ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

August 17, 1987

Sam clipped Amanda into a bow tie and wouldn't let her explain. She parked her car.

Rachel came downstairs dressed. Everyone whistled. The McKinnons were let in. Adam came forward to greet them and their smiles froze. Adam wandered into a corner, looking desolated. Rachel told Matthew she was afraid Amanda wasn't coming. Matthew said Amanda had been there for an hour.

Donna and Michael returned home. Donna still can't believe her father would be trying to sabotage Michael. Clara rushed down and summoned them to see John.

John tossed and turned. He's having a nightmare about fighting off Gollum, interspersed with being blown up in Viet Nam. Michael rushed in. John fell off the bed and writhed on the floor. Michael landed on him. Donna looked on. Michael helped John up. Donna led Clara out. Michael said he [Michael] hadn't had the Nam dream since he found Donna. He suggested that telling him what he'd been going to tell him before he died would help.

Rachel was incredulous. She sought out Mac and fussed because Amanda hadn't reported to them. Mac was just thrilled to hear she was back. Jamie and Lisa arrived. Adam stood around alone, a pariah. ("Why would he feel like a tropical fish?" Ah, nostalgia.) Vince groused to Cheryl and Mary about poor MJ sitting home alone and here stands Adam having a miserable time in public. Cap'n Delaney arrived on Ada's arm. He suggested they dance. Suzy's eyes met Matthew's across the room. She has rather an excess of blonde hair piled on top of her head and spilling down around her shoulders. A couple of military types wandered in. Cheryl and Julie ogled and swooned and discussed the intense carparker. Julie makes me sick.

Cass drove up with Mitch and Felicia in a car I am unable to place. They went in. Amanda came up to admire it. Sam said the girl the party was for must be a real snob. Amanda smiled. (Ha. It's a model T. I'm sorry, I'm so clueless.)

A bitch reporter wandered around the party, making noises about Amanda's absence. Rachel interrogated Suzy. Suzy had no clue. Lisa found out what Jamie's favourite breakfast was. Adam teased Rachel. She was resigned.

Clara told Donna she knew what Michael and John had been arguing about in Saigon. She had spoken to each of them right before John died because their father had asked to come back when his woman left him. John was for, Michael against. Clara turned her husband away. She thinks John resented it. Michael came through on his way out to meet with his lawyer. He hadn't been able to talk to John. Peter appeared. Donna went up. Clara has no use for Peter.

Donna came into John's room. She asked what his secret was. He said she knew. She asked if he'd been going to tell Michael he loved her or what had happened That Night. He said he would have told Michael that they had made love but she hadn't been able to face it. He said it had changed his life. He said he'd planned to find her and win her after 'nam.

Chad arrived at the party. He flattered Rachel shamelessly. Zack arrived. Cheryl enthused about Becky. Vince and Mary danced. Cass moped alone. Suzy made Matthew dance.

Amanda put her feet up in the model T. Sam came across her and joined her to bitch about the snob. He said he resented these people because most of them had been born to money and hadn't earned it. She found out what time it was and fled without introducing herself.

Mac took Rachel's mind off Amanda by dancing. Vince complained to Mary about Adam. Mary assured him MJ would be fine. Jamie and Lisa kissed. Adam slouched in his chair. When MJ appeared on the horizon he sat up suddenly. MJ looked apprehensive. She caught sight of Chad staring. Her parents perceived her and rushed over. MJ glanced at Adam and looked apprehensive some more. He's standing up now. Cass rushed up and dragged MJ off to dance. Adam watched them in a sinister fashion.

Donna wept. She told John Michael wouldn't give up until he found out.

Victoria curled up on the couch with a novel. That Old Carrot rang the bell. She was less than thrilled to see him, but she was more than civil. He got her to leave the room. When she was gone, he put incriminating photographs in her book. Enter Michael. He spotted him holding a Felicia Gallant novel and said he would have thought G. Gordon Liddy was more in his line. That Old Carrot played dumb, as usual. Michael told him he'd fired Harry Ryan, inside plant. He accused Reginald of subterfuge. Victoria reappeared. She picked up her novel and lurked. Donna and John came down. John announced he'd been packing and wanted to say goodbye to Mom.

Vince cut in on Cass and MJ. Chad watched. MJ told Vince she was sorry. He asked if she'd confessed. When she said she had a long time ago he said everything was fine. Mary danced with Cass. She said Adam looked so sad. She spotted Chad lurking and looking much less sad. Cass followed her gaze. Jamie crept up on Lisa and surprised her at a surprise telephone call. He didn't hear anything. Peter and Peggy showed up. Mac took Rachel aside and said Amanda was ready to roll. He forbade her to kill her. Rachel grumbled about twelve hours of labour. He called everyone out on the terrace. Mary and Vince slipped away. Mac made a speech and presented Amanda. Apples tore through with Matthew in his wake.

That Old Carrot refused to leave. Victoria asked John not to go. She left with her date. That Old Carrot brought up his house of cards story.

Vince showed Mary a ring.

Matthew got Amanda's shoe away from Apples and restored it to her. Amanda finally appeared herself in a white strapless job, standard wear.

Thank you, John. So this, then, is what rape is all about. I guess women just don't know what's good for them. I could throw up.
