Adam asked MJ a lot of probing [but concerned] questions about Chad. She said Chad had nothing to do with anything. He asked if there were something going on between them. She didn't answer. He told her a little bitterly she wasn't the only one who felt shut out sometimes and made to go. She detained him. He said they'd talk about it later. She called after him. Chad loomed up before her and said "if he won't listen, I will."
Fitch and Melicia [sic] back in civilization kidded around a little. Dr Glaser hove into view and Mitch effaced himself.
Jamie attempted to lure Lisa to see an American in Paris at the Paradise Theatre. She was tempted but said she could turn down a date with Gene Kelly because she had a date with cousin Adam. Jamie flipped out even though she said it was a work appointment. He said the film began at 9 PM. Adam stomped in and said their work was confidential so Jamie wasn't invited. Jamie chafed.
Chad told MJ he could give her what she wanted. She said she wanted security and a home and kids and Adam was the means to that end. [I'm not sure I like that. Adam should be as much the end as the means.] He pointed out that he knew the Truth and he loved her regardless, would Adam? Cheryl and Mary and Vince cruised through to get MJ on the way to the bridal shoot. Chad whispered to MJ he'd get the tape back. She told him everything was his fault. He said he'd kill for her if he had to, would Adam? [Moot. Moot.]
Dr Glaser collected on his rain check. Felicia was hesitant but he persisted. They now have a date for tonight. Felicia went to put Mitch off but he put her off first almost too calmly. She was annoyed. Felicia and Dr Glaser left. The McKinnons arrived for the shoot. Cheryl was sent to change. MJ brooded about the likelihood of her getting married. She told Mary she was afraid of losing Adam. Mary said that wouldn't happen unless she let it. Robert McDuffie, violinist, whose performance Felicia and Dr Glaser are to see, asked Mitch for directions. Georgia. Alabama via Tennessee. It forms a bond. Mitch offered him a ride. They're suddenly best chums. Cheryl appeared, looking sufficiently bridal. Vince made reference to his and Mary's wedding. Enter Chad the bad penny. Chad: I used to dream about you like that. MJ: stop it. Chad: did you know I always wanted to marry you? [RIGHT. Pull the other one. I may be gullible, but I'm not THAT gullible.] MJ: I'm going to marry Adam. Chad: it'll never happen. MJ: yes it will. I promise you. Chad: don't count on it.
Adam took Lisa to Tony's apartment to get a vibration. Jamie burst in to complain about the press lurking in the lobby. He argued with Adam. Lisa broke it up saying it was her decision. Jamie insisted on staying. Lisa concentrated. She got a feeling about Cheryl. Adam was interested.
Shoot. Killer music. The McKinnon parents seemed proud and fond. MJ wept. Chad attempted to comfort her to further his own ends. [Pressing his own suit. Holy cow.] She freaked out about the white dress thing. She said she felt like filth. He told her not to say that; seeing how far she'd come [he said] inspired him. [Quel line of bull. Really, Chad is too much. But more convincing than That Old Carrot.] Hope to make something of himself. He tried to convince her that the prostitution had all been in pursuit of their Dream. She told him [steadily] that her Dream was to marry Adam and he'd help her crack the code and solve the case if he had ever loved her. Sudden screams interrupted their tête-a-tête: Cheryl had discovered a sinister note from the killer.
Adam worried when Lisa said Cheryl was frightened. He had Jamie phone Tops to see if she was all right and had Lisa tried to get a grip on Tony with the help of his ID bracelet. She tried and said she could see him. Adam asked where. She didn't know. She said he was angry. Jamie reported that Cheryl was okay.
"You're a good girl. Stay pure so you can marry in white." * MJ took Chad around and chewed him out for being a suspect. She said Adam had doubts about Tony and he should help her clear him. He told her they were connected. She returned to headquarters.
Felicia loves the violin. Robert McDuffie came around and played for her and Dr Glaser personally.
Adam left the bracelet with Lisa. MJ and Jamie seemed vaguely to feel that the situation smacked too much of going steady and broke it up accordingly. Lisa left with Jamie. Adam said he wanted to talk to Chad. She [MJ] asked if he loved her. He said he did. She said that was great because she loved him and wanted to marry him. He said he wanted to marry her too, but. She said they had to catch the killer and she was beside him in this and for the rest of their lives and they'd have home and lots of red-haired babies and never let anything get in their way. Kissing.
The McKinnon parents put Cheryl to bed. Mary was reintroduced to her ancient coffee grinder. Vince bugged her about being a señora and living on a thousand-acre plantation. He told her about the McKinnon hard times while she had been gone. He said she was better suited to a place like Tops than to Mary's Place.
Our Love Is Here to Stay. Jamie and Lisa fought over the popcorn. I'm told they indulged in an American in Paris fantasy. At least Jamie did and she listened in.
Dr Glaser suggested a nightcap at Felicia's place. Mitch called him away to take a phone call from Adam. He was forced to go to headquarters. Mitch told Felicia he thought it would be better if he didn't work at Tops. She told him to admit he'd had McDuffie perform at the table. He denied it. She insisted they celebrate with beer and something crackly. She told him Bobby had blown his cover and made him [Bobby] play the Tennessee Waltz.
Mary wants to do social work when she gets her degree in June. Vince said he was proud of her. She noticed it was late. He said he'd take her home. She said she appreciated what he'd done for the family while she'd been gone and he was a wonderful father. He seemed slightly embarrassed.
Adam threw Dr Glaser and Chad together to see what would happen. Dr Glaser asked Chad if his bride would have to be a virgin. Chad said he loved somebody and he told her he didn't care about her past. He produced an engraved something left him by his grandmother [not a prostitute] saved for the woman he loved. "Love forever."
Jamie proposed a picnic. Lisa agreed to it. He offered himself as a comforting presence. She sensed the killer's prior presence.
* It's evident that the killer is not close to Miss Manners. SHE says that one doesn't have to be a virgin to marry in white. Take heed, McKinnons. "Brides come in two models: young and/or inexperienced, and mature and/or experienced. The former wears white, the latter something more subtle OR more befitting her station OR more sophisticated. The experience referred to is not the one you and so many others assume; it is marriage." The problem with these people is that they seem to think their sex lives are somebody else's business. Only participants need be privy.↩
