Marley tried not to dress up.
Cass is going to drop in on Donna. No school for Dee.
Perry's accident was announced on the radio. The Corys hope Carl dashes. Jamie tried to talk Mac into telling the police about CLH. They argued.
Carl thinks the doctor's taking too long. Nancy feels better.
The Dr.'s calling the police. Carl interrupted him before he got through. He went back into the examining room. He said Nancy had a concussion. Carl reminded Nancy that she had always been a little clumsy like that. The doctor pointedly assured her that all would be well. He tried to take a long time. Carl tried to hurry. The Dr. went to get medication.
Ada is convinced Nancy's not dead. She yelled at Jamie for thinking it. Jamie was much abashed. Mac described the possible scenario of the abduction of Nancy and Perry's assistance. Ada hopes Nancy & Rachel thwart Carl somehow.
Rachel dissolved and howled and pounded and hollered "You win" and whimpered apologies to Mac.
Donna told Marley to dress up. Marley submitted. Donna wants the people at the country club to see how proud she is of her. Marley went to change. Donna enlisted Maisie's help as a maid for the interview. I hate Maisie.
Kathleen asked Liz to see about getting her a secretary. Peter says she needs one. Liz doesn't seem to like her. Sally arrived. They have a presentation on the magazine for Peter. Sally: Hey, how's Cass? Liz: Cass? CASS WINTHROP? Kathleen: He's fine, same old Cass. Liz: You know Cass Winthrop, Kathleen? Sally: They're DATING, Aunt Liz. Liz: He managed to get over Cecile de Polonac? Kathleen: Um, I think I forgot something in my office, I'll be -- I'll be back in a second. Exit Kathleen. Sally: VERY, VERY SUBTLE, Aunt Liz. Liz: Anyone who would date an overgrown OVERSEXED boy like Cass Winthrop is not accustomed to subtlety and I don't like her attitude. Sally: She's a very good person -- Liz: Oh, SALLY. You -- um, oh, well. How's Catlin? Glad to be back from Wyoming? Sally: Yeah, we're both glad. Liz: Well, I have MY dress for YOUR wedding, all you have to do is call and let me know when you set the date. (What does Aunt Liz know about Cass' sex life, anyway? I don't think much of her judgement. She seems to dote on Peter, too.) Enter Peter. Exit Liz. Sally thanked Peter for helping Catlin. Peter: I wasn't sure whether Catlin thought I knew what I was talking about. Sally: He was -- frightened. Peter: Well you can't ignore the past. It just comes back and ruins the present. Sally: Catlin knows that now. Peter: So do I. It ruined what you and I had. Sally: PETER. (Phone buzz.) Sally Frame. Yeah, thank you, Gertie, I'll take it in here, HI honey. (Peter turned a vivid shade of green -- combined illness and jealousy, of course -- and looked the other way.) Uh, no, Kevin's going to be eating dinner with Joey Rogers tonight/You're kidding, right?/Well, because you can't cook, that's why.
The doctor turned on the radio and rushed to call the police. Nancy asked Carl why he'd brought her to a doctor. Carl was very sweet and told her his quarrel was not with her but with Mac and everything would be all right if she did as she was told. She cried and said she was scared. He soothed her. He said she needn't be scared, she was Perry's girl. Carl's impatient. He fiddled with the radio and heard KBAY greatly exaggerating the report of his son's [near] death. Nancy's upset. So's Carl. The doctor got through to the police but by the time he returned to the examining room Carl had picked up Nancy and fled.
Lily asked Dee about Frankie. Dee said they used to be such great friends like telepathic but now he seemed so far away and she didn't feel she could talk to anyone. She thinks maybe she should go back to the detention centre. Lily told her not to give up. Dee says sometimes she thinks she could make it [debbing] if allowed to do it her own way. Lily told her to tell Cass and if she feels unvocal to draw it.
Mrs. Royer was surprised to see Donna answering her own door. Donna says her housekeeper has the flu. She took her coat and left her with Marley. Enid: We have met before, you know. Marley: We have? Enid: There's no reason why you should remember, you were -- 5, 6 years old. It was at the country club. You were with your brother, and you were learning to jump your first pony. Marley: Oh, Bully. Um -- that was his name. Bully. Enid: Oh, well, you were practically born on a horse, weren't you, dear? Marley: There were a few steps in between. Enid: What I mean to say is it is such a pleasure to interview a girl of your charm and refinement and such obvious good breeding. Marley: Bully and I had a lot in common. Maisie brought tea. Donna called her Mary. Marley didn't look pleased. Dear Enid got nasty over the lack of lemon. Donna kept Marley from springing to Maisie's defense. The doorbell rang. Marley went to see to it and was all too pleased to admit Cass. Enid disapproves of sick housekeepers. Cass exerted a good deal of Winthrop charm and charmed Enid silly with tales of the one and only Jackie and publishing and the marvellous cotillion. Cass saw Maisie as Mary. Said nothing.
Larry rushed to the Corys to tell them the doctor's tale. They hope Carl calls again. Mac's a jerk. Larry said they have to work together. Jamie agreed pointedly. Larry asked if they had further info. Mac neglected to mention CLH. Larry left. Mac says Carl has some decency taking Nancy to a doctor ('course he does. Shakespeare.) He hopes Carl will hear the bulletin and respond.
Carl checked the Perry story with someone. He was relieved to hear 'twas exaggerated. He's mad at Mac for lying like that.
Cass' hold on Mrs. Royer collapsed (after he pumped her about interviews and realised Dee is lacking the breeding she looks for. Donna was spitefully glad.) when she remembered he'd been in the morning paper on the front page in a dress. Cass left hastily. Enid seemed rather faint.
They're going to call the magazine Nouvelle. Peter has a call in his office. He left. Kathleen asked Sally about her friendship with Peter. They discussed marriage and Catlin and Cass. Kathleen was a little perturbed to hear Catlin & Sally had seen how she felt about Cass in Majorca and (ick) TALKED ABOUT IT. Kathleen says they shouldn't mention Cass and (inhale) marriage in the same breath. Sally said she wants everyone to get married right now. Peter returned and invited them out for drinks. Sally proclaimed a dinner date and dashed. Kathleen and Peter discussed the success of the magazine and Peter's ambition. Kathleen: I've never seen you this determined before. Peter: Maybe I never knew what I wanted so much before. Kathleen: What do you want? Peter: Oh, nothing really. Just fame, unlimited power. Little things like that. Kathleen: Oh, right. Exit Peter. I wonder if that's all you want. (ASTUTE WOMAN.)
Nancy was returned to Rachel. She was told the whole story.
Marley yelled at Donna for what she did to Maisie. Maisie and Donna said they were friends and everything was wonderful. Marley was appeased. They're going to tell Cass Maisie's just earning extra money maiding for the Loves.
Ada discussing the link with the firstborn with Jamie. Jamie's mad at Carl. Ada says Rachel & Nancy will be back.
Rachel told Nancy not to give up. Nancy asked if it were possible that Carl's changing and getting nicer. Rachel told her fiercely not a chance. He's insane. Nancy's scared.
Sally returned to the cabin to find that Catlin had set up a record player operating a rotisserie with little bitty fowl on it. She was astounded and pleased ALL AT ONCE. Sally: I love you -- what is the occasion? Catlin: Well, first of all, I love you. Which is enough. And secondly, you LAUGHED at my cooking ability, which was a challenge. And also, um, I may not have time to cook from now on because I'll be too busy with my new job. Sally: Job? Catlin: At the hospital. Sally: What are you going to be doing there? Catlin: There's an opening in the security division, An I think I'd like to do that until I get another shot at being a cop. Sally: Honey, that's wonderful. Did you give my mom's name as a reference? Catlin: Nope. Sally: Why not? Catlin: Because I wanted to do it on my own (and also if he went about giving Alice's name as a reference he'd be linked to all these pregnancies and then where would we be?) A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Sally: John Wayne? Catlin: GARY COOPER. Sally: GARY COOPER, OH, I'm sorry. Catlin: That's okay, I know how you can make it up to me. Sally: How long to those chickens have to cook? Catlin: Oh, a LONG time. Laughter and kissing.
Peter on the phone. He wants the photo on display for all and sundry to see and comment upon. He wants SOMETHING on Josh. "Where there's smoke, there's fire, right, Catlin?"
Dee seemed to be sketching Cass. Cass arrived and gloomed about Mrs. Royer. Dee was about to tell him her ideas when Kathleen drifted in and fell on his neck. She had a good day except for Liz. Dee left. Kathleen wants dinner with Cass his place. Dee's not thrilled.
Carl told Rachel his quarrel was not with her and Nancy. He wants only to kill Mac. Rachel flared up at that. Carl spoke softly about children asleep. He left. Rachel asked what he was going to do to them. He said merely "tomorrow" and left.
I HOPE KATHLEEN KEEPS AN EYE ON PETER. I have mostly only my ears. Insufficient for keeping him in line.
Will traumatized females be at the hospital with our security officer?
Horrible imitations when not prolonged and deeply misinterpreted are actually rather pleasantly funny.
