Adam and Jamie quarrelled.
MJ asked Chad what had happened. He muttered about having to protect her.
The impostor mother chattered on about being a family and insisted on being allowed to talk to John alone.
Donna told John she was very happily married. He asked why she was so nervous. She said she was tired and worried about Clara. He didn't believe her. She admitted being worried about the tension between him and Michael. He said it wasn't surprising, under the circs. She changed the subject. He bitched about the war. She said she'd learned about survival too. He asked about the daughters. She knew who had said you couldn't go home again. [Thos Wolfe.] He asked how old the daughters were.
Clara was firm. Michael said he hoped they'd get the personal things sorted out.
Cheryl came across MJ and Chad. MJ sent her to phone Jamie and found out who had attacked him. He told her he wasn't running hookers any more and the guys from Chicago were upset he wasn't paying protection money any more. She asked about his protecting her. He found the tape gone.
Jamie answered his beeper in a foul temper. Adam assured Lisa she could quit if she were worried about the danger. She insisted on seeing it through.
Chad told MJ that the guys had taken something but Vince appeared and interrupted. He was suspicious about the mugging story because Chad still had his wallet. Jamie dropped by to doctor him. He told MJ to watch out for Lisa. An exciting phone call came for Cheryl. She cheered and said she was going to be a bride.
Donna hesitated and admitted the girls looked just like Michael and were nineteen. Michael appeared and sent John in to the impostor mother. He told Donna he thought that they had had some unfinished business to resolve so she hadn't accepted his death. He said for some reason right before the war John had suddenly shut him out. Donna tried to play it down. He didn't buy it.
The impostor mother commented on the undead brother's resemblance to his father. Michael's speculation about unfinished business was correct. Clara asked if John had stayed away because of their terrible argument.
Cheryl has a modeling offer from Bride magazine. MJ approved. Vince was a little wary. The shoot is to be at Tops. Cheryl was thrilled. Jamie proposed x-rays for Chad and left. MJ pounced on Chad. He clammed up. She was firm. He said there had been a tape made of her and influential johns and he'd intended to destroy it BUT. She became upset and demanded to know who had it. She didn't like the answer.
Hickety pickety my fine hen she does things for gentlemen. Gentlemen come every day to see what my fine hen doth lay. Sometimes brunette and sometimes red hickety pickety now she's dead. The killer was online long enough to be traced. [I rather like this rhyme. It scans a little better than the first.] Adam was delighted. Lisa found it rather horrible.
John tried to change the subject. Clara asked if he'd left because of That Girl, the object of their fight. She said she'd told him to stay away from her because she'd known Michael was already in love with her. He said he hadn't coveted her just because Michael had. She asked if he were still in love with her. He said he didn't know. He said he didn't even remember That Girl's name. [Marlo Thomas. Ye gods.] She told him she loved him as much as she loved Michael. Michael broke it up. John went for some air. Donna left Clara and Michael alone.
The phone lines had been scrambled. Adam was depressed until it occurred to him that he could chat back. Jamie came in and reported that Chad had been mugged and MJ had found him. Fickle Adam abandoned his pursuit of Dr Glaser[i-mean-the-as-yet-unidentified serial killer] to go chasing after Chad. It's an alibi of sorts. And why was he mugged?
Chad promised to retrieve the tape. There was no reasoning with MJ for some time, in her fear that someone would see it. He swore he'd do anything, even unto murder.
Clara advised Michael to give John time.
Donna found John. He was not receptive to any overtures. She thought about the rape.
Jamie told Lisa he was going to be all over her like a cheap suit all the time. He said they were leaving now. She said they weren't.
MJ flung herself into Adam's arms, seeking consolation. He asked about Chad. She said he'd been mugged. He asked if he'd said something to upset her. She said if anyone had upset her it was the fiancé. He stumbled around in an explanation about the killer. She said she loved him and she wasn't sure he loved back any more. She was extremely upset. He whispered that he was sorry. She said she needed to know he would always love her because she needed him.
Donna and Michael's first dance together was some enchanted evening. [Not the song, the event.] Michael said Clara was moving in and he'd like John along. Donna said that was fine. A whole family under one roof when the twins come home. He appreciates her support. John drove off alone. Michael made a remark about his Tempting Fate and hurting the people around him.
