ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

January 4, 1985

Catlin and Sally are being terribly silly. I don't want to talk about it.

Larry's preparing to go to London. He'll be working with a man from Scotland Yard called Donaldson. MJ's worried about Kathleen. Larry: I don't hold Winthrop in the highest esteem, but grand theft auto just isn't his style. MJ: Yeah, but until we find him she is going to make my life miserable. Enter Kathleen. Kathleen: Okay, what's the story? MJ: Really miserable. Hello, Kathleen. Kathleen: MJ, I THOUGHT you were my sister I THOUGHT I could trust you to take care of things. MJ: What haven't I taken care of? Kathleen: It's been twenty-two hours since I reported my car stolen. Twenty-two hours since Cass has been missing. MJ: A little less, but -- Kathleen: WHERE are the roadblocks?

Carl is at Donna's on the phone arranging a tryst with someone in the stables. Who I know not. Donna came in and told him to get out. He wants to keep his horses in the stable and he'll pay her. She said she'll have his horses destroyed if he doesn't take them out. Carl asked after Marley. He said that Marley would be unlikely to forgive her if she found out that her sister were really her DEAR OLD MUM. He said she'd probably find it sordid. Donna told Carl she'd stop him and show the police the ring he gave her but when she picked up the phone Marley came in. Carl left. He told Donna he'd be in the stables.

Wallingford: You sure have some pretty stuff, Felicia. Felicia: Not pretty enough, I'm afraid. Wallingford: Oh, give yourself credit. How many people would hock the crown jewels to help out a friend? Felicia: Yeah, but it didn't work so what good is it? Wallingford: well at least you managed to unhock it, so you're breaking even. Felicia: I can't believe that Tony wouldn't accept this cash. I mean you think he'd take it as a partial payment. [Phone ringing.] Hello? MR. Wallingford? Yes, just a moment, please. Mr. Wallingford. Wallingford: Thank you, Miss Gallant. [ˈɡælənt, natch.] Felicia: Oh, yes, you're welcome. Wallingford: Hello. Find out. Felicia: Was that one of your associates again? Wallingford: Just a guy I know. Felicia: Any word on Cass? Wallingford: No, nothing. Felicia: I'm worried. Wallingford: I know. Felicia: I'm sure Kathleen must be frantic. Wallingford: I have a feeling he's going to show up. Felicia: I just hope when he does he's in one piece. [Phone ringing.] Do you believe this? All, right, all right. Hello? Yes, he is, just a moment. Guess who this is for. Wallingford: Me. Felicia: Yes. Wallingford: Thank you. Felicia: You're more than welcome. Wallingford: Hello. Ask him. Felicia: Boy, you don't waste any time on the phone. Wallingford: Felicia, I have a feeling that Cass is gonna be all right. Felicia: Why, did this guy tell you -- Wallingford: No, but think of this: maybe when Tony found out that Krystle is really Cass, Cass simply went into hiding. Felicia: I'd like to believe that but I keep remembering how you looked when you were beaten up. Wallingford: I keep remembering how I felt. Felicia: How could anybody that looks that sweet be that vicious, huh? Wallingford: That's what they said about Babyface Nelson. Felicia: AND HOW COULD CASS EVEN BORROW MONEY FROM A LOAN SHARK, HUH? He must be a -- [ringing of phone] What is this, my job today? Hello. YES. Just a moment. What do you do, write your name on phone booths? Wallingford: Oh, that's funny Felicia. Oh oh oh. Hello? After a brief conversation he told Felicia he had to leave. Felicia: Where are you going? Wallingford: My laundry's ready. I have to go get it. Felicia: What? Where? Wallingford: Felicia, relax. I'll be back.

Kathleen: What do you mean, there are no road blocks? MJ: We are not blocking any roads, that's what I mean. Kathleen: Why not? Larry: Well, that's not our regular procedure, Kathleen. Kathleen: Well then do something irregular. Larry: We don't have the manpower. Kathleen: I'll say. MJ: What do you mean by that? Kathleen: Oh, nothing except that you're doing absolutely nothing. MJ: Do you think we're just playing games down here, Kathleen? Kathleen: I don't know what you're doing down here, MJ. MJ: We do not seal off the city for a stolen car. Larry: Yeah, that's pretty much reserved for murderers and bank robbers. MJ: Not for men who wear dresses and owe money to loan sharks. Kathleen: I knew it was a mistake coming here. MJ: Your mistake was getting involved with Cass Winthrop in the first place. Kathleen: WHO IS INVOLVED? He stole my car. MJ: And we're trying to get it back. Kathleen: You call this trying? MJ: Yes. Now if you will just try leaving me alone so I can get some work done. Kathleen: I guess you have to be a Cory to get things done around here. MJ: WHAT did you say? Kathleen: Oh, if it was a Cory's car that was stolen -- Larry: No, that's not fair, Kathleen. Kathleen: But true. MJ: Oh, thank you, Cass. Kathleen: What? MJ: Doesn't she remind you of Cass? Larry: well, she's a heck of a lot better looking. MJ: When Cass was torturing me about Cecile he would always say, "If Cecile were only a CORY I'd get something DONE around here." SAME THING. SAME THING. You and --. An officer came in and told them that the captain wanted to see MJ and Larry. They left but Kathleen said she'd wait there. The officer is called Mel Gibbons. He told Kathleen he's heard all about her from MJ. Mel: My name is Mel. Mel Gibbons. Kathleen: Well, I'm very pleased to meet you, Mr. Gibbons. Mel: Same here. Kathleen: So you must've known MJ for quite a while. Mel: Oh yes, we go way back. We were sophomores together in college. And we studied psychology together. Kathleen: Oh, really. Mel: Yeah. It's just a weird coincidence that we work here together. Kathleen: well, you must have been on the force for years now, huh? Mel: Oh, nonono. Actually I'm kind of new. Kathleen: Yeah? Well don't these little doodad stripe things mean every five years or something like that? Mel: Oh no, those just mean, um, sorta like -- injuries incurred. Kathleen: You were wounded? Mel: Well, yes. Kathleen: Shot? Mel: As a matter of fact. Kathleen: So these little doodads here really stand for bravery, right. Mel: well now, I wouldn't go that far. Kathleen: Oh, I think you should, I think you have a lot of stories -- you know, I don't think MJ -- I don't know if she told you this or not, but I'm a publisher. Mel: No, she didn't tell me. Kathleen: Yes, I am, and I would LOVE to hear all of your stories. Why don't you just sit down here and tell me all about your brave acts . . .

Carter and Thomasina are going to go to Calculus. Tom doesn't want to go to Smiley's. Or to study with Carter. She says nothing's wrong but he doesn't believe her.

Sally's going to look after Bobby for Joyce with Catlin's help. She's worried because Kevin was grumpy at breakfast. She's going to talk to him. Joyce appreciates Sally's doing this. Kevin and Bobby are going to play together. Bobby's adoption should come through next week. Kevin and Bobby got into a fight. Kevin hit Bobby.

Mark went to visit Donna. Apparently Peter's stalking Emily in Europe. Donna's worried about him. Mark apologized for what Donna went through for shooting him (of course she didn't, but you know what I mean). Donna asked Mark to come to dinner sometime. Mark commended her for having Carl ejected. He said she can call him anytime.

Sally told Kevin he mustn't hit people. Kevin refused to apologize so Sally told him she wouldn't take him to the movies tonight. She also took Bobby out to the kitchen for milk and cookies but refused him any until he apologized. Catlin tried to comfort Kevin (who was convinced Sally hated him) by telling him Sally's crazy about him and would probably change her mind about the movies. He even went so far as to promise to take him himself if she didn't. Sally overheard.

Carter's trying to talk to Thomasina. Marley appeared so Carter left. Marley thinks there's something wrong with Tom but she denied it. Marley left. Thomasina: Nothing's wrong. Nothing (so tearfully).

Larry: Hi, Jamie. Jamie: Hey, Larry. Where's Kathleen? MJ: I don't know, and I don't care, as long as she is out of here. Larry: You should have seen the sparks fly in here earlier, Jamie. Jamie: Oh, I've seen the two of them square off before a couple of times. Oh, by the way, Larry, I talked to the people in London and they're going to meet you -- [Enter Wallingford.] Wallingford: Big news. MJ: What happened, Wallingford? Wallingford: Um -- I'd like to speak to Miss McKinnon. Alone. MJ: We'll go out into the hall. We'll be right back . . . Larry? Larry: MJ and I are partners. Anything you have to say to her you can say to me. We are all working for the same thing, Wallingford. Isn't that right, MJ? MJ: Does this have anything to do with Kathleen? Wallingford: Well, in a way, maybe. MJ: I think maybe Larry should hear. Wallingford: Well it may be all right for Larry to hear but what about him? Jamie: Actually we've met. Wallingford: Yes, I know, through Felicia. You're Mr. Frame. Jamie: Jamie. Wallingford: Jamie, I'm Wallingford. Jamie: I know. Wallingford: You're Mac Cory's son. MJ: Jamie was the first person to tie Carl Hutchins to the horses. Wallingford: Hey, what a scam. How'd you find out about it? Larry: That is a long story. We don't have that much time, Wallingford. MJ: Look, is it about the horses? Is that the news? Wallingford: Well, I've been doing some checking around -- you know I used to be a professional informant, y'know? Jamie: No, I didn't know. Wallingford: Yeah, that's how I met Miss de Pollac. As I recall you had something to do with her too, right? Jamie: Something -- MJ: you were checking around, Wallingford, and -- Wallingford: I talked to a few of my ex-colleagues, what few there are left -- I don't know what it is, it must be the economy or something -- Larry: WELL WHAT DID THEY SAY? Wallingford: Carl Hutchins is running Stowaway today in the fifth at Bay City Downs. (Apparently he's an unofficial entry. Not to be released until immediately before the race. Jamie is going to tell Mac and they'll check it out.)

Carl is arranging the sale of Stowaway to take place immediately after the race. Discreetly. He has papers giving him Sandy's power of attorney. (If you recall, Stowaway's in Sandy's name.)

Kathleen: well, you did your best, Felicia. Felicia: You know I would have thought that this bracelet alone would be worth two or three thousand dollars. I should've known it was a fake. Louis gave it to me. Kathleen: Who's Louis? Felicia: My ex-husband. (Editor's note: Also Cecile's father, if memory serves me correctly.) A thief. A wonderful, romantic, charming thief. Kathleen: There's got to be some other way we can get the money. Felicia: you know, I keep thinking that even if we do get the money it may be too -- well. Kathleen: IT'S NOT. So just get that idea right out of your head. Felicia: Right, yes, fine, I'm sure he's fine. Kathleen: Yes, if he were dead, then Tony wouldn't even show up here, right? Felicia: Right. Absolutely. [Enter Wallingford.] Wallingford: I'm back, Felicia. Oh, hi, Kathleen. Felicia: So where's your laundry? Wallingford: They starched my socks. I made them do it over. Felicia: Starched your socks, really. That's the best you could come up with. Wallingford: Any word of Cass, Kathleen? Kathleen: Now look, we've got to come up with some way to get the money, the cash, without hocking any more jewellery. Wallingford: Don't look at me. I'm tapped city. Kathleen: well, we're Winthrop Publishing, we have assets. Felicia: Oh, we do? Kathleen: Yeah. Felicia: Now that's a joke. Don't you think that's a joke? We owe everyone in town. Kathleen said they had manuscripts and they started in to read them but the phone rang. -- it was Cass -- and Kathleen was going to meet him on a street corner. Felicia and Wallingford pointed out that Tony might follow her. Kathleen: Oh, you're right, what am I going to -- Officer Gibbons. [Exit Kathleen.] Wallingford: Where is she going? Felicia: Who's Officer Gibbons? Wait a minute. What's this about your laundry?

Thomasina talked to Alice about Carter and sex and so on. They talked like Thomasina is pregnant. (Alice asked discreet questions about precautions and talked about the beauty of making love and its serious repercussions.) Alice is going to take a blood sample. (I guess this is a test.)

The coach asked Carter what's wrong. They talked about Thomasina and sex and males bragging about conquests.

Sally told Catlin off for undermining her authority. (Huzzah huzzah.) He said he felt sorry for Kevin and was trying to help make him feel better. Sally said they shouldn't give Kevin mixed messages. Catlin asked if she wanted him to butt out (lost his temper rather) and Sally said no but they shouldn't undermine each other. Catlin didn't understand what she was so upset about and when she tried to calm him down he snatched up his coat and left SLAMMING THE DOOR. Kevin came down and asked if Sally were still mad at him. Sally said she wasn't mad at him Kevin said he loved her. She said she loved him. (but he shouldn't hit people).

Mark came to see Alice at the hospital. He suggested that they have Donna and Marley over to dinner. Alice said that although Donna is not one of her favourite people she'll think about it. Mark told her he's moving out. Alice is made unhappy by this but Mark said he'd stop by her doorstep regularly.

Larry is still on the verge of leaving for London. Clarice has packed oceans of sweaters. MJ and Cory are agreed that Larry's passport photo makes him look weird. Clarice doesn't agree. Catlin stopped by to see Larry before he left. Clarice and Larry asked about his wedding plans but he just looked sort of depressed and kept his responses monosyllabic. (The poor dear. But he was a jerk.)

Sally and Kevin are saying good-bye to Mark. Sally was dispatched to look for something for Mark and while she was gone Kevin and Mark had a talk. Kevin: Why do people have to get married? Mark: Well. Because when two people love each other a lot they want to be together. Kevin: I love Sally but she's getting married to Catlin. Mark: But Kev, that doesn't mean that she doesn't love you too. There are all kinds of love, y'know. Sally returned. Mark left. They'll miss him.

Cass: Totally unbelievable. Gibbons: I realise that. Cass: Don't you guys have anything better to do with your time? Gibbons: This way, please. Cass: I know the way. This is INCREDIBLE. Gibbons: Rest your bones, Winthrop. Cass: you guys don't have any right to do this. You have absolutely no right to arrest citizens for no reason. Gibbons: We have a reason. Cass: What? What are the charges? Gibbons: I already told you. Possession of stolen property. Cass: and I already told you I didn't steal that car. It was lent to me by a friend of mine. Kathleen McKinnon. Who also happens to own the car. You could look it up, you know. Gibbons: Save it for the judge. Cass: I demand to see my lawyer. Gibbons: Well, you'll have to talk to Detective McKinnon about that. She's working this case. Cass: Oh, terrific, where is she? Eventually Kathleen arrived. Cass kissed her and told her to tell this jerk that there's been some mistake. Gibbons: I did get the right guy, didn't I? Kathleen: Oh, yes, this is the man who stole my car.
