We hoisted our heavy packs with all our climbing gear and four days of food. The hike up to the hut took just under
four hours. Andy and I arrived first, with Mike close on our heels. The rest trickled in over the next thirty minutes
or so.

Our home for the next 4 days
After lunch we struck out onto the glacier to re-familiarize ourselves with glacier travel and engage in some friendly
debate about how best to tie in and carry rope coils. After walking around for a while on the snow we found
an area near Onion peak which had a bit of a drop off which we used for crevasse rescue practice. The snow was very
soft and sloppy in the heat, but mountain axe anchors actually proved to be fairly strong as the sloppy layer was not
too deep into the snowpack. We spent a couple hours doing drills, engaging in more debate about the correct rescue
procedures, and then hiked back to the hut.
How do we do this again?
We share the hut with a Yamnuska group of 14 engaged in a women's only intro to mountaineering course. Their lead
guide is a Sherpa from Nepal who has climbed everest a number of times. We also seem to share the hut with a family
of goats who spend their nights underneath the structure.
