ANOTHER WORLD DAILY SYNOPSIS.

October 1, 1987

Cass told Nicole to trust him and leaped into the elevator. She fumed.

Amanda dropped by Sam's to wake him up. His clock is only seven and a half hours slow.

Victoria extrapolates. It's what makes her so useful to Peter.

Donna found John's collection of photographs of her as a girl. She seemed touched. Then she went through his other personal belongings and found a bundle of letters and more photographs. She sat on the bed to go through them. There was a letter to Clara, saying that he was alive with a bad leg that might have to be amputated, which injury was sustained saving Michael, but it might be better if she didn't tell anyone he was alive because he loved Donna and always would. (I don't suppose it was their aim to sicken me, but they have done.) Donna emoted vigorously.

Victoria made up her mind to stop it. Peter suggested she tell Michael. She said she couldn't in case she was wrong, citing the baby as evidence of probability. Peter said that sometimes couples tried to use babies to patch things up. He told her Donna and Michael had fought last night about his high ideals, and perhaps she and John were bound by 'mutual inadequacy.' Victoria said there was no excuse.

Sam rushed to dress for a meeting. Luckily Amanda had had the foresight to postpone it when he didn't show. He appreciated it. He charged her with a message for his landlady and fled. Amanda phoned Julie Ann and ordered her to ditch work and come over with a screwdriver. (Don't you get the feeling Amanda knows only what she feels like doing and not Responsibility?)

Cass confessed to Nicole he'd talked to Felicia without saying anything about her troubles. He refused to tell her what his plan was. She's a security risk. Loose lips.

John's letters continued to be bitter and full of knowing best about Donna. (Saying she was too restless to be happy inside Michael's picket fence. He said he'd often told her she was like a hurricane waiting to happen. This is more or less what Donna said about John when she told Michael she didn't know him very well. Why wouldn't Michael be aware that Donna was acquainted with his brother? Nicole has been talking as if their families were intertwined. She used to steal his basketball.) She found one letter addressed to Miss Donna Love 101 Lakeshore Drive Bay City Illinois.

Peter was unable to restrain Victoria. He phoned That Old Carrot to impart the Good News.

That Old Carrot was pleased until he saw John come up in the elevator.

Amanda tidied Sam's loft. She picked things up and folded clothes and threw out a copy of Drawing the Female Figure Nude. Such maturity. She operated his compact disc player and danced with one of his sweaters until Julie Ann arrived to tell her she was crazy.

Wally and Nicole demanded to know what Cass' plan was. Cass wouldn't tell them and said they shouldn't tell Felicia. Wally doubted that was possible. John picked up his paycheck and said goodbye. That Old Carrot chatted with him as he made his escape.

Tony was lurking down by the docks when Victoria arrived. She tried to ditch him. He was concerned. She told him not to follow her and stomped on her way.

Donna twitched with respect to her face and read John's letter. (Dear Donna: I know you probably never want to see me again, but I had to try and explain. I'm sorry about what happened in the car last night. No, I'm not sorry it happened. I'm sorry you were crying afterwards. But you have to understand the way you made me feel when you kissed me. For the first time I knew you wanted me as much as I want you. I know that's hard for you because of Mike. I hope one day you can admit to yourself that what we did was make love. WE MADE LOVE. (She shook her head at this point.) I won't bother you any more. I know how you feel about Mike and I can't compete with him. Never could. I just wish you could know how much I --) The letter was unfinished. Donna ran and looked out the porthole and hid when she saw Victoria coming. Victoria barged in and called out to her. She saw the pile of letters. Tony came in. She yelled at him. She said she didn't know whose boat it was and he couldn't help her. He refused to leave her there alone. He asked her to come to a movie and dinner with him. They left together. Donna came out of hiding and poured herself a drink. She was agitated. She berated herself in the mirror.

Amanda rearranged Sam's apartment, confident that Sam would love it. Julie Ann had serious doubts.

Nicole designed for dear life with her seamstress Sophie, who works "comme un lapin."

Sam came home and sat in a chair that wasn't there. MANDY, he said, chagrined and phoned to summon her urgently.

Tony interrogated Victoria. She was uncooperative. He told her he asked only because he cared. She got up to go to the ladies' room and stumbled over That Old Carrot. He told her he'd been trying to reach Donna all afternoon but Bridget said she hadn't been home. Victoria looked thoughtful.

Donna felt sorry for herself. She clutched the gardenia and curled up on the bed. John came in and found her asleep with his letters in disarray around her.

Nicole pronounces pièce de resistance funny.

Sam yelled at Amanda. It sounded weirdly like the argument he'd had with Mac about rearranging the layout, except Amanda was not in the least contrite. She claimed he had practically asked her to do it when he'd told her to tell his landlady he was expecting furniture he didn't have time to wait for. And she felt she should be forgiven because she had done such an attractive job. He told her to stay out of his personal life. She showed him the present she'd left for him. An alarm clock. He thanked her for waking him up and covering for him. Work is good. She felt she had been successful in getting to him.

Victoria was skeptical when That Old Carrot tried to get to her. He blamed Michael for her skepticism. She blamed him.

John woke Donna when he touched her cheek lightly.
