ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

August 3, 1987

Cass hugged Ada. Vince and Mary began discussing the funeral. Cass went out to sit on the steps. Cheryl followed him.

Jamie called and knocked. Lisa got on the phone to ask about the Pinewood Cabins. I don't like her blouse. At first I thought it was a sweater, but it's a blouse. I don't like it.

Cass and Cheryl chatted. He fled abruptly.

Lisa booked a cabin. (Adam and MJ's surprise vacation was at the Pinetree Inn. How odd.) Jamie went away. Lisa grabbed her bag and escaped.

Cheryl came back in and closed the door. Everyone but Vince went into the kitchen. Diane showed up. Mary came back out and looked a little jealous. Diane was sympathetic all over the place. Mary felt left out but she was very nice. She insisted she stay. The priest left. Vince left Diane and Mary alone. Diane was Kathleen's sixth grade teacher. She used to go on Sunday picnics with the family. She was practically a substitute mother. Mary was envious. Diane told her Vince needed her now. Mary said she needed him. Felicia worried about Cass. Cheryl said she thought he might want to be alone.

Cass went down to the docks. He saw a man with a red-haired woman kissing passionately. A street seller provided them with a red rose.

Jamie came back and, finding the door open, walked in and looked around. He looked in the wardrobe and phoned security to tell them to stop Lisa's car. Then he found a note by the phone about the Pinewood Resort and a phone number. He called it and got the bus station. He stomped out.

Felicia and Wallingford went out after Cass. Cheryl figured Scott was there to comfort Mary but he came over to talk to her. They had a nice chat about deaths in the family. He still wonders about his natural family. They were pleased to be close friends. Vince hugged Diane and said goodbye. She kissed his cheek and left. The party started dancing. Reels. (Those reeling McKinnons.)

The woman offered Cass a flower for his lady. Cass stared at his ring and bought one.

Lisa bought a one-way ticket to Wisconsin. The ticket-seller kept her talking. He said she looked familiar. The bus was pulling out and she fled as he recognised her.

The party dispersed. Vince and Mary discussed Kathleen. Ada told them to go home. Scott said he'd drive Cheryl and Becky home later. They left.

Cass stared at the rose and leaned over the edge of the pier. Felicia and Wally rushed forward in great alarm. Wally: NO, Cass. Felicia: Don't, please. Cass: Do what? Oh, you're kidding. Felicia: We're not kidding. Cass: Are you guys nuts? Felicia: I HOPE SO. Cass: You thought I was going to jump? Wally: Well, kind of. Felicia: We've been worried about you. Cass: AM I ON A BRIDGE? Wally: No, you're not on a bridge. Cass: A causeway, a building, am I on anything I could jump from? Felicia: I don't know what a causeway is. Cass: One of the things that I'm not jumping off of. Felicia: Oh, no. Cass: I mean, the only thing I could do off of this is a racing dive which would merely provide me with a glide across the surface of the lake. Felicia: GOOD. Wally: That's nice. It's a good evening for a swim. Cass: Well I would if I wanted to. Wally: Of course you would. Cass explained about the rose. He threw it into the lake as a gesture.

Jamie interrogated the bus guy. He discovered he'd missed the bus Lisa was on.

Mary broke down about Kathleen at home. She kept Vince from retiring to his bedroom. She said he had to cry. He said he was fine. She made him hug her. Then they kissed. Vince pried her loose and went into his bedroom. Mary leaned against the door. Vince cried. She listened.

Cass and Felicia and Wallingford sat and talked and went home.

Lisa unpacked a little and sat down to write in her journal. She's defeatist. Jamie knocked and refused to leave until she talked to him.

Cass found That Old Carrot's private reserve of cognac under the bar. It's serious cognac. They reasoned that he would want them to drink it before it went bad. They opened it and poured. They toasted old friends.
