I also went around the old abbey church. Tha's another thing I didn't know: the first king of England was crowned here! Then I went to the Assembly Rooms & Museum of Costume, again with open-to-view (actually it expired on June 14 but I changed the date & they never looked anyway) (to be precise, I went to the church first, then the baths, then lunch, then the Costume Museum.) After that, I wnt to the Botanical Gardens & got a picture of a rather large but very beautiful bonsai tree.

I had to walk all the way back through town (I had left my luggage at the bus station) then up a huge hill to the youth hostel only to be told I couldn't have supper, so I had to walk all the way down again into town then back up again after supper. I phoned Russell after supper & he said he had had a call from Marjorie & he would phone her later tonight. Tomorrow I'm going down into Cornwall somewhere but since I've lost a day I don't know yet where I'm going. I'll write more on the train tomorrow.
