and woman close themselves off from the rest of the world and spend a few very important hours together believe me it can turn in their whole lives around. She's convinced that Cass and Kathleen will work things out. He was brought around. They toasted to happy endings.

Cass and Kathleen realized that they would be locked up all night. He insisted she take the one bed and he would pull two chairs together. She was reluctant. She gave in. She thanked him for a lovely evening. She said she'd had fun and it was different. He said he guessed it was and it wasn't often he was held hostage with a beautiful -- she said what? eagerly and he said hastily with beautiful music. Goodnight Lily he said disconnecting the speaker. And then more kindly goodnight Kathleen. She said good night Cass and went into the bedroom. He made himself comfortable on his chairs (ha!) and muttered things about Felicia. Eventually he got up and knocked on Kathleen's door. Who is it? She said. Oh who do you THINK it is he said. It's me. He said the chairs were impossible. She said she would sleep on them then and appeared in some form of intimate apparel provided by Felicia. She too found the chairs intolerable. He decided they could share the bed without any serious problems. She agreed. They went into the bedroom. She got into bed. He undressed (how much I could not say). Felicia had not provided him with pajamas. Goodnight Cass. Goodnight Kathleen. She asked if he were tired. He said very. She said she was exhausted. One supposes they're going to make some semblance of going to sleep.
