ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

June 1, 1988

Sam sketched Amanda while she slept. When Amanda woke up she was repulsive.

Jason and John interviewed construction vets. When the last one left a woman staggered in and explained that her car had died and she'd had to walk. She asked if that was where Frame Construction was interviewing and was pleased to find it was. Her name is Chris MacAleer.

Jamie and Ada [mostly Ada] set up to celebrate Matthew's graduation from high school. Jamie did not appreciate being reminded that the year he had graduated from high school he had married Blaine. Mac and Rachel brought Matthew in. He swaggered.

Sparks came out of the microphone but Felicia was unharmed. Mitch examined it and diagnosed frayed wires. He suggested that the apparatus had been tampered with. Felicia stared. Then Mitch retracted it quickly. He went and phoned Drew Marsden's number but Drew wasn't there. He went back to look after Felicia. He suggested they take a vacation. She agreed to think about it.

Amanda got ready to go to the doctor's. If the baby is a girl they're going to call it Francesca, Julia, or Alexandra. Sam doesn't mind her mood swings. [I mind.] He loves her. [I don't.]

Matthew and Kevin have both managed to graduate from Winston Academy after all, because Winston honored Matthew's public school credits because Mac donated a lot of money. [This is what I hate about Mac. If he manages to wangle a favour because of his money and fame and power, it's his due, but if Carl or anyone ever tried the same thing he was considered completely corrupt.] Matthew was denied champagne. They toasted Matthew and Kevin and summer. Everyone clustered around the cake.

Jason and John took Chris' resume reluctantly and didn't ask her any questions. Chris realized that they didn't intend to consider hiring her because she was a woman. Jason was a pig. John said women weren't as strong as men and he was looking for veterans. She said they had a lot to talk about.

Felicia was subdued. Mitch pressed for a decision about the trip. He was unusually persistent. Felicia was puzzled but pleased. Mitch made reservations for Hawaii.

Matthew received a slew of disappointing graduation presents. Mac gave him a calculator with trigonometric functions. Rachel gave him a sculpture: "It can also be used as an egg cup." Ada's gift, which was co-authored by Amanda, was a sweater with one really long sleeve. Jamie gave him a monogrammed key ring. Mac gave him keys. Matthew stared and ran outside and embraced his brand new Jeep. Everyone laughed. Ada snapped a photo.

Cheryl and Lisa complained about their lack of male companionship.

Jamie and Ada played cards. Ada was surprised Jamie had nothing better to do. She asked about Lisa. She knows about Vicky. She won. He got up to go. She told him she'd heard Lisa would be at Tops tonight. He fled.

Ronnie chatted with Sam while waiting for Amanda. When Amanda returned she had a strange look on her face. She said she was 1 centimetre dilated. Sam didn't really understand what there was to fear.

Jason fled. John said he couldn't hire someone who had demonstrated against the war. Chris said her brother had never come back. Then she decided it was low to use her brother to get a job and stomped out. She ran into Jason, who tried to pick her up. She said she'd buy him a drink if he got John to hire her and kept going. He took up the challenge in a spirit in which I do not think it was intended.

Matthew enthused about his Jeep. Mitch told him he and Felicia were going away. Matthew is irritating. [Not that he whined, or even looked downcast. He just seems so full of himself.] Mitch gave him his father's pocket watch. Wallace Edward Blake. Matthew was moved.

Lisa told Cheryl she wasn't sure what to do about Jamie. Cheryl saw Jamie emerge from the elevator. He came over. Cheryl fled obligingly.

Amanda cried because her feet were too fat for her shoes. Sam was unable to reassure her.

Lisa was not especially receptive. Jamie asked to borrow $5. He conferred privately with a waiter, slipping him some money. The music changed and Jamie asked Lisa to dance.

Various romantic couples did stuff. Jamie and Lisa. Sam and Amanda. Matthew and Tracy. Dancing and/or kissing on all fronts.
