The Hudsons assembled for lunch. Michael has to go to Toledo for business. Donna overreacted when Victoria suggested she spend more time at the beach house.
Julie Ann produced Mandy's résumé for Amanda's inspection. She may have oversalted it. Sam came into Gino and Dominic's.
Mary lunched on Tops with Felicia. She told her Vince wanted a divorce. Breaking ties is not easy. Vince and Diane came up in the elevator. Wally rushed to seat them. Vince came over to talk to Mary. Felicia left them alone. Vince told Mary he'd talked to his attorney in the morning. Conversation lagged, but they were reluctant to let it die. He went back to Diane. Mary seemed cross.
Sam came over to the table. Amanda proudly gave him her résumé. He read it and said she was overqualified. He went to sit with Kevin.
The Hudson family was tense. Michael told Victoria she could keep the car so long as she was responsible for all the maintenance and all the gas. Victoria blossomed. The crowd began to disperse.
Donna took Clara to task for thinking something about her and John that wasn't true. Clara collapsed. Donna yelled for Michael. Everyone rushed in. Bridget called Jamie. Victoria fussed. Michael asked Donna what had happened.
Amanda went to confront Sam. She made him accept her résumé. Kevin wishes Sam would hire her. Amanda got an idea.
Mary watched Diane laugh with Vince. She hates her. Felicia suggested she was jealous. Mary admitted she loved him but she couldn't marry him. Vince is not being flexible. Marriage or nothing. (All or nothing. Total, instant commitment or what's the point? Help.) Diane is a threat because she's so understanding. She's willing to wait for Vince and do everything on his terms. She did let on that she couldn't bear it if he was using her to get to Mary. She burst into tears and went to the ladies' room. Mary followed her. That Old Carrot watched. John came up and asked Wally if he could apply for the part-time bartender's job. Wally hired him on the spot. John has a reason to stick around. That Old Carrot looked thoughtful.
Amanda lurked outside the layout office and scared away the remaining applicant. (Poor Ginny Pepper. She really wanted the job, too. Amanda felt a little guilty, but did it stop her?) Then she went in to work on Kevin's devotion. Sam came in and found her at it. She left. Sam is not crazy about her.
Jamie arrived to examine Clara. He found her blood pressure was high. Clara has been neglecting to take her medicine. Michael said he'd watch her. Victoria walked Jamie out. Peter was interested in the friendship. Michael asked Donna if she'd said anything to upset his mother. Donna admitted she'd snapped. She said sometimes Clara seemed to interfere. Michael said they'd thrash it out. Peter went and called That Old Carrot. He told him he didn't think they could count on Victoria.
Wally talked to John about Vietnam. That Old Carrot put John's back up. John warned him that, unlike Michael, he didn't fight fair.
Mary told Diane she wanted her to know what had gone on between her and Vince. She said Vince had issued a marriage ultimatum. Mary let on she perceived her threat. Diane told her she was always available to give Vince what he wanted, which was more than she could say for her.
Amanda lured Kevin out and took Sam hostage.
Vince and Diane left. That Old Carrot came up to Mary. She informed him that she and Vince had split. He asked her out. She said NO. He pushed it. She fled.
The Hudson women talked about their favourite childhood flowers. (Victoria's: Zinnias; Donna's: Daisies.) Victoria said she thought you had to be pretty intimate with someone before you knew that kind of thing about her. She asked what her favourite flower was now. Enter John. "Gardenias," said he.
