Michael looked for Nicole in Tops, having heard she would be there. Mary kept bringing up Donna to goad him. She admitted sometimes she got lonely for Vince. Michael admitted he felt lonely for Donna, too. That Old Carrot appeared. Michael went to make a phone call once Mary had assured him she could handle the Carrot if he came over. He did. He said it was their wedding anniversary.
When Rex turned to shoot at Cass again, Adam pulled Nicole away from him. Cass cut loose a vicious-looking chandelier. Mitch turned Felicia to him to protect her; Donna launched herself across the room to cover Victoria; Rex was squashed quite flat. Cass climbed down. Adam held Nicole protectively and wouldn't let her run to Cass. He left her with Felicia and went to inspect Rex.
That Old Carrot made a big production of putting up a brave front. Mary told him to shape up if he wanted his family to love him. He left when Michael returned. Michael told Mary he thought it was weird she intended to take a room above Mary's Place.
Jamie fetched his bag. The chandelier parallels Lisa's broken glass. Vicky was a little dazed. It seemed to her that Donna had saved her life. Donna comforted Nicole. Jamie declared Rex dead. Cass stared. He told Felicia he wished Rex had lived because of Kathleen.
Chad restored Cheryl to Mary's Place. Ada was decorating. Cheryl went to fetch food. [Her depression manifests itself in hunger. Not that she gets any fatter.] Ada said Nancy wasn't coming home for Christmas. Chad said he wanted to go upstairs to talk to Scott but Cheryl insisted he eat with her now.
Dawn broke away from Scott's kiss to indulge in a coughing fit. Scott decided she was sick and ran for a thermometer. He's bad at thermometers. He discovered a high fever. He put her to bed.
Chad and Cheryl tried to cheer each other up. Ada told them the radio had news of a fatal chandelier. They rushed into the kitchen. Enter Mary. Scott dashed down the stairs and dragged her up to look at Dawn.
The crew from the Powerhouse came up to Tops and ran into Michael. Nicole fell apart. Donna led her to her suite. Vicky told Michael Donna had pushed her out of the way. She took Nicole's stuff down to her suite. Cass asked how come people had been taken in by Rex. Felicia said they'd thought grief had deranged him. Cass rushed up to Adam and suggested Kathleen might be alive.
Nicole and Donna and Victoria ran into That Old Carrot and spurned him. He was affronted and walked off. Vicky was civil to Donna. She gave Nicole her coat and refused to come in so Nicole could rest. When she was alone in the hall That Old Carrot reappeared and told her Michael was only using her to hurt Donna. She told him to stay away from her. He left. Jamie came up behind her. She turned to him for comfort. He told her she deserved a lot.
Mary said Scott wouldn't mind giving up his bed for one night. Dawn didn't want to bother her doctor but Mary said she should see him tomorrow.
Adam asked Cass if Rex had ever given him the impression he was lying about Kathleen's death. Cass admitted he hadn't but convinced Adam to investigate some more.
Nicole advised Donna to work things out with Michael. Donna said that Nicole had been falling in love with Rex-as-Cass and it might be appropriate for her to get to know Cass. Cass dropped by. Donna left him and Nicole alone. He told her he'd heard John was fine. He offered to help her out. They decided to be friends. He said goodnight. She went to bed.
Felicia told Mitch she didn't like it when he tried to protect her from Cass. He suggested they talk about this in the morning and went to bed. She brooded.
Mary went downstairs and told Ada she wanted the room upstairs. Ada warned her not to play loud music and pay her rent promptly. She told her about the fatal chandelier. Mary told her it was too bad Nancy wasn't coming home. Ada went home. Cass knocked. Mary flew to let him in and hugged him gladly.
Scott nursed Dawn.
Donna advised Nicole to rest. Nicole thought if Michael and Donna would get back together their assets would thaw and they'd be able to lend her money. Donna forbade her to talk to Michael and left. Nicole stared at a paper with the headline WINTHROP IMPOSTER [not an acceptable spelling in my dictionary] KILLED and burned it in the grate, saying, "I should have known you were too good to be true."
Cass told Mary that he thought Rex might have known something about Kathleen. She wept hopefully.
* I have this episode as December 8 but according to the AWHP that was a day that was pre-empted for a summit with Reagan and Gorbachev. So this may have aired December 9 instead. I am also missing parts of the rest of the days this week.↩
