ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

February 2, 1987

Rachel got a little weepy. She told Mitch she guessed she was free. She's muddled. He said she had to be sure.

The McKinnons were poor but nice. Vince and Mary were in love. She thanked him for having brought her to the old apartment but said he was sick and they had to leave. He asked if she would choose love in a hovel again if she had it all to do over.

Donna's bed was empty. George told Michael he didn't know where she'd gone. [George seems to be some form of orderly.] Dr Fisher caught up with Michael and told George he'd sent for security. Michael tried to throttle him in order to get George to tell him what he knew. He had to half kill Dr Fisher before he [Dr Fisher] admitted that Reginald had given him special orders not to tell anyone anything about Donna. Michael phoned Leonard [his lawyer]. Dr Fisher insisted that he knew nothing. Dr Laura Bright wandered up and confirmed it. She knows.

Mary told Vince that she couldn't answer because she doesn't remember anything about her McKinnon life firsthand. He was disappointed. He coughed. She said she couldn't choose between him and Reginald and took him home.

Mitch found out that Mac had rejected Rachel. She wept. He advised her to go after what she wanted no matter whom she hurt.

Laura said that she had authorized Donna's transfer to Bay City General. Michael scowled darkly and set out with Jamie at his heels.

Cheryl looked for Mrs. Markham's phone number. She told Maisie that Scott had probably thrown it out. Maisie has a new dress. [I suspected her of primping for Vince, but she hasn't seen him in months.] Ada advised Cheryl to be reasonable with Scott. Cheryl persisted in being stubborn. A stranger to me [but evidently not to Maisie] arrived. His name is Dave Wilcox. He is Maisie's new beau. Maisie was all girlish delight. Ada gave her time off. Dave said he wanted her to meet a very special lady. Dave is in the merchant marines. Maisie is delirious with joy. [What if it's his mother? She said.] Matthew phoned Ada from the Malones' to say he'd forgotten his pajamas. Ada was disconcerted to hear Rachel hadn't picked him up. She reassured him but decided Rachel could be still at Mitch's. Mac phoned Ada to say he'd forgotten his tuxedo and he wanted her to ask Helen to send it along. He didn't want to phone home because he was afraid he might have to talk to Rachel. Ada yelled at him for having upset Rachel. He became stiff and said he wasn't responsible for her feelings. She found out that Rose wasn't with him. She advised him to talk to Rachel. He said Rachel knew where he was if she wanted to speak to him. Ada told him he was behaving like a jerk. Cheryl overheard her giving Mac advice similar to hers.

Mary took Vince's temperature. 103.5°. She told him earnestly that he could die if he didn't commit himself to the hospital. He refused to let himself be arrested. He tried to get her to choose between him and That Old Carrot again.

Donna was not at Bay City General. Michael attacked an ambulance team without a patient. They admitted that they had bad news. [One of them looks suspiciously like Suzi McCleary of Henderson.] They had engine trouble. They stopped at a light and Donna got out and ran away. Michael was suspicious. She was lost at 4th and Grand, a rotten neighborhood. She was obviously not as sedated as the ambulance attendants had supposed. Michael put men on it.

Mary pointed out that she had chosen the McKinnons seventeen years ago. He seemed sceptical. She said she could have decided she loved him more. He began breathing heavily. She tried to phone Jamie but he wasn't in. She recalled Reginald's pneumonia without doctor in Paraguay and said the housekeeper had made a mustard concoction called a manta del diablo. Vince said he didn't look good in mustard. She said the manta del diablo was very effective. He became delirious and got Reginald and the devil muddled. She went out.

Ada got no answer at Mitch's. Cheryl found Mrs. Markham's phone number with another address written underneath it. She decided Scott had found Mrs. Markham's boyfriend's address. She feels a little better disposed to him as a result, but she asked Ada why he hadn't told her. Ada said, "little one, you are making me crazy." She sent her into the kitchen when Mitch came in.

Rachel arrived at Mac's hotel room. He was surprised. Throughout Rachel kept looking around suspiciously. She took a firm line with him and said he had to make a choice between her and Rose. Rachel: why are you smiling at me? Mac: well, there are certain things that I find slightly humorous every now and again. [He flung open closet doors.] NO ROSE. She isn't in there. Rose, Rose, come out from under there. Rachel: are you thinking this is FUNNY? Mac: the bedroom is right there. Do you want to go look under the bed? Rachel: I SAW you with her at the airport. Mac: YOU CAME TO THE AIRPORT? Well, why didn't you say something? Rachel: I didn't want to spoil the moment. Mac: you mean the moment she gave me my briefcase? Rachel: huh? Mac: you kept me at Mary's Place so long I didn't have time to go by the office and pick up my briefcase so she brought it to the airport and then SHE WENT HOME. Rachel: oh. Mac: Rachel, I have told you again and again, she's a valuable employee and she's a very dear friend and that's IT. Rachel: I see. Mac: so is that what this is all about? Rose? Rachel: well now I'm not so sure. Mac: is that the only reason you came here, because you're jealous?

Donna wasn't found. Michael interrogated the ambulance guys a little. She was strapped in and sedated but they left her for two minutes and she disappeared.

Mary returned with a pound of natural mustard powder. She warned Vince that he would feel worse at first. She made him sit up so she could put the manta del diablo right round him. Anyone would have thought he was quite lucid, if he hadn't tried to convince her to accept his marriage proposal although she was so young. It was rather a sweet proposal. She hugged him wordlessly.

Mac: is that why you're here, because you're jealous? Rachel: no. Mac: really? Rachel: I'm here for several reasons. ONE of them happens to be because I'm jealous. He found out she hadn't heard from Ada but Mitch had advised her to go after him. Mac: I've tried to be very reasonable. Rachel: you've been a jerk. Matt: that's the second time today somebody's called me that. Rachel: I love you, you jerk, and I'm not going to let anybody or anything take you away from me. Well, aren't you going to say anything? Mac: I was just thinking of all the time we've spent fighting and making up and fighting and making up. Rachael: well, is this a making up part? Mac: it would be if you weren't so far away. They flung themselves into each other's arms and kissed passionately.

Mitch told Ada he thought Rachel was in New York patching things up. Ada: how do you feel about that? Mitch: I feel great. Ada: you're a bad liar. Mitch: I'm a GREAT liar, one of the best. Ada: how long since you've eaten? Mitch: I don't remember, Ada. Yesterday. Ada: that's how it is with you single guys. That's why you're also skinny. She told him she didn't want him to break up Mac and Rachel but she was sorry he was unhappy. She preceded to feed him. Cheryl got time off to help Pops.

Mary didn't tell Vince what he'd said. She put the manta del diablo around him. Vince: Are you sure this mustard thing is going to do anything besides making me smell like a hot dog? Mary: it has to. Nothing else has. Vince: now look, if it doesn't work, there's something you've got to know. Mary: don't talk like that. Vince: my will. It's in the second drawer in the kitchen cabinet. Mary: we're not going to need it, you're going to be fine. Vince: I don't even know if it's valid. I had that bum Cass Winthrop draw it up. I must have been nuts to appoint him executor. Mary: now you lie down. Just relax. Vince: this thing is too tight. Mary: I'm sorry. Why don't you have some water? Here. Vince: did Reginald mind when you did this to him? Mary: you would not let me take you to the hospital. This is your choice. Vince: that's right. Mary: I'm sorry. It's the best I can do. Vince: what is this thing called again? Mary: the manta del diablo — the devil's blanket. Vince: then I am in hell. The devil is very beautiful.

Michael found out that only the male ambulance guy and an orderly had strapped Donna in. The guy admitted that they had been acting under Reginald's orders. Reginald has been sent home. Michael took off. Jamie phoned Adam and left a message for him to get over to the Love mansion immediately. He set out after Michael.
