Wapta Icefield - Day 5

August 18, 2012 - Hike out from Bow Hut

Slept in until 05:30 in the somewhat crowded hut (we had had the place to to ourselves for the last couple nights). Theresa made us one last breakfast and then Ivan W, Richard, and I struck out on or own ahead of the gang as we had to get to Calgary. We walked quickly, and only took about two and a half hours to get back. Stopped for a break just before the big rock crossing of the gorge and enjoyed the beautiful day (again). Met a few people as we hiked around Bow Lake, but otherwise saw nobody. Drove to Lake Louise, firkled gear for a bit on the lawn of the hostel after a shower, and then drove to Calgary. Had one of the worst rental car experiences ever (last ever time renting from Budget), and drove back to Lake Louise in a stupidly inappropriate car with a five liter engine and a speed limiter. It even had a volume limiter on the radio (which did not go loud enough). Met the rest of the crew for supper and beers. After sleeping the night, drove to Creston, B.C. the next day for Robin and Nici's wedding.

Hiking along the Bow River.

Approaching the gorge crossing.

Ivan and Rick on top of the boulder bridge.

A big horn sheep I saw in the town of Radium Hot Springs.

Stupid rental car.

Congratulations Nici and Robin!
