Larry tried to convince Sandy to find out things about Carl to help his family. Sandy was on the verge of complying when Carl walked in so he yelled at Larry instead. Larry told Carl he was going to get him for Clarice and it would be sweet. Carl said, "I don't wish to be rude, Lieutenant, but you're such a stupid man." Larry was not fazed. He told Carl, "Wherever you go, I go. The only place you'll be going alone is to hell."
Kathleen: Yours is a fake. Cass: Well, for eight dollars I didn't expect a designer original. Kathleen: Eight? Mine cost ninety. Cass: You elitist. What can I tell you? Krystle enjoys shopping at discount places. Have you got the contract there for Reynolds? Kathleen: Right her in my bag. Cass: I can't believe we've sunk to this. Kathleen: Well, have you got any better ideas? Cass: Reynolds can barely write his own name let alone a novel. Kathleen: That's all he needs. His name. Cass: Winthrop Publishing has always had some integrity in the past. Kathleen: Winthrop Publishing has always had money in the past. Look, Reynolds is dying to be published, and he's willing to pay through the teeth (shouldn't that be nose?) for it. Now it's not unheard of. Many publishers accept that kind of a deal. Cass: Not reputable ones. Kathleen: Well, we can get our repute back later. Right now we need the cash. (Enter Wallingford.) Wallingford: Hiya, kids. Cass: Knock, knock, Who is it? Oh, hullo Wallingford, won't you come in? Wallingford: What's with him? Kathleen: Oh, he's suffering from an identity crisis, y'know, Cass, K-k-krystle, C-cass. It's enough to turn a girl's head. (What?) My my my look at the time. She left to meet Reynolds. Wallingford: You're one lucky man, Krystle. Cass: How do you figure that? Is it this luxurious penthouse that I'm living in here? Or is it the fact that I'm entitled to dress up as a woman in order to get out of here so that Tony the Tuna doesn't break me into tiny little pieces. How am I lucky? I'll let you count the ways. Wallingford: Number one, Kathleen. Cass: Oh. Well she hasn't been very lucky either, has she? Wallingford: No, she hasn't. Cass: All right, so I'm responsible for getting her into this mess. But she could've gotten out at any time. Wallingford: But she didn't. Cass: No, because we can turn this thing around. Wallingford: She's gone to bat for you so often and you don't treat her right, Cass. Kathleen is one swell dame. Cass: I know that. Wallingford: Do you? Cass: Where are my socks? It seems Kathleen has taken Cass' purse instead of hers. Wallingford went after her. Cass found a pawn ticket in the purse. He called the pawnshop and found out what she pawned. He said it was incredible what she'd done for the company and Wallingford said (in essence) bosh. She did it for you. Cass made no reply to that. Suddenly Cass: Wallingford, you're taking Krystle to lunch at Tallboys.
Jamie's been released. Rachel doesn't understand why Sandy signed the complaint against him. The police found nothing at Rachel's weird house. Larry wants to get Carl. So does Mac. Larry says he [Carl] is a psychopath. Mac has no idea why Carl is trying to hurt him.
Liz is visiting Ada. She told Ada about the cabin. She wants her to come with her to check it out. Ada wants her to find someone who knows all about the sort of things folks should know about when purchasing weird cabins. Brian came (and posed strikingly in the doorway as he complimented them).
Jamie returned to the Corys'. Rachel's upset. Jamie told them nothing. At least nothing true. Mac and Rachel and the kids are going for a sleigh ride. Jamie called Sandy. Blaine caught him.
Kathleen tried to convince Reynolds to publish with them. Dialogue that really hit home: "Please, call me Darcy." "Darcy. I love that name. It's so -- literary." Cass and Wallingford arrived. Cass: She left her purse out on the table. Not a good move, Kathleen. but we're going to have to try it anyway. You remember the plan, Wally? Wallingford: What plan? We're not exactly pulling the Brinks job here, Cass. Cass: Do you really think it has movie possibilities? Kathleen is raving about a mini-series -- to be shot on location, of course. Darcy's sold. He's about to sign on the dotted line. A strange alarmish sound. O no said Cass. Darcy: What was that? Kathleen: My alarm. I'm on medication. Darcy: It's a little loud, isn't it? Kathleen: I'm on heavy medication. She mumbled something about her wisdoms. She can't find the contract in Krystle's purse (not surprisingly). Cass & Wallingford dashed up. Wallingford: My girl here was wondering is this gentleman is that famous Hollywood actor. Darcy: Who, me? Wallingford: Yeah, tell him who he is, honey. Cass: Robert Redford. Wallingford: She's just crazy about Robert Redford. Cass: I saw The Sting seven times. Wallingford: More like ten. Cass: Really? What is Paul Newman really like? Darcy: Well, this is very flattering, but I'm not Robert Redford. Cass: Are you sure? You're not teasing me? Darcy: I'm not even an actor. Wallingford: Oh, you're kidding. Darcy: I'm an author. Wallingford: Oh, you're kidding. Kathleen: And I'm his publisher. Wallingford: Oh, you're kidding. Cass and Wallingford beat a hasty retreat, the purses having been restored to their rightful owners. There is however a difficulty about dear Darcy's cheque.
Blaine asked Jamie why he was calling Sandy. Jamie said he wanted to tell Sandy what he thought of him. Blaine left. Jamie called Sandy and begged him to get out and come home before he gets himself killed.
Larry asked MJ about Jamie's gun. She refused to use her relationship with Jamie to find out the truth. MJ is waiting for a report on the horse that won the race against Cornbread. (Wouldn't it be lovely if Stowaway (the winning horse at long odds) were disqualified and Kathleen's money her own again?) She's suspicious about Stowaway's true identity. This'll be Carl again you realise. Larry sent her home early. He believes Carl is Stowaway's owner.
The old folks are at the cabin. It's freezing. Sans heat, water -- in the middle of a blizzard. Liz is not incredibly thrilled by it. She'd expected something bigger. No electricity. No phone. I don't think Liz fully comprehended the lack of anything but walls, packing cases, and a bed. Ada is saying ominous things about the Titanic. Their means of transportation is no good.
The Corys are riding and singing.
Sandy went to see Carl. Carl wants to talk to him about trust. When two people trust one another they have something special (are they in love or what?). Carl told Sandy about Mac ruining his father. Driving him to suicide.
Cass complimented Kathleen on her business capabilities. He seems to've been listening to Wallingford. He said, "Thank you, and I'm sorry." He mentioned her sacrifices. He told her not to worry and to hang in there. She's going to leave. He thanked her again.
Carl believes Mac murdered his father in effect. Sandy said he was sorry. Carl showed him the weapon his father used to kill himself. He gave him "the keys to the kingdom." That will open high-access files. He said Sandy today became his son and heir (sounding kingly as all hell).
MJ came to see Jamie. She told him she knows about the gun (it's not his). She said she had two choices: to be a good cop or to be his girl and she'd decided to be his girl.
The info on Stowaway came in. Sandy's the owner.
Sandy said, "I've got you now, Hutchins. Finally, I've got you," to himself.
