Ottawa-Temiskaming Highland Trail 2025

After our fantastic trip hiking the northern section of the OTHT last spring, Deb was anxious to finish off the southern section. We decided to go a little bit earlier this year to try to beat the bugs, and were successful in that regard. Going early meant that we may have other problems however, as we received word a few days prior to departure that Rabbit Lake Road was still covered in snow and unpassable. Additionally, we were notified that Ottertail Creek, a notoriously difficult river crossing was in spring flood and canoes might be required. Fortunately some warm weather took care of the snow problem, and we were able drive the road to plant Deb's truck at our end point so we could hike from Thorne to Rabbit Lake Road. Ottertail creek remained to be seen but we were confident we would find a way to get across. We packed for five days, but managed to complete the trip in only four by putting in some long and challenging days.
