Scott posted cards all over town looking for Vince's alibi. Ada assured him Vince was innocent.
Adam showed Cheryl the locket he intended to give MJ for Christmas. [oh, that's nice.] She was enraptured and asked whose picture MJ would put inside. Enter MJ with Jamie. Adam looked crestfallen.
Mac stuck his nose into Rachel's Christmas packages. Rachel caught him and lost control.
Brittany was confident that Sara would testify in her favor. Tough luck — she testified truthfully. [although she attempted to show that Brittany had been afraid of Peter when she had threatened him. [If she had been so afraid, why would she have risked making threats?]]. Brittany jumped up and accused Peter of having paid Sara to testify like that. The judge demanded order and worn sack that if Brittany couldn't control herself she'd have to watch the trial on television in her cell. Sara was forced to admit that she'd heard threats often. Peggy got her to say exactly what Brittany had said on various occasions. She described the pumpkin incident with the knife, although she hadn't actually seen it.
Adam gave Jamie hell for hanging around the Pig Whistle and MJ and messing up her undercover work. MJ thought he was unreasonable. Adam told Jamie to butt out. Jamie left in a huff. MJ was not pleased.
Rachel apologized for overreacting. Mac got into her sexy nightie purchases. He found a photography book in the bag. She instantly assured him it wasn't for Mitch. She apologized for being defensive and said it was for Matthew. Rachel continued being defensive and stomped out when the phone rang. Mr Padowski left a message for her not to worry because Mitch was not going to prison. Mac asked her why she hadn't told him of her intervention on Mitch's behalf.
Zack got Sara to admit she told people she loved to drop dead without meaning it. [Zack is so awful.] He asked if she'd heard Peter threaten Brittany. She said she had. Zack got her to say that she was sure [even though sometimes people say drop dead to people they love without meaning it if they're Brittany] he had been dead serious. She explained that Catlin had employed her and she'd observed Brittany was frightened.
Adam: would you please stop looking at me like that? MJ: maybe you should be more careful about what you say. Adam: look, I'm sorry I chased off your boyfriend, all right? I was just a little concerned that maybe some amateur was going to blow your cover. MJ: I handled it, Adam. And Jamie is not my boyfriend. Adam: I mean, you shouldn't be taking unnecessary risks right now, MJ. I just don't want to find you dead at the end of some alley like we did those two hookers. MJ: don't even say that. Adam: I'm sorry. It's just because I care about you. I mean, I do. I care about you a lot. MJ: do you? Adam: yes, I do. MJ: all right then. Thank you for your concern. Adam: it's more than just concern. MJ: you know, there's nothing going on between me and Jamie. Adam: well, you two were pretty tight before. MJ: that was along time ago. Adam: really? MJ: yeah. Adam: 'cos it looked to me maybe you and Jamie were beginning to rethink why you ever split up. MJ: come on, Adam. You don't have to worry about Jamie and me. We are just friends. Adam: OK. But I worry about you. I worry about you a lot. MJ: I never thought I would hear myself say this, but — it's kind of nice having somebody like you worry about me. Adam: oh, yeah? Somebody LIKE me, or somebody like ME? MJ: somebody EXACTLY like you. Adam: MJ, why did you and Jamie ever split up? MJ: oh, it was no big deal. It just wasn't meant to be, y' know? He wanted more commitment than I was willing to give. Adam: where have I heard THAT song before? The sugar daddy phoned. Scott told Adam about his investigation. Adam warned him not to let himself in for trouble. MJ told the sugar daddy to leave her alone. "I'm part of your life, baby," he said. She shoved Cheryl away and told him she never wanted to see him. Adam told Scott to stop investigating. He looked around for MJ to support him and found she had gone. Cheryl told him the phone call had upset her.
Mac told Rachel he approved of what she'd done for Mitch but she had been wrong not to tell him. She was defensive. They quarreled. He told her she had to face the truth about her feelings for Mitch. She had a fit.
Catlin yelled at Sara for being truthful and legal.
Peggy bugged Zack. She advised him to cop a plea. He told her she was underestimating his ability as a defence attorney. [in my opinion it would be next to impossible to do that, but Zack is god's gift to warthogs in his own esteem. That's scary.] She called Catlin. Catlin neglected to put his hand on the Bible while the bailiff [at least I think it's a bailiff] attempted to swear him in. He refused to testify. The judge told him he had to. [I have seen Catlin pull some lulus in his time, but this is the luluest of all.] He explained to him that it was compulsory. Catlin refused again. The judge lost patience. He sent the jury out and told Catlin he was in trouble. Catlin said he didn't care.
Ada comforted Rachel. Rachel wept. She told her what a great mom she was. Ada advised her to catch herself lest she lose a lot.
Scott ignored Adam's warnings. Cheryl showed him the newspaper, filled with yesterday's idiotic outburst. He's glad to have it out in the open. He kissed her.
MJ let herself into Adam's apartment. He was surprised.
The judge attempted to reason with Catlin. Zack suggested that Catlin might be labouring under the misapprehension that he needn't testify because of his having been married to the defendant. Peter corrected that impression, pointing out that only present husbands need apply. Catlin persisted in refusing. The judge found him in contempt and sent him to jail. Brittany and Catlin both burst out hysterical.
Ada got a mysterious phone call at Mary's Place and let Cheryl know that Vince was all right.
MJ: Pops being in trouble's part of it, and Kathleen leaving — I just — I feel so alone. That's why I came here. Adam: how'd you get in? MJ: I picked your lock. [I like that.] Adam: you picked my lock? MJ: I wanted to be near you. Adam: well, I'm sorry, MJ, but you're under arrest. MJ: are you going to read me my rights? Adam: You have the right to pick my lock any time you like. Of course, if you had a key of your own it would be a lot easier, not to mention a lot more legal. MJ: thanks. I feel better. A lot better. I'm sorry I cried all over your sofa. Adam: I'm sorry I yelled at you. I just didn't expect you to be here. You surprised me. I'm glad you came to see me. MJ: I had to come to see you. You're the one who taught me that it's all right to admit that you can't do everything by yourself. Adam: it's a lot better that way, isn't it? MJ: you want to know something else? If I was ever going to fall in love — it'd definitely be with you. Kissing. Adam: MJ, you mean so much to me. MJ: I'm a lot more trouble than I'm worth. He asked if the phone call had upset her. She said not. He said he was glad she was there. Kissing. A beeper went off. Adam: is that you or me? They investigated and found it was MJ. She called in and was redirected to the courthouse. He invited her back for dinner but she fled, never to return [that night].
Jamie bugged Rachel. She asked if Mac had put him up to it. He said no, because Mac was busy with his accountant. Rachel narrowed her eyes. "Rose Livingstone? That SORT OF ATTRACTIVE LADY?" [I couldn't stop laughing. The way she said that.] He told her to straighten up and fly right. He advised her to invite Mac for dinner and show him how much she cared. She phoned obediently. As Mac picked up the phone he told Rose she was priceless and beautiful. Rachel was a little taken aback, but she persisted in her invitation. Mac conveyed his regrets. He has to work. Rachel was less than thrilled.
Peggy packed up to go home. MJ arrived at the courthouse brooding on the sugar daddy. She fled from the janitor.
Sara let Brittany cuddle her baby a little. Brittany promised a ranch and a real daddy. Sara asked forgiveness for her truthfulness. Brittany understood. Catlin's refusal to testify thrilled her. Sara told her he would be in jail forever if he persisted.
Zack told Catlin the stunt he had pulled was the dumbest thing he'd ever seen anybody do in a courtroom [for once the warthog and I agree]. Catlin suggested they use it for a mistrial. Zack told him that was impossible. Catlin said he wouldn't testify tomorrow, either. Zack yelled at him a little and left. He said he was going to see Brittany. Catlin sent word he loved her. [Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. He was much better at his own trial.]
