ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

June 18, 1987

Michael made businesslike noises. John hobbled in. Michael asked about the walk down to the docks. John said lightly he didn't want to talk about it. Donna appeared. Michael asked her what had gone on.

MJ and Adam put in an appearance at the McKinnon house. MJ smelled paint. Adam smelled pot roast. Both were right. MJ and Adam looked very pleased with themselves. Adam asked Vince and Mary for permission to marry their daughter. (I don't have time to stop for a tirade now, but this is too cute. They HAVE been carrying on something awful for six months, and engaged for about four. I am against asking anyone's permission to marry someone else. (Some rules may not apply in divorce cases.))

Lisa is chipper enough to kid around. She insisted on being allowed to work. Felicia tried to coddle her, but Lisa was very firm. Mitch took her side. (He said that Lisa could write cheques to pay bills. "Wally does it, it can't be that hard." Wally thanked him.) Felicia gave in.

Vince interrogated Adam. After asking what sounded like several embarrassing personal questions, he gave his and Mary's blessing. Everyone fell on Adam's neck. MJ was thrilled to hear Kathleen and Cass would be home for the wedding. Vince said he wasn't losing a daughter, he was gaining a cop.

John and Donna made light of the affair. John and Michael argued about capitalism. Donna asked Michael if he wanted to have dinner at Tops. She made him phone for a reservation so she could whisper to John that they needed to talk later. Donna left when Michael came back. John informed Michael that they had never been a team. They aren't Wally and the Beav. Michael said they weren't Cain and Abel, either. He said that sometimes trying to chat with him was like trying to discuss the White Sox with the Ayatollah. John doesn't want to have deep meaningful discussions. Michael offered him a rotten job. John refused. Michael suggested they learn to get along. Michael: Dinner. How about dinner? We'll have dinner together, okay? I'll tell you what, we'll start small. Appetizer. We'll have an appetizer, and you can be civil during the appetizer, and once we get to the main course you can be sullen. John: You gonna take me to Tops? Michael: Yeah. You gotta get dressed up, though. Have you got a tie? John: Yeah, as a matter of fact I do. It's a yellow and chartreuse tie with some dancing hula girls on it. It's kinda nice. I like it. Michael: It's perfect. John: O kay. Michael: 've you got a vest? Michael assured him he was taking him on the Ugly Bridesmaid Principle, and if he didn't enjoy himself he'd rearrange all his bedroom furniture and not tell him where he put it.

When Vince began to make objectionable wedding plans, Adam took him out to get him measured for a tuxedo. MJ was pleased. Vince was convinced. They left. MJ seems to have forgotten that she is the McKinnon who can cook. She ran into Chad outside when Mary leaned into the oven. Chad told Mary he was looking for Cheryl about a modelling job. Cheryl's out with Becky. He asked to talk to MJ. Mary left them alone. Chad said he'd overheard MJ was still planning to go through with That. MJ said there was no reason not to. Chad chose to rub in the fact that he had retrieved the incriminating tape for her. In fact he provided it, all naked in a bag, and said it could still be viewed thus disrobed, and he had the power to put a major spoke in her wheel. (Oh, RIGHT. This would be the point where I would fling myself into Chad's arms and promise to love him eternally. I'll bet it's in Chapter I of the famous How to Win Friends and Influence People.)

Michael and Donna and John arrived. The tie fit the description, all right. Felicia and Mitch and Wally all rolled up to chat (and be introduced, at least Wally).

MJ trembled ever so slightly and told Chad it wouldn't do him any good if he did prevent her from marrying Adam. Chad relaxed and said he wouldn't do it anyway, he'd brought it so they could burn it together. He reminded her that he'd stolen the tape so she could breathe easily, and he wouldn't give up the hope of reclaiming her for his own. MJ very firmly told him there was no hope. He insisted she loved him. She denied it. He said he'd believe that when she married Adam. Mary returned to break it up. Chad left. MJ kind of sobbed.

Wally got a call from Mac about the impending bachelor party for Adam. He informed Michael of it. Felicia made Michael help Wally get a case of champagne to give Donna the opportunity to talk to John. Donna told John she was afraid of Dr Glaser. Michael returned before John could suggest anything useful. Jamie phoned and talked to Felicia. Apparently Lisa had left without telling him. She told Felicia she couldn't talk to him now but she'd call later. Felicia hated putting Jamie off. She assured Lisa that Jamie loved her and would help her through this. Jamie phoned again to say he was coming over. Michael was capitalistic on the phone. Wallingford and John have a lady bartender in Manila in common. Donna and Michael left John drinking strong drinks.

MJ told Mary she was scared. Mary was willing to listen. MJ told her she had fallen in love with Chad a long time ago and he still loved her but she didn't love him any more. MJ said that Chad was really bad for her and Adam was everything she wanted in a man. Mary hesitated to advise her but she did say she shouldn't deny any feelings she might have with the intention of doing the smart thing. MJ burst into tears and said she loved Adam and needed Adam and wanted Adam. Mary comforted her. Enter Adam. Mary snapped at him. Adam was concerned. Mary explained that brides were prone to irrational tears and stomped off to yell at the people who had failed to deliver the new kitchen table. Vince followed because she yells so well. MJ assured Adam she was more than okay. Kissing.

Michael apologised to Donna for ruining dinner. She assured him she didn't mind. She convinced him they had time to fool around before the bachelor party.

John and Wally got very drunk and used up a lot of little umbrellas. Wally assured John that his not being able to see shouldn't handicap him where women were concerned. Wally laughed a lot and said some people thought he had a handicap. John said he thought his biggest handicap was his tie. Felicia and Mitch had a fight I didn't understand and he stomped out. (I think it had something to do with her worrying about Lisa and not realising he wanted to be there for her [Felicia]) so she phoned security and told them he'd stolen all her jewellery.
