ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

June 6, 1985

Cass was still in the middle of preparing his ideas for Daphne when the doorbell rang. Thinking it was the aforementioned Daphne he (pretending to be the Chinese houseboy) called out saying he was not home. Kathleen (for it was indeed she) was not fooled. He told her he didn't have time to socialize and Daphne was coming over soon. She said they were going to talk and came in.

Apparently the Catlin and his wives dinner was a bust. Clarice apologized but he said it wasn't Larry's fault. He wants to show Sally a great time. Clarice suggested the Plains Motel. Catlin's breath came more quickly at the mention of the place and he proclaimed it a great idea. "Somewhere where (heh heh) we can forget about everything."

The female whose pen it was came over to Larry and very cleverly convinced him to produce his pen to write down his name so it could be put on a mailing list. She said it was her pen. He said Dee had given it him (it's so cool, I love him not knowing Dee) for advertising. The female explained that Dee was new and her name was Adrienne Moreau (initials on the pen: AM PM Adrienne Moreau Plains Motel.) she's the owner. She wants the pen back. He spilled his drink on her and told her to go change while he wrote down the stuff. She asked to have the pen in case she didn't come back. He said he'd keep it to see that she did. She was forced to agree to this. He went to a different table altogether and fiddled with the pen a bit until it unscrewed and oceans of white powder came tumbling out. He then did it up in a bit of blue material and hid it in his pocket before going back his table and buying Adrienne a drink. He's making up to her.

Cass told Kathleen she'd done him a favor in trying to turn Daphne against him. "She's coming over here to look at my etchings." Kathleen said tightly she was glad. He laughed. She said she'd come to apologize and say she didn't like the competition because of what it was doing to them. He didn't believe she was sincere. She told him he should be sorry too. She suggested they call off the bet. He suggested she tell Daphne she didn't want the job. She flared up and said she would get the job and enjoy making him pay. "Sometimes when we are apart I really forget how awful and rotten you really are." she sent her best to Daphne, left and collapsed against the doorjamb.

Clarice told Catlin she'd like Larry to take her to the Plains Motel again. Catlin told her to ask him to. She said she didn't like to because of his messes now and he'd called and said he wanted a drink and she wasn't to wait dinner. Catlin said it was un-Larry-like. She thinks maybe Larry can't handle this and she wishes he'd talk to her. Catlin said p'raps Larry can't. She said she thought it brought couples closer to talk about troubles and she felt Sally and Catlin would get even closer through discussing Brittany. He told her he loved her. She told him to go to Sally. He opened the door and there was bare-shouldered Brittany preparing to knock.

Sally's wearing a white strapless dress. I think it's the one she shot him in. She's slightly nervous. Liz is raving about ROMANTIC evenings in such a strange voice. Sally told her she'd had a dream that Catlin had come to pick her up but there was Brittany sitting between them in the front seat. Liz said the Northwoods Inn (the fiasco date as Sally termed it) had been important. Sally asked how ("Everyone was miserable" she said.) Liz said it was Letting Britt See How Much Catlin Loves Sally. "That's what HE said." said Sally.

Britt told Catlin he looked natty (my word, natch. He's dressed up somewhat.) He told her he was taking Sally dancing at the Plains Motel. She wanted to come too. He suggested she ask Zane to take her. He told her she couldn't go with him. He made her sit down and told her she had to stop waiting around for him. He said she would always be very special to him but it was time for her to move on to greener pastures. He told her to learn to love someone else. He offered up Zane. She protested. He told her Zane loved her and everyone else in the world can see it. He was on and on about how happy she can be with Zane with a brand new life. "Zane loves you, Britt. HE'S IN LOVE WITH YOU" (he didn't yell). She heard that last bit. She made him repeat it but to no avail -- her hearing had gone as suddenly as it had come. He insisted Zane loved her and he had to go. He called Clarice and asked her to look to Brittany who was upset. He's got to go to Sally.

Kathleen is anti-Cass and eating chocolate cake. MJ can't get anything out of her about what happened. Kathleen told her she should've jumped at Jamie. MJ figures he's not even speaking to her. He said he was. MJ said "JAMIE." Kathleen left as they were joyfully reunited. He gave her flowers. A lot more kissing and apologizing and complimenting. They feel lucky. MJ wishes Kathleen and Cass could be as lucky.

Daphne got to Cass'.

Adrienne told Larry she made a point of getting to know her customers rather intimately. Larry said 'twas a good point. She told him she knew he was a cop. He said he was off duty. She told him her liquor license was in order and she never served minors. He said he was just there to have a good time. She said she'd had a few experiences with cops. He asked if she'd ever danced with one. "I don't" she said. He said she didn't know what she was missing. Catlin appeared and asked Larry when he was doing there. Larry was cordial. Adrienne disappeared with Larry calling after her that she owed him a dance. Catlin told Larry Clarice was home ALONE. Larry said "So?" and Catlin got mad. Larry told him to stay out of his personal life. Catlin accused him of working on something. Larry denied it. Catlin didn't believe him. Larry biffed off telling Sally to try to loosen Catlin up a little. Catlin apologized to her. She told him to forget it.

Jamie brought champagne. Further apologies and kissing. He called her incredible. He asked her why she didn't want to move in with him. She said she wanted champagne, not guilt. He told her to open the dessert box. Inside of which were chocolate éclairs and the key to his apartment. He hopes she'll change her mind or at least come over a lot. She looked strange.

Cass told Daphne what a good idea Bay City as a base for Lesoleil would be. She was impressed. She said she had to leave. He offered her wine and poached salmon. She decided to stay. He went to the kitchen. She said to herself he was just what they needed.

MJ said she couldn't accept it. She's under stress at work. He got her to admit that it wasn't work. (Vince is in California looking for work and keeping an eye on Ben.) He wants a commitment. She shies away from them but she does love him. Larry called for MJ to take his drug samples to the hospital tonight. Jamie wants the truth about what's going on with Larry.

Larry left. He said he was going home so I guess Catlin was a little appeased. He apologized to Sally again though. She took him off into a corner to dance. He said maybe they should've stayed in Ireland like they'd discussed there. She said no, as long as they were together it didn't matter to her where there were. He told her he'd loved her the first time he met her and he loved her more now. She said that was all that mattered. He said they'd be together forever and all of this would be forgotten. She said all of this would've been worth it. Kissing. "Come on, you stud" said she "Let's dance." I cringed. They danced and kissed ("For what is dancing but making love set to music?") and he said nothing would ever come between them.

Britt got out a radio back at her room and switched it on. It played Born in the USA but she couldn't hear it. Zane came in and told her about the lake. He's returned with perch ("a big son of a gun") for breakfast for them. "Don't love you? Who? ... no, no, I don't believe it's possible to be too good to someone ... I don't want your thanks, Britt ... now you let me decide if I'm wasting my time ... you want me to go back to Oregon ... alone? ... I heard you."

MJ couldn't explain. She and Jamie quarreled. He said they should make an effort right now. She said she was in a hurry. He said they'd talk later tonight. She said she didn't know. He said they both work 18 hour days and what they needed was to come home to each other at night and hold each other OR DID SHE PREFER SLEEPING ALONE. She said that was an awful thing to say. He said it was a desperate thing to say. She said she'd deal with it tomorrow. He said he wasn't going to wait forever.

"You want me to go back to Oregon to make a new life for myself while you stay here and live in the past? No, no, you DON'T have Catlin and I do worry about you. Yes, yes, I helped you find him and I think maybe that was a big mistake. No, I'm not going to argue with you." she said there was nothing for him to do there. He said there was a lot for him to do there and what would happen to her if Catlin never took her back. "What happened that showed that Catlin loves you? Oh, great. You saw him at Clarice's. So what did he say? Huh? Did he tell you that you and he were going to get back together again? No, I didn't think so. So what did he do? What did he say? He said that I love you. I thought you knew that all along. I do love you, Britt. But -- I'm not going to make your mistake. I am not going to live in the past." He said he was going to make a new life for himself in Bay City and he'd hoped it would be with her but he wasn't going to wait around for something that might never happen. He hoped she realized what they could've had together. "I just hope you don't realize it too late." (A speech that would've won MY heart, you bet.) He left.

Larry got home. Clarice wants him to share his troubles with her. He said she had to trust him and he loved her. Catlin came in. Clarice asked if he'd had a good time. ASK LARRY he said. Larry managed to sound as though he hadn't been chatting up Adrienne (no one mentioned her so it was easy) but playing poker. Clarice was sent to get Larry a beer. Catlin just glared at him.

Kathleen's eating mint chocolate chip ice cream. McKinnon depression. The phone rang. Kathleen said she wasn't in. MJ answered. It was Cass. She pretended it was Pops. Kathleen got on the line and hit her. Cass gloated for a bit. MJ ate the ice cream. Cass sounded like he'd been having sex with Daphne. He kissed the phone loudly. Kathleen complained about the loss of ice cream until MJ told her Jamie'd given her her walking papers.

Sally returned home enthusing about her evening with Catlin and sure everything would work out ashamed of herself for worrying at all. Liz told her (like it was the end of the world) that Kevin hadn't wanted to be read to he wanted her (Liz) to learn sign language so she could be Britt's friend too. She thinks it's gone too far.

Catlin asked Larry why he'd lied to Clarice. Larry told him to mind his own business if he wanted to live in his house. Catlin said there must be something important going on policing if he was like this with Clarice. Larry tried to make a nice little speech about how he hoped it wasn't happening to Catlin but sometimes married life got to be a real grind but what Clarice didn't know ... Catlin didn't buy that. He raved about investigations. Larry told him in a raised voice to go boil his head. MJ called to say the lab results would be ready in the morning. For Catlin's benefit Larry called her babe and told her to sleep tight. Catlin looked like to kill him.

Hey there toots put on your dancing boots and come dance with me.
Come dance with me what an evening for some Terpsichore.
Pretty face I know a swinging place so come dance with me.
Romance with me on a crowded floor.
And while the rhythm swings what lovely things I'll be saying.
For what is dancing but making love set to music playing.

Adrienne--fem of Adrian--of Adria, from the name of two Italian cities, or the Adriatic sea.
