ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

June 7, 1985

Larry is cut by the police force. They don't speak to him. MJ told him it was a good thing she'd gone to the hospital instead of him because (a) she'd had to use feminine wiles to persuade the lab man to test the stuff and (b) she'd run into Catlin who is suspicious. (I don't think Catlin is as clever as Kathleen at figuring things out though he has come up with the right answer; I just think he wants to believe things like Sally didn't want to shoot him and Larry isn't hell bent on being unfaithful to Clarice and they happen to be true. Catlin has a great many convictions of various sorts.) Larry said he'd take care of his brother. She told him the stuff was like Willa's. Larry suspects it's manufactured in Bay City.

Catlin, having received from a reliable source word that his dearer wife was at home and greatly desiring indeed to spend time beside her, came to the cabin himself bringing suggestions for spending of time. She had to pick up Kevin so they decided they'd all three have dinner at home when she got back. There's going to be one doozy of a storm. Bay City weather is beyond me. Catlin's going to apologize to Zane while she's gone.

Zane told Britt he'd thought it would be better if they didn't see each other for a while.

Rachel has a meeting with Brian about her investments. He told her Steve had left her a good deal of money. She said it was strange. He said it wasn't considering their relationship. She said it was strange Mac hadn't told her she had money of her own.

Sally made him explain why he had to apologize to ZANE LINDQUIST. She thinks it's weird that Britt would have no inkling that the man's been in love with her for three years. Sally: well, do you think that she'll leave Zane if she knows that he's in love with her? Catlin: she's pretty independent. Sally: is that why you fell in love with her? Catlin: well, I guess that's why I liked her in the first place. I always thought of women as being weak, like my mom. (the one who killed Alma.) Sally: Brittany's not. Catlin: no. And neither are you. Sally: I'm no tough-talking rodeo gal. Catlin: hey, you're no pushover. Kissing. I love you. Sally: I need to hear that, once in a while. Catlin: as often as you like. Sally told him Kevin wanted to go over to the Corys on the way home tonight. Catlin asked if it bothered her that Kevin liked Britt. She said it did because she was competing with Britt for both of them. Catlin told her there was no competition in either case. She was pleased. He offered to go with her but she told him to go to Zane. Catlin: OK. I'll meet you back here later. Sally: okay. Catlin: Good. Sally: hey, you want some sweet corn with your steak? Catlin: oh, you have just read my mind. We'll have dinner together, then we'll tuck Kevin in together. Sally: well, we'll have to think of something else to do together too. Catlin: you just leave that up to MOI. I can be very resourceful. Laughter.

"Hey, hey--what are you doing?/no. We have TALKED and TALKED and--no. It's not that you hurt ME. I can't stand to watch you hurt yourself. / oh. Well, if you're fine then you don't need me. I can't stand to watch you destroy yourself over Catlin Ewing. /I don't know where I'm going. What do you care?/you know how I feel about you. /nobody in my whole life has ever needed me the way the need me. And I told myself that was enough. I told myself that you'd turn to me. I told myself that I could wait. well, I've been waiting for you and you've been waiting for Catlin, and life has gone on without either one of us. /Britt. Britt. I love you. I DO love you. I have to go on. Just like Catlin did. /yes, yes Britt. You lost your father AND your son AND your husband in that storm. Just as certain as if Catlin had drowned with them. YES. And you have to face up to that. Or you'll grow old and you'll die by yourself. HE'S GONE. HE IS GONE BRITT." Britt ran from the room out into the storm I guess.

Wally told Felicia she needed a man her life. Someone she could relax with. Someone who likes to sit down by the record player and listen to Carmen Macrae. Said Felicia "Well if you find someone like that send him my way, will you?" Wallingford said "Felicia--" but she'd broken in to "Casually" ask about Zane. He said Zane was a nice guy who fished for a living. He asked if she were attracted to Zane. She admitted she was but said it didn't matter because she'd likely never see him again. Wallingford sighed (I'm sure he was about to press his own suit) and said he could arrange a meeting. She was pleased. But a little nervous. "Wallingford--" she said. "You want to change your mind?" he said eagerly. "Ask him if he likes Carmen Macrae" she said.

Banging on Zane's door. Zane: Ha. Ran off without her key. Opening of door. Oh. Howdy, pal. Catlin: Hi. Can I come in? Zane: I was just about to head out. I'm kind of in a hurry right now. Catlin: Well, I won't take too much time. Zane: Is this important? Catlin: It is to me. I came over here to apologize for telling Brittany how you felt about her. Zane: Forget it. Catlin: Telling a woman you love her is something a guy should get to do on his own time. Zane: I don't think it would've mattered when I told her. Catlin: I was just thinking of myself. I thought by telling Brittany someone else was interested in her maybe she could -- Zane: Well I'm sorry it didn't work out that way. Catlin: Going somewhere? Zane: Yeah, I'm taking a few things to the boat IF IT'S ANYBODY'S BUSINESS. Catlin: You two had a fight, didn't you? Zane: We straightened out a few things I think. Catlin: That's not the easiest thing to do with Brittany. She's probably the most bullheaded woman on the face of this earth. Zane: Yeah, you ain't just whistling Dixie, buddy. Catlin: Well was it because of what I said to her? Zane: What? Catlin: The fight. Zane: Who said anything about a fight? Catlin: Brittany doesn't clear off tables like this unless she's REALLY mad. Zane: Yeah, well, she was pretty wild-eyed, but it wasn't because of anything you did. I think we would've had this fight no matter what. Catlin: Where is she now? Zane: I don't know. She just took off. Catlin: Did she slam the door? Zane: Yeah. Catlin: She does that to let off steam. Don't worry, she'll come around. Zane: Well, I'm afraid I won't be able to wait around for that. Catlin: You ARE leaving. What's she going to do? Zane: What she does from now one has got to be her problem--and yours.

The captain doesn't think they have enough evidence. Larry is insisting on continuing the investigation. MJ asked him about Clarice. (I think she wants to find out how relationships suffer under police stress.) she was so disappointed to find that no one (i.e. Jamie) had called while she was with the captain.

Jamie went to the Corys on business. Mac and Rachel invited him to stay to dinner and have MJ come over. He said he thought she was busy. Rachel wants a few words with Mac alone. Sally arrived. She wanted to talk to Rachel and Jamie went to be businesslike with Mac. She asked Rachel to go to the stables with her and Kevin. Aunt Liz (who has been there since before Brian even working with Mac) muttered things about Brittany. Sally thanked Rachel for helping Catlin help Brittany get back on her feet. She told her about the prospective dinner tonight. Things are going great.

I think Brittany's at the cabin and is snooping around.

MJ stood up for Larry to some cop called O'Brien. Larry is yelling at the captain who says if he wants to be a cop he'll have to be a desk. MJ tried to calm him down. O'Brien didn't. I think Larry hit him. The captain fired him. Larry objected. MJ protested. The captain told Larry what was what and made him give in his badge and gun.

Zane went to Smiley's entirely of his own accord. Wallingford introduced him to Felicia. They discussed his boat. He's thinking about Britt I think. (Felicia said she loved storms. He said they scared some people.) Wallingford keeps extolling Felicia's virtues. She excused him to Zane saying he had no objectivity where she was concerned but it was OK because she felt the same way about him. Zane offered to show them the boat and Wallingford very conveniently had something else to do but he was sure Felicia was free. So it's Felicia and Zane.

I think Britt in the cabin. Probably taking storm fits.

Liz asked Jamie about MJ. She said he could talk to her if he had problems. He can stay for dinner. Sally appeared with Rachel asking about Nancy and offering her ear if Nancy wanted to talk. She left. Liz said any other young woman would've done God knew what with this BRITTANY PETERSON (the contempt she put into those six syllables!) thing. Rachel said Sally didn't need patience because she knew she could trust the man she loved. (obviously thinking about husbands who don't 'fess up about their wives own money.) enter Mac. Exit Liz. Rachel asked why he hadn't told about her money.

Zane and Felicia had coffee. She perceived he was anxious. He told her he had a friend who was PETRIFIED of storms. He suggested they visit the marina another day but she loves boats in storms. She said he should call this friend and see how she was. He said they could call on her on their way to the boat. She asked his friend's name. "Brittany" he told her.

Catlin found Brittany in the cabin. "What you doing here Brittany?/Sally? What, what do you want to say to Sally?/whoa, whoa, Brittany, you can't be here, you have to go. /why? Because this is Sally's house. Brittany. Brittany, Sally's going to be back here any minute now, you have to go. /Brittany, why did you even come out on a day like this?/I have to call you a taxi. You have to go. /Brittany you can't be here when Sally gets here. You've hurt her enough right now. /all right, right. Look, I will drive you myself. Come on. Come on. /Brittany. It's pouring outside. "Put this on. I'm going to get an umbrella." I think Britt left while he was out of the room. When he returned he called after her. "BRITTANY. BRITTANY."

Guess what? Larry's little scene was carefully staged for the benefit of the rest of the world. He really enjoyed getting to deck O'Brien. He's meeting MJ secretly. He's worried about Dale. MJ is not sure about this. He's a little scared.

Zane's worried about Britt. He and Felicia discussed Britt and Catlin. He likes having someone to talk to. She's going to clean up (I guess it's Britt's "clearing the table" mess) while he calls Catlin in search of Britt.

Catlin pursued Brittany out into the wild. "Brittany. BRITTANY. WHERE ARE YOU?" (this shouldn't do any good, after all she's deaf, but are we rational?) "BRITTANY, COME HERE." he found her. She seems to've lost his keys or be refusing to yield them or something. He's yelling at her about them. I don't know where they are.

Mac told Rachel he and Ada had been afraid someone would take advantage of her and her money. She said she'd lost her memory, she hadn't become STUPID. She said she wasn't angry but she thought ALL the players should be allowed to peek at the rules. He said he didn't play games. She said she thought it was very interesting she had money of her own.

Clarice hadn't seen Britt. Zane apologized for boring Felicia but he said he couldn't help worrying about Britt. She said p'raps it was a habit he should try to break. He got a call from the marina saying his boat was going down. They left to see to it.

It turns out Brittany chucked his keys somewhere or something. He yelled and swore at her and told her he wasn't going to take this from her any more. He said there was an extra set of keys to the cabin. He told her to wait in the car. He told her she wasn't afraid of the storm she was just terribly horribly guilty that she'd chosen to live without her baby. He said he'd gone through that too at first and drunk and got into fights and wished he was dead but he'd learned to go on and they both had to and he wasn't going to let her drag him down. He left her in the car and went to get the keys. I don't know what she did but she honked the horn after a bit (to see if she could hear?) and then said "Catlin. C A T L I I I I I I N."

If Catlin has such a fondness for strong women, why does he harbour such determination to look after them and boss them around (often ineffectually)?
