Matthew and Kevin got settled out by the pool. Tracy joined them. They are enjoying not being in English class. Kevin pushed Matthew into the pool.
Jake told Marley he thought they should move back to Bay City permanently.
Lisa arrived. Rachel said Amanda didn't suspect a thing.
Ada came by Amanda and Sam's. Amanda refused to budge. She stomped into the bathroom. Ada explained to Sam that Amanda was nesting. Amanda emerged from the bathroom with a mop and pail. She told Ada she couldn't come and see the nursery because she had too much to do. Ada very cleverly told her that on the window ledge in the nursery there was a mourning dove's nest with eggs in it and that Lucifer [a cat, I take it] was camped beneath it in anticipation. Amanda insisted on going right away in her mopping clothes to save the poor birds from her horrible brother's cat. Exit Amanda and Ada. Sam mopped and thought about Amanda's mood swings. He smiled tenderly.
Lisa told Rachel she thought she was too safe to interest Jamie. Rachel said Vicky didn't require Jamie to be a mature adult. She advised Lisa not to worry too much about Jamie's feelings and to do what she wanted. A whole lot of women arrived, including Vicky.
Marley was not pleased. Jake said she was being difficult and she had to pitch in if they were going to work their problems out.
Lounging around the pool got boring pretty quickly. They kind of wish they knew other people. Enter Mary. She gave them the phone number of the party phone. They were unenthusiastic. They laughed about what geeks would be desperate enough to call in. Mary didn't appreciate it. She headed back to the shower. Matthew threw the phone number away.
Scott visited with Sam. He wants a painting to liven up his office walls. Sam asked to have a will in exchange.
Vicky and Lisa don't get along. Ada arrived with Amanda, who was surprised to find the nursery so crowded.
Marley said she needed time. Jake told Marley he had fallen in love with her because of the strength within her. She asked for a couple of weeks. He took it as a prelude to divorce. He said he wouldn't make the break easy. He kissed her. She said sex didn't solve everything.
Cheryl and Liz and Ronnie sort of lip-synched Baby Love for the assembled company. I say sort of because they sang along with the record a little. Amanda enjoyed herself tremendously. Lisa and Vicky stepped outside. Mary borrowed Amanda's wedding ring and tide it to a bit of string to determine the baby's sex.
Lisa told Vicky Jamie was at a conference in Palm Springs for a few days and she'd spent last evening with him. She said Vicky must think very little of herself to resort to lies and trickery. Vicky said Jamie was with her because he wanted her. Lisa said it was only because she'd schemed him into position. They rejoined the party.
The ring results were inconclusive. Amanda started opening presents. Lisa asked Mary if she had time to see her professionally.
After all the obnoxious things they had said about the geeks who would call a party phone, the young people began to express vague interest. Participants have code names. In a burst of romanticism Matthew said Tracy's should be Danae, because she had appeared to Zeus as a shower of gold and Tracy resembled a shower of gold beside the pool in her bathing suit. [I couldn't see it. And anyway, women didn't make a habit of appearing to Zeus in disguise because there was never any call for it. He did the disguising that had to be done. I looked Danae up — she was the mother of Perseus — and sure enough Zeus had been the shower of gold. Matthew is not going to worm his way into my heart, even with Classics.] Tracy giggled. Kevin wanted to be Captain Cool. Matthew wanted it. Tracy said they could both have it. Matthew phoned and put it on the speakerphone. They expected to hear dumb stuff. They came in on a discussion on American foreign policy.
Sam told Scott he wasn't expecting to die but he was aware of his mortality. He admitted he didn't have much to bequeath. Scott advised him not to think about death too much. Scott suggested they crash the party.
Everyone oohed and aahed over Amanda's gifts. Amanda's water broke.
Teen talk. Frivolous stuff. Serious stuff. Not geeky stuff.
Sam and Scott left with a stuffed giraffe.
Ronnie phoned the hospital. Vicky went to fetch Sam. Ada and Rachel helped Amanda out.
Marley told Vicky about Jake's infidelity. Vicky comforted her. Marley said she couldn't bear it if it happened again.
Mary told the young people about Amanda. Matthew confessed they'd called the geekline. He said they'd be willing to volunteer. Mary was pleased.
Sam and Scott were surprised to find no party.
Amanda breathed and asked for Sam.
