Donna was mad at Michael because he had assumed that she would accept Mikey. He cajoled. He said that he had been able to assume it because he knew what a compassionate person she was and that she wouldn't disappoint Victoria. Donna unbent. Mikey ran in. Michael scooped him up. Donna distanced herself.
Mary was thrilled to find Vince making dinner. Jake and Marley are expected. Jake arrived sans Marley.
Cass interrogated Nicole about her date with Drew. She gave him details of the picnic. He insisted she come out with him.
Mary expressed disappointment that Marley couldn't come. Jake said she didn't feel well. When asked how long they would be in town, he lunged at the arriving Cheryl, desperate for a diversion. Jake and Cheryl went off to attend to something. Vince told Mary he was afraid Jake and Marley were having problems. Kissing.
Cass aims to take Nicole to the Pelican, a jazz club. He told her he had legal business with Harry Calhoun. Nicole said he should relinquish the law stuff to someone like Scott. She told him to phone Scott and ask him to bring Cheryl. Caso obliged. Scott agreed. Cass tried to make Nicole admit her picnic with Drew had been boring. She wouldn't.
Seeing Mikey and Michael playing together, Donna bellowed for Bridget to take Mikey away for his bath. Donna feels awful because everyone but her is attached to Mikey. Michael tried to reassure her. She hopes to be rid of Mikey soon.
Mary told the family about the hotline the hospital was going to have. it's sort of a combination hotline party line, so young people can talk to each other with trained people at hand. Scott phoned and asked Cheryl out. She accepted. She told her family it wasn't a date.
Harry welcomed Cass and Nicole enthusiastically until he found out Cass wasn't lawful. He agreed to make do with Scott, rather reluctantly. Thursday is talent night. Cass ordered blue lagoons. He informed Nicole tonight they played by his rules.
Donna beautified herself. Michael approached her. Kissing. Bridget came down to tell Michael Mikey was ready for bed. Donna did not make a fuss when Michael wanted to tuck Mikey in. He went upstairs. Donna reached for the phone.
Cheryl changed into a black dress. Jake's remarks about her and Scott got on her nerves. She threatened to smack him. Donna called to ask Mary if there was a foster family for Mikey on the horizon. Mary said they were looking. Donna denied anything was wrong. Mary looked concerned. Scott arrived to pick up Cheryl. They left. Mary left Vince and Jake alone.
Harry introduced Tiffany Simone, a talent night singer. She sang a song I assume was called If I Were Your Woman. I didn't particularly like it. Cass and Nicole smiled. Nicole played with Cass' hand. They kissed a lot. Cass suggested going someplace private. They got up to go. Harry stopped them, saying that his lawyer hadn't come yet. Scott and Cheryl came down the stairs. Cass introduced them. Harry complained that Scott was just a kid. Suspiciously, he asked Scott what a writ was. Scott answered correctly. Harry let Cass and Nicole go. Scott and Cheryl were surprised but not displeased to be alone.
Vince counseled compromise, work, and patience.
Mary dropped in on Donna. Donna admitted she felt like an outsider. When Mary suggested removing Mikey Donna refused because it would make her feel guiltier.
Harry told Scott they'd do business during office hours and they could enjoy the evening. Scott and Cheryl decided to go to food.
Michael read The Little Engine That Could to Mikey. Donna listened from the doorway unobserved and ran away.
Cass kissed Nicole and left her at her door. She objected. He was determined.
Mary found Vince sitting alone in the dark. Vince has the feeling that something's going on with Jake and Marley. He goes so far as to suspect MARLEY of infidelity. Mary advised him not to interfere too much. Kissing.
Nicole dreamed of being married to Drew, who would inspect the cleanliness of blonde Biff and Buffy's hands before going to bed. Drew was dull and tied up with business and uninterested in sex. Then she dreamed of Cass, with whom life was red and untidy and casual and sex-filled.
Michael found Donna reading The Little Engine That Could in the dark. She had bought a copy for their baby. She made Michael read the ending aloud. She broke down and cried, saying "I thought I could." He comforted her.
